I am a huge fan. My brother writes and photographs for Racer X, Transworld, and Dirt Rider. So I keep on it. Should be a good time!

David Pingree is managing the TLD team and posts about it on the Racer-X site. A really funny read.

Yeah Ping has his hands full, that cool.

ItDoRun 01-03-2009 04:37 PM

My vote is on Stewart. That guy is amazingly fast!

I'd love to see Wyndham on top, but I think age is finally catching up with him.

skooli 01-03-2009 05:27 PM

It's gonna be weird with Bubba on a Yamaha, Reed on a Suzuki, and Villapoto on a 450. Villapoto might have a little something for Bubba. We'll know in a couple of hours.

XcYZ 01-03-2009 07:32 PM

Dungey! :woot:

Spiffav8 01-04-2009 03:06 AM

Well none of us thought that would happen. Turned out to be one heck of a race! :unibrow:

Nvrenuf 01-04-2009 06:02 AM

May be an interesting year! I hope so. I was worried it would be boring and just dominated by Bubba. We shall see. Makes me wish I could get out and ride right now:yes:

No, Rodney Webb is his name. Writes a lot of free lance stuff for a bunch of motorcycle mags. It is a lot of fun riding his coat tails as his 'helper' on his media pass.

I will try post up a couple of shots that he took or links to some of the articles. He has a great shot of Ricky with his Fox gear riding down and butt crack showing. Fox loved that shot....I think it still got published in the back of Racer-X with a bunch of hiney jokes....

Spiffav8 01-04-2009 02:42 PM

What do you guys think about James getting hit from behind by Chad? Other than it sucked...lol. When Erin caught up to James it was obvious that he was mad. Not sure if it was over the bike not starting or the contact between the riders, but it looked like he used a few four lettered words before the camera cut away. Chad looked a little nervous on the box and unusually humble. Kind of made me wonder.

One things for sure....PHX is going to be one heck of a race!

Yeah I'm not too sure what happened there but that sucked. I was lookin for a good battle up until that happened. Ya know, when chad passed stewey it reminded me of when stewey let chad pass him one time (back when they where running 125's) gave him some rope and then dropped the hammer and blew by him just to prove a point. Chad was sooo pissed. It definatley was a surprise to see chad charging like he was. I hope they change it up some and maybe Villi will be in the mix as well:thumbsup:

jonny51 01-04-2009 06:10 PM

Im not a fan of Reed but that was James fault. He looked like he hesitated coming out of that corner.I guess he isn't to happy with his bike.

XcYZ 01-04-2009 07:44 PM

I agree, something happened to Stewart's bike. And Windham got screwed.

It looked like Bubba told his dad "He hit me" and he seemed to think Chad took him out. After watching it another 500 times, it does look like it was Bubba's fault. He didn't look comfortable on that Yamaha, and he was making mistakes on it all night. He even said in the interview after the 1st heat race that they had a lot to work on with it.
The bigger question to me is what about Jason Lawrence? Cutting track? I think the AMA docked him a position. Given his track record, I would have suspended him.

JLAw was only docked the one spot because the AMA decided it was inadvertent.I think they made the right call but JLaw is a clown.:captain:

Spiffav8 01-05-2009 02:46 AM

I think James spun the rear tire and lost traction. That caused the hesitation and Chad who was probably expecting James to be rocketing away, twisted the throttle to the max. I too doubt that the YZF James is on is actually up to his speed. That could be kind of dangerous for him with some of the stunts he pulls off. Not having the fuel injection alone is going to hold him back a bit. Especially if he stalls the bike. :_paranoid

J-law is a joker but dang that kids fast! I think he decision was actually a safe one. With all the momentum he had it carried him to far across the track and he would have had to make a 270 to get back on the right line. Docking him one position seems fair to me.

XcYZ 01-05-2009 05:32 AM

I think Emig is totally in love with JLaw and wants to have his baby.

Yeah it sure seems like Bubba had to work that bike. His corner speed looked slow compared to Reeds and he just didn't look comfortable to me. It will be interesting to see what he has to say this weekend in Phoenix. If they get that bike squared away he will have something to prove I'm sure.
Drop the hammer!!!!!!!

I think this is from McGrath old Steel Roots video... He may not be the craziest but he sure is smooth....

JamesJ 01-06-2009 11:31 AM

My personal fave is on one of the old videos when McGrath and Metzger are riding and they do the huge step up, Metzger calls McGrath out, funny.... I have been looking for the clip but cant find it...

The one where Metzger says, "5th gear tapped, you can't lose" ? That was a HUGE step up. I have that video in the VHS archive somewhere.

I actually went riding where that step up was.It was an illegal spot called Cotton Wood in Murietta. It was all beat up but it was pretty unreal how big it was.

Funny you say that because that huge step up is in Steel Roots. There is actually two step ups in that same part of the video. Those two jumps were about 100 yards apart and both were pretty huge.

3SuperSports 01-06-2009 05:32 PM

I guess I missed the first race. Are they on Speed now?

I'm still pissed about them trying to kill off the two strokes.

I am with you on the two stroke deal. They just sound so kick ass and they are fun as hell.

Yeah the races started last saturday but check out this weekends race on speed. It should be a war between Reedy & Bubbles!!

JamesJ 01-06-2009 06:34 PM

Thats the one! He says "McGrath said he would not do it so.... 5th gear tapped, cant loose" I love it.... I was into dirt bikes alot back then and we would watch those videos and go ride.....

He got hurt really bad (his back I think). Now he builds Hot Rods with his dad in Apple Valley, Ca. I saw something about it on Fuel TV. Yeah Cinq was definitely one of the originals. I remember the LBZ Chrome videos around '97 or '98 when he was just starting to blow up, then things got crazy with him and Seth Enslow jumping his house and tour busses and whatever else they could put a ramp in front of.

XcYZ 01-07-2009 05:33 AM

That's really cool that he's into cars.

coolwelder62 01-07-2009 04:25 PM

Stewart needs to learn how to race

That crash was all bubba. When he came out of the corner he moved over to block chad and did not have the corner speed that chad had. Until james learns he has 20 laps to get out front. He will always be in the middle of these crashes. Thats why he never had much sucess against RC. He needs to learns a win is the same weather he does it from the first lap or the last last lap it still a win. He thinks he has to win by a huge margin.Thats been his problem his whole career. You dont have to win every race to win the champion ship. Just run up front every night which he can do.

Yeah I agree Bubbles can get the best of himself but what really does it for me is his incredible speed. Riding on the ragged edge when he dont really have to. Hes kinda always been the type of rider that just kills it for twenty laps and sometimes he just over kills it. lol
Last years season opener was awesome just because of the fact he went down in the first turn pileup, was dead last and killed it for twenty laps and wound up in second.
I hope some of these other guys step it up and run hard, I just wanna see some good battles not one dude just dominating every week.
