Congrats to Mark Stielow and Charley

Mark won the road course part of the Motorstate Challenge at Gingerman today in Jackass. Pretty amazing for a brand new car with no real track time to sort it out, full street tires also. Charley will be popping in I'm sure, but he said the car is just so easy and comfortable to drive fast , it's amazing. I think Charley had 9th fastest time, so he was hauling too.............. Can't wait to hear all the particulars.

There's still the Autocross tomorrow, but Stielow won the road course segment. And that with Jackass on regular Michelin PS2 street tires.

yes. Steve's car hauls the mail on an autocross. On the road course I think Mark went 1:36, Charley was 9th at 1:41, and I think Penny was in the 1:45 range. DSE held 2nd and 3rd best times in their two cars, but I didn't get the actual time.

Typical conversation between a Lat-g Dad and their young'uns tomorrow...

Now when you kids buy your first Camaro, always look for the 'Mark' ... of excellence. :D

You got that right! :D

What a well run event. Our cruise to the park for the BBQ had at least three different police agencys helping with traffic. They also set aside two floors of a parking garage for us in the case of hail etc in case it was needed. This tiny laptop is too hard to type on. Yes Stielow finished first in todays road course. The car works so well for it's first track test. The brakes are amazing. They grip even harder as they get hot.Lots of fast cars on the track and lots of guys learning and having a great time. A big thanks to all the sponsors and everyone that made this thing happen. I'm sure they will do it again.

rogue 06-20-2009 08:25 PM

No surprise. Its a bad car thats for sure.

Congrats!

jody, i had the third fastest time. 1:36.78 behind ryan at dse who ran 1:36.13 and of course mark, with a 1:34.58
was a great event, lots of fun and plenty of sun.
and plenty of off track excursions
jake
i think rupp ran 1:44 and david ran 1:39 or 1:40

Really impressive Jake since you were down a 100 horse on most of your competition. How about Jackass and the 20/19 combo, imagine it on some R888's. Jealous as hell!

Tom.A 06-20-2009 09:59 PM

Congrats Charley & Mark

That's awesome. A killer car and and just think with some sticky tires and more sorting....look out.

Congrats also to Jake. I dig "Destroyer" Sp?

WILWAXU 06-21-2009 12:31 AM

it was a great time, now for autocross.

Rybar 06-21-2009 07:45 AM

Congrats guys, sounds like all the cars ran well.

slck6t9 06-21-2009 08:06 AM

That's awesome! So Charley how does this car compare to the Mule on the road course?

tones2SS 06-21-2009 08:48 AM

Very cool.
Congrats to all the guys. This is what makes you really proud of your car, how it runs and how hard you can push it and it's responsiveness.
Very nice.

ProdigyCustoms 06-21-2009 09:45 AM

Doing it on 19 / 20 street tires..........WOW! So much for the 19s / 20s won't work theroy! Big props to Mark for building something fresh and kicking ass!

So what was the tire rule? Who ran what? DSE is usually on BFGs?

nothing lower than a 100 wear rating, and had to be dot legal, not grooved racing tires to be eligible for the competition.

I haven't been on the site much lately so I feel a bit "out of the loop". What "new" car did Mark use to win the Motor state Challenge?

I hear that Gregweld...... I'm just getting my voice back now and quickly loosing it by cursing the fact I couldn't be there LOL....

skatinjay27 06-21-2009 12:22 PM

i think what alot of people dont think about is that mark also probally has a good amout of seat time on the road course... and road course driving is a hole nother beast compared to auto-x... so its not really a situation of penny or another car not performing just as good its the driver. i mean theres no doubt jackass is a god amongst 69s :D but suspension wise theres a good amount of competitors that have car that are in the same class.

daleepp 06-21-2009 02:04 PM

Hello Jason Aschle;

true, you could put Mark in a rental car and he'd probably be competitive................. There are others that are the same, just speaking of Mark since that's the topic. It just shows that the car is capable, which is cool.

skatinjay27;

Hey - Thanks for a proper answer. OMG - that car is amazing! :wow: Probably the coolest Camaro of all time. I wasn't going to go to Columbus this year - but if it's going to be there - I've simply got to go.

Thanks again for the link.
