Project "Full Throttle Facelift"
So the fun begins (again). The Fed Ex driver called and my '71 RS will be here bright and early tomorrow morning! So if you guys have been down this road- you know my pain- I've got to try and sleep tonight:_paranoid
So here is the skinny- The car is a very nice stock car with a ZZ430 and turbo 350. The plan... to take a basically stock but fresh car... it sold at Barrett's last Jan....and give it a mild pro-touring face-lift on the cheap- under 7k This is what I have done so far- a new design Rushforth rim- this will be the first set- with smoked titanium centers. lower it about 10-12"- seriously- this thing sits high I've ordered Baer brakes for all four corners. I want to upgrade seats and suspension- still undecided on brand- any other helpful ideas are welcome. I know the hood is ridiculous- so I am looking into a hood and one piece rear spoiler- but I don't know if I will mess with it yet. let's hear your ideas :D http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g..._Front_3-4.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...2_Rear_3-4.jpg |
Wow Chris! That is a really clean looking Z. I'm looking forward to seeing it in July.
I might have a home for that hood and spoiler if you are dumping them. Maybe the wheels too. As for ideas on the facelift, I think you are on the right track with what you already said. Lower, wheels (can't go wrong with Jason) and different hood & spoiler. Oh yeah, stick a manual trans in it. It is such a nice car already why change anything else? Eric |
Awesome! Sounds like you have a good plan. Maybe you should give Tyler at Anvil a call and see what they have in the way of a Carbon Fiber hood for you. I'm sure whatever you do will be cool!

what about the hotchkis set up they did for their orange second gen?

Xmas in May

Awesome looking car already!!
I would do the wheels/tires like you stated and the lowering of the car. My personal opinion, I kinda like the hood. Gives it some character! lol:unibrow: And the other thing I would do is something with the exhaust tips. I like the dump offs under the rear bumper also, not like pictured. Just an idea. (But, to each his own.) Nice car and keep us updated please! |

FWIW i think that the window trim looks out of place. Maybe paint that black since the windows are tinted. But other than the things already said thats about all i would change.

See that. Great minds think alike!!!  Scary,... huh?!?!?!:_paranoid |

What size Rushforths & tire combo are you going to run? I think 19's and 20's look killer on 2nd Gen's, especially 20x12 rears like on the pics below.

you need some Tubular arms and coil over conversion. :_paranoid

Congrats on the new arrival, Chris!! Do you need some headers? :unibrow:
Are there plans to repaint the car? I only ask because you have mentioned the hood and spoiler swap. Job #1 is that it has to be drivable in July!! |

been checkin out your website--nice stuff!! |

ohh well be talkin headers, i just picked up an LS2 for the next serious build:) |
The hood doesnt look that bad, I did take mine off.( was a 3 inch cowl) Put a stock on on. Looks better In my opinion. If you change your mind on the rear spoiler Id be interested in that. The 19s and 20s are gonna look sick! See if Jason can make some that look like the factory Kelsey-Hayes, now that would look SLICK! With the titanium centers, they would look great. Keep us posted! More pics!

I'm digging the high rear spoiler and cowl hood. Gives it some "character"!!
I say leave it as is. |
Chris, I still have that brand new FLAT hood for you, I can drive it to your house tomorrow............:D
PM sent |
update!!
we'll i finished a customer's car earlier this week, so the attention is FINALLY on this project.
I am lowering the car 3" all the way around, I i picked up some really nice PT leaf springs that were supposed to lower the car- after a whole night in the shop- swapping out springs and getting dirty...i wound up with a car that is only 1/2 lower... I love doing things twice I ended up going with Rushforth Fuels- full polish 18's and 19's - the new design would have taken longer...and its summertime!!! Baer brakes are on order. I've updated the seats and belts to more of a PT style- more pics comming soon!- Chris |
Killer car to begin with! Let's see some more pics! :D
|
Very cool.
Can't wait to see the pics. |
Wow Chris,
Just noticed you picked up another ride. Camaro looks like it was pretty clean already before you tackled into it. Dave |

Chris, the car looks AWESOME!! Can I rent Chaz from you?
The stance looks great and the wheels are a perfect set for the car. What seats are those? That is the same style i want in my car. The interior looks great too! |
Upgrades
How about 200r4 trans. a bolt in overdrive and 17" or 18" minilite style wheels that will give you a 70's trans am flavor.
