Ring Brothers cars at Mecum

The black Mustang (Kona?) is coming up in a few minutes at Mecum. Copper colored one is later in the day.

No sale at $102 and change.

70rs 05-16-2009 12:27 PM

I can't believe that car didn't sell. I missed the run through the block. Any idea what the reserve was set at?
About the only thing I would change on that car is the steering wheel and change the auto trans for a manual. That is one very nice car.

70rs 05-16-2009 01:17 PM

Does anyone here know the 67 camaro "Cherokee"? (red convertible with a "window" in the hood showing the intake system)
If I heard and saw right, it just went through and didn't sell for 600,000!! Did not meet the reserve.
I hope I missed something there, I did only catch it as they were rolling it away.
If it is a 600,000+ car then I'd love to read about it.

And they turned down $180.000.00 for that EVS Camaro ,could you amagine!!!:_paranoid

70rs 05-16-2009 02:21 PM

I missed the EVS Camaro too. I have a garage sale going on as I type this. Trying to watch the auction, checking in here for updates on Tonys car and reading build threads in between. Lateral-G is helping me keep my priorities straight today:rofl:
I hate garage sales. The wife talked me into it. I'd much rather make some dump runs! Maybe if she leaves for a couple hours tomorrow?:_paranoid

the camaro on here with the J2z motor, culture shock

70rs 05-16-2009 04:17 PM

Being a GM design car, I could understand the bids going so high.
The EVS car.....they should have sold it when they could. That kind of money seems pretty hard to come by these days for a odd ball car like that.
Just my thoughts though. I am not the expert in any way.

Thanks for the info Musclerodz.

They didn't sell it for 180k because they didn't have any real bids for 180k. I'm quite certain it was shell bid. No one in their right mind would pay 180k for that abomination.

70rs 05-16-2009 05:46 PM

I know I wouldn't pay 180k for it. Ever. It would be fun to go thrash on for free though!:unibrow:

How is it that "false" bids can even be made? In the auction house I would think it about impossible to do that. On e-bay I can see how it would be easy to get away with. Wouldn't the auction kick them out for doing that?

The other one no saled at $90k.

I have a feeling people run their cars through auctions with ridiculous reserves and not sell them for publicity. That way everyone "knows" their car

Smart observation...that is done more than you might think.

I spent the weekend at the auction. At a reserve auction, quite often the auction house discloses in the paperwork that they can bid on the sellers behalf up to the sellers reserve price. When you see the Cherokee bid to 600K it is most likely just the auction house bidding it up to close to the reserve, hoping a real bidder will decide they need it. When you see a no sale car bid up real high, assume it is just hype and that there was no real money on the car. I love that Cherokee car....

Was that the case with Colin being shown as a bidder on the Daytona coupe? I got the impression that it was for show. You could hear him say to Dana that he was going to have to start charging for TV appearances.

did copperback sell?

I think Colin had a client he was bidding for.
