The market for '69 Camaros can't be this bad?

I just started looking at '69's so I'm not real familiar with prices but this seems low.

Am I right?

Seems too good to be true. That car doesn't look like it's dropped 3~3.5 inches as advertised.

ProdigyCustoms 05-15-2009 04:15 AM

I think they are priced right. A 350 small block, TH350 car with some wheels and a Covans dash, $25K seems on the money to me. Nothing mentions show winning paint, crisp new restoration, so one can assume it is a 5 to 10 footer. Sounds right to me. Same for the clone car, $25k for a SS350 clone with "paint in great shape" is ok.

I have a RS / SS Big Block car with a 4 speed. Mild PT treatment with Vintage Air, TT2s, Wilwoods, Hotchkis, 18" wheels, etc with KILLER paint coming in and it will be for sale for only $40K. Surely it is worth $15K more then either of them.

What we are seeing now is healthy prices, not STUPID prices we were seeing. The market has adjusted a bit. Time to start buying again.

Thanks Frank.

Here's that other one you mentioned priced the same.

I was thinking $30K, but it makes sense what you're saying; healthy but not stupid prices.

At the prices you can get these cars for now, it has to of put a hurt on those reproduction bodies.

Why buy a body for $15k, when you can get a whole car for 10k more?

fleetus macmullitz 05-15-2009 07:08 AM

I agree Mark.

Dynocorn has an interesting decision to make it seems.

Wait it out or reduce their prices...

tones2SS 05-15-2009 08:14 AM

I think a lot of it has to do with people hurting for money as well.
Lots of people are without work and need to pay bills, so unfortunately, they have to sell their toys.:(
I think the time to buy is now though.

Flash68 05-15-2009 11:24 AM

Why scams? I seriously doubt that... These cars need to be, and are, coming back to reality prices.... it ain't 2006/2007 anymore with everyone sitting on a couple hundred grand of play money in the form of the home equity ATM....

This is equivalent to the guy who is actually listing his house and pricing it correctly, not wishing it was 2 years ago.

Good time to be a buyer Skip!

fleetus macmullitz 05-15-2009 11:46 AM

Thanks Dave.

I'm also interested in opinions from people here:

Do you think prices on 1st gen Camaros have bottomed out yet?

Vegas69 05-15-2009 11:55 AM

I would watch the auctions on ebay. If they are meeting reserve on a regular basis, then I would say yes. It's not different than the housing market. It really depends on the price range. The really solid project cars won't get any cheaper in my opinion. I paid 14k for a ultra solid complete 307 car in 06 and would gladly shell out the money again today.

fleetus macmullitz 05-15-2009 12:07 PM

Agreed, that was and still is a great price Todd.

That car is up near my parents, I'm pretty sure I know where it is. If anyone want's me to take a drive up to look, let me know. He usually has a bunch of muscle cars but typically prices them high from what I've seen of his inventory.

Both cars seem like good buys Skip. Just always have to worry about what kind of work is under the paint.

I figured you mentioned what's underneath the paint out of personal experience. :D

So I went and read the feature on your car.
What a story.

Congrats on a beautiful car.

Yes exactly, and that also answers why someone would look at a Dynocorn body. (that would assume they actually fit together well... but they don't) A MCC body would be the place to start to save the full restoration 'fixing' money pit.

Yes, but buying a complete or completed car is always cheaper then a nut and bolt restoration. If the bodies are solid I would consider those cars for sure. Hard to tell from tiny pics online.

Thanks Skip on the compliments, it's a never ending project as most of these guys can attest.

monza 05-15-2009 04:05 PM

I agree totally those are nice looking cars but if they are not fully restored now, they'd never really be 'finished'. They forgot step one.

Agreed.

And I see Dave's point also.

Another possibility is rather then someone chase around the country for a solid car, whoever the builder is (if there is one) they of course come across good cars from time to time from people they know.

It's nice to see prices returning to normal. The financial circumstances that have caused this price drop are unfortunate. I happen to have been hit pretty hard by the recession. I had to sell a 1983 Z28 Camaro this winter for a tiny amount of money in order to keep food on the table. Try looking locally for a car. If you really scour the want ads, you'll likely find some great deals. If you're anywhere near upstate NY, try www.wantaddigest.com patience will serve you well.

Thanks Pat for the advice and the link. You're right about patience. I checked out your link.
