I've been waiting for side by side pics for a while. It's a nice car but your car looks so much tougher. It really reminds me of the trans am cars from back in the day.

well...the reason the 69 doesnt look as mean as the new one is because its not a 68:lol:
|
Location???
Hey rogue...... are you in Santa Barbara?

I used to think the new car looked kinda good...Until I see your badass parked next to one!
2010 Camaro = swing and a miss |
Very cool! I see MI plates. Was he from GM? Driver have a backstory?

Yeah, those "new" Camaros do not do anything for me.
The '69 looks 10x meaner and nicer in my opinion.  |

By the looks of it the new Camaros may use a Macpherson strut suspension...that would be dissapointing. |

Not digging it at all and now the interior sucks as well. All the cool features of the concept cars are gone in the production car.
|
I built my '69 firebird for the sole purpose to be able to choose which one I wanted when the new one came out. I'm glad I did, because I'll be keeping it.
The new one looks nice. I'd like to see one lowered with the right rims, a few custom touches, exhaust, headers, cam, etc. and it could be a winner, but so far I find it boring...so I'll wait until I see one done the way I'd want to build it and go from there. |
Overall I like the look, but where GM missed is by making it too much of a niche vehicle. I just can't see too many people being able to live with a car like that as their own car on a daily basis. I just saw one at the auto show and looking at the interior, there is zero leg room for the back seats, and ontop of that the opening for the trunk is so tiny. I'm guessing you'd be able to fit a carry on piece of luggage thru the hole at best. I don't see you being able to fit say a cooler, or something like golf clubs in it at all. From that standpoint the 4th gens made for a more legit daily driven vehicle.
IMO the car almost becomes a slightly bigger/expensive Solstice/Skyy. Not sure in this economy people have that kinda of coin to finance a toy. It's too bad IMO. It's definetly got potential. |

Man its just like looking in a mirror:_paranoid ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Once again the GENERAL drops the ball. A Mustang looks like a 60's and 70's Mustang ,the Challenger, well looks like a 70 Challenger. The minute they released the Challenger someone should of sent the design team back to the drawing board ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can anyone look at these pictures and say these cars even closely resemble a 67,68 or a 69 Camaro. Am I mistaken is this not what GM was going for? Man something got lost in translation here... Sorry guys this is just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions:yes:

I'd say they met their goal regardless if you care for it or not. And if you think the new challenger is a closer representation than the original than the new camaro is to a 69, I suggest you take another look. http://the-grayline.com/wp-content/u...nger-425-4.jpg is that an SUV or a "muscle car"? These modern interpretations of muscle cars are just that, interpretations. Lots of people may not like it in these photos, but I promise you, within a month of people getting their hands on them, you're going to love the new camaro and change your tune... Wheels, a drop, some minor changes, they're going to be BADASS. |
I will admit that the new Camaro is not going to be mistaken for a '69, but lets face it nobody is REALLY going to mistake the new Mustangs or Challengers for their classic counterparts. Granted the 5Gen is a further departure from what it was inspired by, but it was meant to be. IMO the new Camaro's styling is better than the two other current Pony cars. Now the trunk opening is pretty small and the rear leg room is almost nonexsistant, but it is a sports car and compare it to the others of it's kind they aren't much (if any) better. If I want trunk space and rear leg room I am going to go buy a G8. Same chassis. Anyway, I like it.
Regardless it is a Camaro and it just wants to be your friend: http://www.edmunds.com/media/reviews.../die.1.500.jpg David |

thanks for posting the pictures. the 69 looks great
|
But you can still tell the challenger reminds you of a challenger, same with mustang. But the new camaro just doesn't look really like a camaro except for the nose, kinda.
It's a cool car but the interior is HORRIBLE. |
Thanks for posting pic. The side by side's are cool. Plus you got a nice car too!
I agree it does not resemble the 67, 68 and 69 and much as the other "retro" cars (Mustang and Challenger), but a lot of the general public won't have a "photographic" memory of what the originals look like. Most of the people who buy it will just want a Camaro and have no desire to resto-mod an original. I like the new Challenger, but I think it stands too "tall" in it's stock form. I think the new Camaro once its lowered will look bad a$$! The car already has the right body lines IMO. Oh hell, I am just happy GM brought back the Camaro after all these years lol! (now if they can keep the company from going bankrupt ...) |
I think the new camaro is badass interior is sweet as well and very retro
|
Just for informational sakes I found these pics on a "Garage" site I hang out on.

This is what GM should come out with IMO. |
Thanks for posting the pics. I am sorry there is such a negative vibe here. I really like the new car. I think it will be a hit. Especially when you start personalizing the car with aftermarket parts.
|
I am already brainstorming with what I could do with one of these salvaged camaros. Brembo brakes, LS motor/ trans, seats!
|
I like it. I'm looking forward to when it hits the streets and people start having fun with them (wheels, stance, etc).
Fortunately, the Camaro has character again. It's nothing like that vanilla bar of soap that is the 4th Gen. And I agree, the new Challenger is an SUV. Man that thing is huge. |
I was cruising through Detroit two weeks ago and seen a sweet new yellow Camaro, kinda cool to see one on the road in person.
The Clallenger would look sweet with a set of Super Swampers on it:unibrow: j/k |

The General didn't do too bad though, there are over 11,000 pre-orders. They can't even fill them for this year's pre-September model run, so they didn't do too bad. The one thing nobody can refute is that we have muscle car wars again between GM, Ford and Chrysler. Camaro vs Mustang vs Challenger. 400+ hp available from the factory. It would be great if they started up a Trans Am series with these again. Also, there are drag versions of each available - sure beats a ricer... Opinion only. :willy: |
Inspired by....they are the key words for me.
We don't want them to be the same (even close) to 1st Gens. If they did that then our cars would all become "common" (ie modernised 1st Gens). We love to take a 1st Gen and bring it into this century but still hail to it's root of muscle car mayhem ! I like that the 5th Gens are close but different. I love em. Interior yeah, could be better, but hey no one is perfect, the perfect car would set you back way more than a 5th Gen. can't wait to get my hands on one |
I'd be pissed to have spent 8+ years restoring and modifying my classic car, only to have clones of it show up everywhere... I'm glad they're not a '69 replica, that keeps the real '69s special. :)
Mustang & Challenger have painted themselves into a corner on styling... where can they go from there??? 2012 Mustang II? |
Quote:
I'm also glad that they aren't an exact replica. I love the look and let me be the first to say, check back this time next year and I bet the haters will have a change of heart... |
