just another 2nd gen, MI71
10 Attachment(s)
Well it seems that second gen's are hot. My name is Jon and the name of my shop is Metal Innovations. I am building this 71 camaro for a customer, he really likes the pro touring look so that's what were going to give him. The plans for the car are DSE Q-link in rear and a heidt's front clip, the car will have an LS motor and a six speed, Wilwood 13" brakes alll around and either 18"front 20" rear or 19"front 20"rear wheels and tires. We will be changing some things around on the body like bumpers and the nose and the rear tailight panel. Here are some pictures and I will update often.

Nice Project. Don't toss those Torque twisters, the might be worth something someday. I always wanted a set of those back in high school, but never had enough money.
|
Wow, now that's a project. Keep us up to speed, please.
|
Great looking project you have going there !! Nice work on the firewall smoothing too............ One tip though, if you can talk the customer down from the ledge on the wheel size to maybe 18's max, you'll be doing him a favor.......... More pics on the progress too, this should be one sweet 71' !!

Ok, We are making a few little changes. We will be running the DSE front subframe instead of the Heidt's. We will be running 18"x10" and 18"x12" wheels and tires. Also in the works is one of the new motors from world products, it's a small block ls hybrid. Thanks, Jon.

Jon, great to see you post this project! It's gonna be killer!

Thanks Ben, I got alot of ideas for this car so once it gets a little farther along I will give you a call. I am still up in the air about wheels. Thanks, Jon.

Well we are starting back up on this project. I moved my shop and it took a little longer than I expected. We got the 1/4's and door skins all mocked up and now we just have to finish the mini tubs and the quadra link. There is going to be alot of work in the rear of this car, we will be changing alot but it will still have the same overall look of a stock tailpanel. once the rear is complete we will hang the dse front clip and hopefully it will be a roller sooner than later. Thanks, Jon.

I love the firewall on this car.
Car looking really good |

I'm building something very similar and would be very interested in any trouble or solutions you guys come up with.As a new member I don't know anyone on here so I am really to see someone doing a second gen pro-tourer.I love the concept you came up with as overall it is very ,very similar to my own.I even agree about the 18" wheels as i feel any thing over is overkill and these cars need an 18" wheel to fill the wheelwells and to get the proportions right. My project outline (not quite complete) is on my intro in the new members introductions.Nice to see I'm not alone in my equation of cool.

Thanks for the comments. I will have lots of pics. in a week or two. The motor and tranny should be here next week. I will have the car on the ground with most of the major metal work done. I did a lot of work to the floor to get the exhaust up out of the way and it still looks somewhat stock. We picked a color and sprayed a sample(looks real good). We are going for kind of a factory look with everything. nothing will stand out to much. Very simple and clean. Thanks, Jon S.
Tones2ss, I am the Jon that you met at Petes shop Ja Your mustang is pretty sick, I really like what the ring brothers can do to a car. Rolling sculpture. If you could ask them to make some 2nd gen door handles that would be great:thumbsup: |
