G link Install, Super cool stuff, Lots of pics

We had a chance to install the new G link is Louis Barraza's badd ass 68 Camaro we painted last month. We used a 12 bolt rear and did the weld on brakcets on this car. Turned out fantastic, I am VERY impressed. the stuff came very well packaged, fit perfect, and looks amazing. I have not been able to drive the car yet. This is a on going project. But knowing what the original G Bar system is capable off, add the adjustability of the G Link, and the extra beef in the complete system. And it is a no brainer this will be even better then the original G bar.

I will have a G link installed in my own car very soon and will be able to do driving impression and track testing. If I ever get time to work on my own stuff.

A pair of brackets weld to the inner frame rails, pretty basic welding here in a solid easy to weld area. They also self locate pretty well, so it is almost impossible to screw them up.

A bolt in crossmember ties the to brackets together

Another angle, Looks killer

The shocks can be mounting in multiple vertical positions to adjust ride height. Additional ride height adjustment can be made buy running the coil spring up and down the shock. Multiple spring rates are available to suit your individual needs.

The upper shock has 3 horizontal positions to change the shock angle.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/DSC_0522.jpg

Here you can see the loower bar has 4 vertical positions, the upper bar has 2 positions for instant center changes. Really cool stuff.

Look at the size of that lower bar! Really beefy! The Offset bushing moves the lower bar inboard on mini tub cars for excellent tire to lower bar clearance. Weld on brackets, or a ready made Fab 9 housing are required for offset bar mini tub aplication. NON mini tub cars can use the original mono or multi leaf mounts, or can use weld on brackets or a ready made Fab 9 housing

No much to say but WOW!

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...s/DSC_0549.jpg

Just WOW!

Looks awesome, I have a 68 and getting ready for the rear suspension. How much is the kit going for?

Bowtieracing 04-02-2009 08:47 AM

Frank ,

The original G-bar , is it allso okay with minitubs ??

ProdigyCustoms 04-02-2009 08:48 AM

There are various options, but this kit was right at $2250 and included the weld jig. A couple options can run the cost up and down a few pennies. the uretahne kit is only $1800 and change.

Swain 04-02-2009 11:19 AM

It looks nice but just seems kinda of expensive for what it is. Is there a rear sway bar?

All the good 4 links that actually work are going to be in the high teens to lows 2s. The Base G bar, $1839, Prodigy Bar, $2100, G Link $2139, DSE $2195.

Swain 04-02-2009 01:09 PM

Soon as I get all the sheet metal back on my car I will have to send you a PM and get something ordered up. Thanks Frank for the Info.

Looks killer, Frank! Thanks for posting the photos. When can we expect to see it at ride height? How much more ride height adjustment is left in it?

ProdigyCustoms 04-02-2009 08:14 PM

It has no weight in it right now. Except for the glass it is a bare shell, so it will settle quite a bit. It has a good couple inches left in it anyway.

John510 04-02-2009 08:37 PM

COOOL!

These things are def worth the money. I got mine yesterday and the craftmanship is awesome!!!! I hope to have it in soon.

Weldon0405 04-03-2009 06:37 AM

Looks awesome! I can't wait to be able to check out this setup for myself. :D

Steve68 04-03-2009 09:19 AM

HMMMMM, caught my interest, saving now for a kit tomorrow!

I'll be installing mine soon. Come by and see it first hand if you're in the area.

ProdigyCustoms 04-04-2009 03:16 AM

ItDoRun, I was just up there droping a project and picking up 2 more projects. I have 2 projects to deliver in a few weeks, one to Dothan, Ala and New Orleans, then swing up to Vicksburg to grab a couple more projects for the shop. I might have to swing by and check up on you! How close to Biloxi are you? I will have to stop by there on the way home.

syborg tt 04-04-2009 05:28 AM

Looks like a really nice kit Frank.

I know people have been asking what i am about to ask. What is the actually ride height ?

Is it possible to set the car up at 6.00" from the pinch weld ?

It doesn't look possible :(

ProdigyCustoms 04-04-2009 09:49 AM

No suspension system that uses stock rear frame rails is going to ride that low without being on the stops. EmptyNest is probably one of the lowest stock frame rail ride height cars around, and even with extended rockers is over 6" rocker to ground measurement.

So it is not a given suspension that limits ride height. This kit has enough adjustment to ride on the stops, but you would not want to do that

Frank,
I'm actually about an hour and a half west of New Orleans (in Baton Rouge), but it's all interstate and a pretty easy drive. If you've got some time to kill, let me know. You're more than happy to swing by. I need to talk about front suspension with you anyway. Plus, it would definitely be nice to meet you in person and put a face with a name.

Chris

I'll probably get to the BR area for a weekend within the next month. I'll let you know when I'll be in town.

Thanks Frank - looks like i'm going to be cutting the next one up a little more then i planned.

ibdmann 04-10-2009 04:35 AM

for a 69 camaro thats mini tubbed it's written that you need the weld on brackets with off-set bushings to bring the lower bar in-board. Are the brackets welded inboard of where the original leaf spring perch's were located on a 69 camaro. Anything you can add would be appreciated
thanks

ProdigyCustoms 04-10-2009 07:07 AM

Because the lower link bar is so fat. If you are doing a mini tub car you have to use the weld on brackets and offset bushings specified in your kit order. We did th weld on brackets on Louis car. These brackets eliminate the leaf spring perches and moves the bars in for tire clearance.

crazycarl 04-10-2009 02:26 PM

That's sweet.

ViperBlue68 04-14-2009 11:57 PM

 looks realy good! what size wheel and tire is on the back?

ProdigyCustoms 04-15-2009 06:02 AM

Those are 335 / 30 / 18s.

ItDoRun 04-16-2009 01:53 PM

Those 335's are tight under there!

ProdigyCustoms 04-16-2009 02:04 PM

Plenty of room. Were dialed in on all the measurments. Remeber we have 335s under MotiV8tr also

Swain 04-16-2009 03:53 PM

Frank

Do you have anymore pics of the car like side shots rear shot etc?

tabragg 05-11-2009 01:53 PM

this car is not mini tubed right?

ProdigyCustoms 05-11-2009 02:20 PM

This car IS mini tub and has the offset arms option for mini tub

tabragg 05-13-2009 02:53 AM

thanks . you guys do killer work. i wish pc had a reality show . it would get top ratings.

AJSZR2326 05-13-2009 08:18 AM

when you jack up one side of the car up what does the other side do (rear only) i only ask becasue my g-bar rear suspension has already tore the upper link bushing. i got rid of the u bolts and welded everything now. i guess i dont like the fact you cant upgrade to their new stuff(c/w).also for 2yrs i've done nothing but constantly adjust things in the back to get suspension dialed in correctly.springs/shocks/ moving the brackets, ect.maybe there's too much adjustability.

Vegas69 05-13-2009 08:30 AM

Tore my upper bushing in my first autocross as well. Frank has some upgraded end links he uses on the Prodigy bar that you might as well buy.

Steve1968LS2 05-13-2009 08:31 AM

Thanks for the pictures.. I have a g-bar ready to go into the Track Rat project.

That car won't be mini-tubbed and I will weld the brackets in place. I also ordered the housing with the brackets already welded in place, that was a BIG time saver.

AJSZR2326 05-13-2009 08:38 AM

thx i sent him a pm

Thats good to know, How do you overall rate the G bar? Should I go DSE

Vegas69 05-13-2009 12:23 PM

I have the old G Bar with the air ride bushings not the new G Link. Happy with the ride and handling so far. The bushings aren't made for performance. Two of us just in this thread with torn bushings. I'm upgrading my links currently to the kevlar/teflon race style. You can't go wrong with DSE ever, and the new G link looks good to since they offer teh sway bar and upgraded bushings now.
