So it goes,...

Got laid off from work today. This really bites as work is scarce and things in general, are not looking that good. All this a day after I write about how much a 69 Camaro build will be on lateral-g.net. I thought my company was done with lay-offs. It started off as a 20% pay cut all the way down the line about 2 months ago, then a 10 person lay-off, then we went to a 10% pay cut, and as of today, I am out of a job.
If any good comes out of it, I will try my hardest to have "un-enjoyment" pay for me to go to school for automotive repair while collecting. Hopefully this works out. Not looking for sympathy here, just looking to vent. GGGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Welcome to the club brother!

Sorry to hear it man, I've been layed off for almost 2 months now, no chance to go back either.I'm out there looking at lot of options but not much out there so for me it's looking like back to school and a career change.I worked in a hole and everytime I drive past I'm glad I'm not there, the way I look at it as it's a chance to move onto bigger and better things.

tones2SS 03-13-2009 04:25 PM

That's the way I feel about it.:(
I didn't work in a bad environment, it's just the economy sucks and things are looking down. The only good news is, the owners said as soon as things pick up, they are going to call me to "re-hire" me.
I am DEFINITELY looking to go to school for automotive repair though, if unemployment will pay for it.

Spiffav8 03-13-2009 07:34 PM

It's been 5 months for me. Money is tight and I had to sell my Camaro, but still conceding everything that's happening (or not happening) life is good.

Stay positive. There's always someone that has it worse.

Sucks to hear......I wouldn't know what to do :faint:

Sorry to here that you guys lost your jobs, but hang in there. Things will get better, but it will take some time.Im 53 and retired due to a heart attack and stroke so things could always be worse. I was an industrial maintenance mechanic at a large brick refractory and was getting laid-off every once in a while till the company was closed by the new owners and the economy went to hell in a handbasket. So you couldnt plan on doing anything, for fearof being laid-off. Im glad Im out of the rat race. Hang in there though, things will get better. God bless you and your families.

Sorry to hear you guy are laid off. I went through it last year . My friends wife is using unemployment to pay for her schooling, its a pretty good deal . you have to sign a contract with them . I think it can last a couple of years. definetly check into it.

I got the axe a couple of weeks ago... had a few interviews, nothing yet though.

Keep your heads up, as they say, this too shall pass.

Shiny Side Up!
Bill

Yeah, thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words.
I know it could be worse and there are people out there that have way worse than myself. Like I feel, everything happens for a reason. So, I'll be looking to go to school for automotive repair, if unemployment will cover it.
Take care guys!!!:lateral:

Hang in there pal. It sucks. My company has been cutting & slashing for over a year now. Almost to the point I think the light I'm seeing is more likely daylight then a train.

Damn, I probably just jinxed it.

I work in the automotive biz and everyday, another employee or two is gone...these are people that have been with the company for 6-8 year...or longer.Right now,if you're costing them money, your expendable.

Hang in there man...you are not alone.

Thanks guys!! I am holding my head up.
I am the only one in that department that has the health insurance through the company. The other guys have health insurance through their spouses' work, in other words, I'm costing them more money than the other guys.
Management said it was all due to the "dollars & cents". They said they will rehire me as soon as it gets busy again. Until then, I am looking to go to school for automotive repair hopefully.
By the way, your cars are AWESOME musclecarjohn!!:lateral:

You could always join the military depending upon your age.I hear there looking for people:lol: but seriously I'm in the navy economy never effects us.

3SuperSports 03-14-2009 06:22 PM

Sorry to hear that.
Good luck with school and/or your rehire.

caper150 03-15-2009 09:45 AM

I'm lucky and unlucky I guess, my unemployment is the same as I was bringing home after deductions, the bad part is that I was the holder of our health insurance and my wifes job doesn't offer it.My local wokforce center has a program called the dislocated worker program, which will allow me to go back to school for the program I want, problem is the classes don't start till Sept. cause I got layed off after the semester started and it's not offered during the summer.Since I lost my job due to no fault of my own I qualified, so now it's just waiting and looking for something to keep me going.

deuce_454 03-15-2009 10:16 AM

look into a stable career, midwife or mortician.... despite economic downfalls, people still do atleast 2 things anyway

Actually Anthony, now that I have "all the time in the world", so to speak, I'm going to ask Pete if I can stop by and check out the work/progress on KARMA & ORANGE KRATE.
Can't wait for both these cars to be completed. :lateral:
