Mary P kicking butt and taking names...again!
...at today's Auto-X event at the GG show in Pleasanton,Mary ran and hid from some killer cars to take the top spot with a 36-something to best some prepped Z06's and some killer PT cars on a very tight and slippery course.
Here's a lousy picture of her on course: http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC07013.jpg A big bummer came when the Good Guys giveaway 427 Supernova lost fire on course and with hydroboost brakes,he could only hang on for the ride: http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC06967.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC06966.jpg Drove off under it's own power but clearly wounded: http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC06972.jpg Oh....and Mary's a rockstar look!:willy: :hail:  http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...n/DSC07032.jpg Now how fricking cool is that...?:unibrow: |
congrats Mary!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to call up and get me a couple of t-shirts.. maybe she could autograph them!!! :hail:
lol Mary is generally the best driver at any event like this. It's tough to go up against new cars with stuff like anti-lock brakes. I hope she holds onto her lead.. I heard she's opening a tire store soon.. :) Wish I was there with my car, but we have a ton of work left to do. Where's the video? |
Course was coming apart and getting marbles all over it so I'm guessing her time will hold up...
|
It was a treat watching her drive today, man...can she drive. my 6 yr. old daughter talked about her all day after meeting and talking with her as well...lol

Wow! I showed up after the wreck. Thats horrible. Mary sure was takin it to those guys. Here's a few pics I took (not that great).
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...x/P1010450.jpg This Corvette was FAST. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...x/P1010447.jpg The One Lap Camaro. Extremely nice car! http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...x/P1010453.jpg The Maier Racing Mustang. This one ran pretty well too. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...x/P1010455.jpg Mary was almost too fast... for my camera. |
Mary is the master on that course!
Was a pleasure watching her run today. I hope they keep doing these autoX events at this GG show. |
Way to go Mary!! :woot:

We had a blast. Mary is such a good driver, but eveyone had a good time, except the airride car. That was terrible, the crash. Those guys were great though. We ran 39's and a high 38 on our 260 invo tires (blah). We will be back tomorrow. The red vette was badass. Nothing could touch it. The one lap camaro is really nice. I thought this field was really strong.

Mary...you are one cool chica! |
Mary tearin' it up again. Too cool. Congrats ! :D

What a great event... I spent the whole day at the AutoX :)....took about 45 min at the end of the day to walk the show.
I'll tell ya... I got the AutoX bug again :D My wife and I used to AutoX alot before kids.....allitle after our son was born ( my wife actually Autox at 7 months preg with him :) ).... and then pretty much nothing since our daughter was born almost 3 years ago. I had forgotten how much fun it was and how addictive it can get to see if you can get a better time. Best I could do was a 40.48x driving my 98 Camaro SS on street tires...respectable, but I was hoping to break into the 39's.... I had a blast....great to meet up with some of the guys again too...long time no see.... Its also so fun to see people take their "PT cars" and actually beat on them some...... put all that top dollar suspension, brakes etc etc and actually use them. You cant beat that... I saw alot of "PT cars" that had all the "bells and whistles" just sitting in the show collecting dust... what a shame My only wish was that they had more space to make a bigger course. I hope they post the video to the Air Ride Nova soon... the driver said he had the camera on for that run :) |

[QUOTE=PonchoJohn;215562]Yeah, he was damn fast, BUT he was on slicks. Mary was on DOT tires. She was in the 36.XXX times, and the Vette was 35.XXX. Pretty impressive![/QUOTE
I was just out there to have fun. I was running DOT Kuhmo V710's. Great to see people driving their cars hard, not just looking the part. |
Watching the vette and Mary run the cones was well worth the price of admission!

I have a few vids on my car. https://www.youtube.com/user/no65mph
I wish that chain link fence was not there to kill everyone's view. |
Here's a couple more pics of the auto-x participants:

Way to go Mary!!!
Kicking butt and takin' names. |
CONGRATULATIONS MARY!!!
It's official, Mary won the event with a best time of 36.62  |
Awesome job. Gotta love this pro touring stuff.

It wouldn't have surprised me anyway- as soon as I saw you roll in, I was like "Oh $hit! This guy's a player!" It was a very impressive series of runs. So I'll say it again- damn fast! |
Okay, so is it just me, or is it a toss up between the ragtop Caddy and the lifted Ford SUV for the coolest entertainment runs? The three wheel action from the SUV was priceless!

Too bad I'm on the wrong side of the country for most of these events. I've only seen vide of Mary's driving, but she is a serious hot shoe! Hotchkis couldn't have picked a better spokesperson. Now if only bolting their TVS onto my car could give me her driving skills.

So with that hydroboost brake system, no engine running = no brakes ?
Sounds great. |

*cough* manual brakes rule *cough*
I wish I could have been there, looks like some awesome cars. Tyler |
Exactly....esepecially with a carb.

The buzz at the awards ceremony yesterday was that Mary would now have to drive Clint's Excursion in the autocross to give everyone else a chance.

LOL...lifting the inside wheel!:woot:

Thanks Rodger!! That's the SUV I was talking about.
The funny part is that he REALLY got some air under that tire at the far end of the essess. That was sooooo funny/cool to watch! |

Wow and thanks for the nice words ...
Both Dave and I had a lot of fun meeting everyone that we "talk" to here and on other sites. Cars are terrific conversation pieces and bring out the best in all of us. We got into a serious thrashfest the week before Pleasanton and between us and the Camaro, it looked like the Camaro was winning. Got some issues worked out and all was again right. We've got some wonderful companies working with our car and thankfully it didn't disappoint. Mike Maier, Maier Racing, and I swapped cars and he also liked the Camaro. I was also happy he didn't beat me as he's a damn good driver (SCCA C Prepared National Champion) that knows his way around an autocross course ... I think he got the better end of the deal as he told me just before I took to the course in his '66 Mustang notchback ... "er, Mary ... it pushes like a dump truck." He was right. It did!! Quite well!!! The owners of the cool red 'Vette are good friends of mine and they compete heavily with that car all over Northern California's autocrosses. Yes, the V710 is technically a "slick lite" as it has a smooth surface with two grooves for decoration. It is DOT legal but with a treadwear of 30, not too many purchase these for street use. The Kumho is an awesome autocross tire and also good for track days. The GoodGuys autocross course wasn't the best venue for this car and to really appreciate it, you need to see it on a more open, faster course. I have and combined with Brian's ability (he's also a Solo National Champion), it's pretty cool. He also bought a second gen roller from me about a year or so ago and when that car's completed, it's going to be a serious contender in C Prepared. He also wants to keep it street legal so methinks my days as being top of the GoodGuys Autocross heap are numbered once he gets it done. Let's see ... 3000 or less lbs compared to my car which weighs almost 3,700 lbs. What's good is that no one has told the '73 it weighs that much so it thinks it's a Miata. The major downer was previously mentioned and I saw/heard the Super Nova as it hit the K-wall barrier at the end. After the engine quit, Ty was merely a passenger in a bullet headed for the target as there was minimal run-off room at that end of the course. Thankfully, the damage is pretty minor and sheetmetal can be repaired. It did put a damper on the remainder of the autocross (for me, at least). I tried to accomodate everyone that asked for a ride and just told people to jump in the passenger seat if no one was there. Melanie Rushforth did get the "best" ride and it was my final timed run for the competition. Came around the end, trailbraked into the corner, started rotation, and ended up doing this very cool slideways maneuver all the way around to track out. Kept my foot in it balancing the throttle as doing anything else would have been disaster. It was textbook perfect and I'd be hard pressed to do it again. Came out of the corner and planted the accelerator pedal to get to the next transitional section all the while laughing hysterically ... both of us. Hotchkis were their typically fun selves and those guys are a huge part of making these events fun. It was also great to see John there watching and enjoying his suspensions getting pounded on and thoroughly thrashed. I think the only thing I had to do was check/adjust air pressure and add a little power steering fluid to refill it after I bled it. It's cool to have such a turn-key, uncomplicated car ... Cheers, Mary Pozzi P.S. And I was in the back seat when the Excursion ran ... |
Man... I wish I lived in California, all this travelling is killing me. Thanks as always to David and Mary for their help and time - I couldn't have made the show without them.
The OneLapCamaro has definately improved with the Pozzi's help and it's nice to be able to run without having to spend a lot of time on maintenance at the track or have to be chasing little things here and there. I think that the most difficult mechanical challenge that we had all weekend was trying to pry a cone out of the front wheel well ... We started the weekend in the 39's and finished with a best run of 37.4 with a 1 cone penalty and a 37.7 clean. I was happy enough with that since it put us near enough to the front to be respectable. Here are the first two of four videos that we took on Saturday. I need to figure out a way to flip the other two 180° but will post them when I can. For now... SplitterVision: and: |
