LVSCCA Autocross at the Bullring

Went out and ran my first Autocross today. What a blast!!!! It was a very well run show. The course was fast and large. Only 50 cars showed up and I got 11 runs. Could have stayed and ran a few more times. I would recommend it to anyone local.

The car was great. I ended up shaving about 3.5 seconds off from my first to 11th run. My style is officially, out of control down the straights:D and smooth through the corners. I ended up running a best of 45.3 which is 5 seconds off the best time by the local champ in his zr1 with r compound. I was only 3 seconds off another zr1 with r compounds. That put me with some of the better miatas. The only issues I had was once I stiffened the car up I had a light rub on one end. (not sure which) and brake pad knock back like Steve has discussed on Penny. My first run I didn't have the tilt locked in and the steering wheel lurched up. I'm hooked, so I'll be buying a spare set of wheels and r compound. My biggest problem was the slalom portion. I was way to wide to start and kept cutting it closer and closer. I was to worried about dinging up my paint job. I did get a video of my fastest and second fastest run. The fast run turned out to blurry. Wish I had a better video camera. This one was a 45.5:

There is another Autocross in 2 weeks at the bull ring. I just figured you read my thread and had something going on.

Very Nice!

Was that just blue paint tape on your car for paint protection? How'd that work for you?

2 weeks lame will be gone by then. Very cool Todd

I don't know, I haven't peeled it off yet. :_paranoid I didn't see any tears in the tape. Thinking clear bra in those areas since I plan to run a ton of autocross and going to R compound.

Rupp used that clear film and from what I've heard he's happy with it. I think it's a 3M product.

The clear film has one drawback for cone protection... cone rash is Really hard to get off the film compared to paint. It's probably still cheap insurance or protection but if my motivation for the investment was specifically for the autocross, I would look at the "more economical" side of the equation knowing that I would probably need to replace it in the future. Or I would put it on in smaller, servicable sections.

Just an idea.

Way to go!

Vegas69, glad to see another car autocrossing regularly, and by the sounds of it throwing down some great times! Keep it up and keep us informed on the upcoming events and results!

Good luck,
Paul

Looks like a blast man! And apparently you're not as bad of a driver as I had thought!

In car video is where it's at.

Vegas69 04-28-2009 12:46 AM

Geez...maybe I am LOL I'll make sure I have every mechanical advanatage known to man.:D Thanks for the input James. I may continue to tape it since I don't plan to run R compound on the street right now atleast.
