Anyone watch Street Customs on TLC tonight?

Just wondering if anyone watched that show called "Street Customs" on TLC tonight? They worked on the 58 Nomad for Rusty Wallace. I've been trying to track down the steering wheel they used in that car but haven't had any luck. Anyone know who makes it? Thanks in advance.

thanks for the reminder.

Isn't that the West Coast Customs show?

Do you have a picture of the wheel?

brucel 05-22-2009 08:02 AM

Did anyone notice if the wheels were Boyd Magneatos or Billet Specialities Fuelies?

Yes I watch it.... I dont know why....

Everytime its ..."we have 10 days to build this custom one off car before the reveal.... I dont think we're going to make it"...blah blah blah.....

In the end the cars often look good (depends on the project and your taste), but I highly question the actual quality of the work. Doing the stuff they do in a matter of days and doing it well just doesnt fly......

my guess is that they actually have a lot longer than they say, but for TV purpose it's "10 days"..

That's why so many customers don't understand when you give them a realistic time frame.., What 6 months? But on TV they can do it in 7-10 days LOL

Exactly! Plus if you say the show last night, when Rusty was driving it at the speedway the doors looked like they weren't even close to fitting or closing. It is pretty bad when you can judge gaps on a moving shot at a 3/4 angle. Complete crap in my opinion.

ccracin 05-22-2009 01:35 PM

I know, I know, I still watched it! Call it learning what not to do. :willy:

Thank you. Fitment looked horrible. I hope they fixed it after they filmed the show (if possible).

I have heard from multiple people that they sell those 2 door land rovers for like a millon bucks in the middle east.

That show is more comedy not reality, I learn what not to do for shop management in my shop. They make me think I have it all figured out until I get back to work the next day.

In the past 5 years we have been contacted to take part in 3 different TV shows about cars and I swear the ideas just get worse and worse. But yet the can the Rides show. That show was great.

thats because were all true car nuts and what matter to us on tv shows about cars wouldnt interest you regular joe who just thinks these cars are "cool"
hench why they have to add all the stupid crap like the pranks on overhauling , and always trying to do it fast or always showing the $$$ value.

mazspeed 05-22-2009 07:50 PM

I think that shop is better when it makes rice cars or low rider stuff, and stupid looking stuff. I would not hire then to build a pro touring car of any kind. It's not a performance shop by any means.

CamaroPat 05-22-2009 11:47 PM

Couldn't agree more...

Rides was great! Overhaulin' is just barely a show about cars getting redone. West Coast Customs and Unique Autosport cater to rap stars and basketball players, people who don't know performance or quality, just flash and bling. Boyd Coddington looked like a jerk because of the editing department on American Hot Rod. Pinks was focused on arguing, rather than racing. Lou Santiago, Stacey David and Jesse Combs left Powerblock. Chop Cut Rebuild has been reruns forever. Guess it's time to turn off my TV and go build or break something with an engine myself. :D

CamaroPat 05-23-2009 12:29 AM

Just wanted to clarify...

I wasn't bashing Unique Perormance. I was bashing Unique Autosport, the hacks on Unique Whips.

T-Type 05-24-2009 07:29 PM

i don't know why but i expected a bit more for this 58. the airbrushed moldings were just a bad idea and didn't look good at all. i wonder if rusty wallace was in fact impressed or was just impressed for the show.....

i do have a picture of the steering wheel however i'm having problems uploading it....could i e mail it to someone and perhaps they can add it to the thread?

I agree with you on the shows and we have been contacted every year to do a show and its just not worth it. You can tell alot about the guys by watching just one show. No way would I let anyone that acted like that work on one of my projects. They just dont get it and you know the cars are not what they claim.

elitecustombody 05-25-2009 06:03 PM

it's funny how every car they show building ,they only have 10 days or some BS, if that is the truth, all those cars are halfassed and yet some morons are still want them to build a car. There is a reason why they never show any upclose and detailed shots of the fab work , anyone can polish a turd and make it look good on TV, but it's still somewhat entertaining and funny

Anyone ever notice all "Pimp my Ride" ghettofabulous cars have rattlecan black jambs, regardless of the color scheme?

MaxHarvard 05-25-2009 09:32 PM

Wait... what? I can't build a SEMA show car in a week in my backyard with some buddies and a chop saw?! :willy:

65bomber 06-11-2009 09:12 AM

Hahahaha, and they don't understand that the TV studios have an unlimited budget! Money always talks.
