C1-RS '62 Vette built by the Roadster Shop

1962 Corvette "C1-RS" built by the Roadster Shop

This one has been hard to keep under wraps. It is in the final stages of assembly and figured that the Lateral-G crowd would like to get a look at it. This is what we have been up to for the past 9 months.

This is what we started with.... so it shouldn't piss off too many Corvette purists.

This car was also used to design the new Roadster Shop / RS Performance C1 Corvette production chassis that is now available.

Clay mock up, begining to lay out the new rear body line off the wheel opening.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/27.jpg

A little further along in the sculpting process. The stock bumper recesses, tail light holes, and license plate have been filled in fiberglass to completely redesign the rear of the car. The rear corners have been brought out and sharpened for a mroe aggressive look. We have also wrapped the line off the rear wheel opening into a rear spoiler.

Fabricated aluminum rear air difuser that will go under the back of the car. The large hole will later fit a custom exhaust tip.

The completed aluminum panel. The air foils are shaped out of wood to later be duplicated in carbon.

Tracy (Recovery Room) is doing the interior. It is heading out there at the end of the week.

I'll try to get more pics on today. I'm leaving for the Good Guys show in Indy this afternoon, so it may not be until later tonight/tomorrow

Here are some rear shots of the car.

Initial mock up of aluminum panels.

Additional glass work and shaping done on the rear of the car to surround the panels
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/36.jpg

Changed up the rear bumper design as well to fit the car. made aluminum bumpers that are much sleeker and modern looking.

http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/34.jpg

At ride height. The rear quarter panels were also widened about 1" per side to accomodate the 12.5" wide rear wheels better.

Thanks for the great responses from everyone. This is going to be an incredible car when it is completed. There is more detail and fabrication in this car than anything we have built. We were really trying to push the limits on this build.

Here is the exhaust tip.

This is the top, inner wall shown before it was welded together. there is a sketch below it to show how it will come together.

This is the above picture welded and metal finished.

Here is the exploded view of all of the inner panels. (The bottom has been started)

All 4 panels welded ad metal finished.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/RS-Perf/62.jpg

No picture, but the 4 panels were then welded together to make a box. an outer skin was made and the whole assemble was welded together to make the complete exhaust tip. (Shown upside down to view the inside detail)

I was really impressed with this build until I saw those cheesy plastic zip ties holding the shock resevoirs to the frame. You would think that on a build of this caliber they could have at least used bailing wire! :unibrow:

The fancy black zip ties were on back order so we used the white zip ties for mock up. We plan on clipping the excess off the ends for a clean install. We may use hose clamps for more strenght.

Trying to post more pics, but I'm on the road and the connection is way too slow. I'll try to continue the updates as soon as possible.
