Why are these weld marks/holes on the side of my Ron Davis radiator?

Just wondering if anyone here knew the answer since ron davis is closed until the 5th. (Part Number 11-37BA7073) There are two on each side about the size of a dime...

Hey John,
My guess would be a roset weld to hold something on the inside that they can't weld or position until it goes together. Or it's just the way they assemble that particular radiator.

I don't know what those are for. My RD radiator is built a bit different and the mounting brackets cover that area of the tanks up.

Are you running an auto trans?

For the price of that thing I would not expect to see that.

Looks like bad quality to me.

My Northern does not have that.

No, 6-speed manual.

Just looks like reinforcement for your mounting brackets that also support your fans.

i take it you havent actually seen a ron davis radiator... the quality of these things is unrivaled (i have 2 and compared to my past ones, be-cool, afco and griffin its just plain a different league) just look at thw welds at the end of the tanks... they even cut the aluminum so the bends they put in later will be perpendicular to the grain in the material to avoid cracks, twice as much production waste, but a better product...

my bet is that the welds are there to support, it would seem that the plate that has the two roset welds in it in the picture is sanwiched on to the element to add extra strength (it is the part that mounts the rad. to the coresupport) instead of just hanging the radiator by tabs welded onto the element.. and having to mount the fanshroud dirrectly on the element.. and since its only welded in the ends where the element meets the tank.. the two welds are most likely there to keep it tight to the element ...

I agree they make top notch stuff. Sold them and all the rest when I worked in the speed shop.
I just do not expect to see something like that where its visible under the hood. I expect allot more from them.

Send me some more pix of the rad you got... I'm still researching which one I want...RD is my first choice, so I'm curious on the overall look and fit of the one you got....
