BMR's new Watts Link for 1st Gen Camaro
Anybody have any opinions on BMR's new Watts Link for the 1st Gen Camaro? It's installation is photo-documented fairly well by www.superchevy.com here:
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...all/index.html As is normal with a lot of TV shows and magazine articles, they left me puzzled with part of the implementation. They mention the following: "The first order of business was to get the exhaust system out of the way. The tailpipe on the exhaust will need to be modified so it doesn't interfere with the Watt's link." Well, they never ended up 'modifying the tailpipes' in the article, and I'm guessing there's a good reason for that. I'm looking at the final install photos: http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...m_install.html Anybody have any ideas how you're suppose to route tailpipes through that? It's interesting that in their final notes about 'all that's left to do after the install' that they don't bother to mention putting the tail pipes back on. -Chris https://lateral-g.net/members/robinson/ |
It doesn't look all that good. It might work well, but it looks awful
|
Agreed. It's a bit of a mess under there. Maybe because it's red and it really stands out. If they did a black powder-coat, it might not look so bad.
|
Maybe I missed it... but how do you set pinion angle with that setup?

I'd like to see how tail pipes are routed, and I'm sure if you ordered it in black would look 100x better

We shoot all of our magazine articles with red product. The black hammertone parts blend in with the undercarriage too much and then it's very difficult to see any detail. |
Really intresting new product. A lot less work than with other Watt link systems.

It's possible to get a dual 3" exhaust through there. We installed 2-1/2" exhaust on our shop car and there was enough room for 3" pipes. |

Wow, so you were able to get tailpipes through there. Excellent. Any chance you have some photos of that? How much vertical travel is possible in the rear axle before it bumps a tailpipe? I've been researching panhard rods/Watts link setups and your implementation is definitely intriguing.

BMR Fabrication is not a sponsor yet on Lateral-g, so I don't want to post prices out of respect for the other sponsors. Feel free to call Lee at 813-986-9302 for pricing and tech questions. Also, the May issue of Chevy High Performance has a 2 page spread (pp 64-65) in their new products section that contains tech info and pricing on the 2 different versions.
We will start accepting orders on March 30th. I would expect the product to be ready to ship by April 13th. The Torque Arm Suspension (TAC002) for a 9" Ford differential includes a rear axle housing. There are brackets and plates that get welded to the housing. BMR welds these components to the housing, so it makes sense to include the housing with the kit. It is a Strange housing with a backbrace, fill plug, and drain plug. It can be ordered in any width. The Torque Arm Suspension (TAC001) for a 12-bolt GM differential does not include the rear axle housing. The kit includes a thick plate that mounts between the differential and the diff cover. There is no welding required. The stock GM differential can be used with this suspension kit. |

Lee is BMR Tech. This is Al. Yes, we are going to do something for the 2nd Gens. The design is just about done. We are designing the Transmission Conversion Crossmembers right now. We are using a '70 Camaro for the design. Send Lee some pics of your 2nd Gen and we'll put them in our image database. |

As for your question about the compatibility with mini-tubs, our shock cross-member fits fine. Our main test car has mini-tubs with 335/30R20" tires and there were no issues with this setup. |
