SO here goes guys (and gals). It's time for me to start a thread. I think some of you are doubting I even have a car by now. I've been going on about every system in the car and never posted any pics. Well the pics still are not here.I promise you all, I do have a car. Really, I do. But I do have some things I'd like your opinions on.
Ben Hermance did an awesome job on this. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Let me know what color and style you like best.
Thanks
Eric

awr68 07-16-2009 12:29 AM

Actually they all look great! Nice work Ben!!
I am leaning towards the first one. Is it black....or a dark grey like my car?

70rs 07-16-2009 12:34 AM

The first one is black with a ghosted hockey stick on the side, the red one is Monterey Red (GM 'vette color) with the hood center and trunk lid darkened up just a bit. The silver is Cortez Silver with a split hockey stick ghosted in a shade lighter silver. As Ben suggested, the side markers will be gone if I go with a side graphic.

awr68 07-16-2009 12:55 AM

I have an idea.....I sent you a PM!

SickSpeedMonte 07-16-2009 06:08 AM

I like them all!

jy211 07-16-2009 06:22 AM

black :thumbsup:no side graphics!

XcYZ 07-16-2009 06:51 AM

Hermance and Rushforth, great combination.

I'd have to say red... not that I'm biased or anything.

Vegas69 07-16-2009 08:07 AM

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I like the silver.

You said it brother!!!
The renderings look awesome Ben, as usual. Eric, I like the red. Like I stated in my email to you. I think that car would look killer in that color red with some metallic in it.

OLDFLM 07-16-2009 09:11 AM

Awesome!

Or that burgundy that Frank used on the Bullrun Chevelle!!!

Great job Ben!!!! I'm stoked for you Eric!!

Digging the solid hockey stick stripe on the black version... shave the sidemarkers regardless... color is really up to you my friend!

HAHA!! Good one, Scott! I agree! Nice wheel choice, Eric! Nice designs, Ben!

GregWeld 07-16-2009 09:48 AM

Hummmmm.... what is it they say about "opinions"??

Eric -- I think you should let your wife choose the color... that way she'll be happier to let you drain the bank account.

Your's truly,

Greg, that is probably the way it is going to happen. I didn't give her any other options with the car so the color may be up to her. At this point she likes the silver. I like all of them.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Hdesign 07-16-2009 10:37 AM

Thanks for all the great feedback guys! Eric made it easy with such a killer car...I'm not bias or anything of course.

I think the car needs some stripes whether they're on the side or top. And I think it'll look great with a subtle contrast. Usually I lean towards stealthy black, but I'm really liking the Monterey Red. Darker and richer reds have always been a favorite of mine because they aren't common. You can't go wrong with a silver or black car, but I personally would like to see something that has an outstanding identity. Don't let my personal taste shade your opinion though. (bad pun intended) :_paranoid

NOT A TA 07-16-2009 10:50 AM

I like the black with the ghost hockey stick.

wookham 07-16-2009 11:21 AM

DO THE RED

70rs 07-16-2009 02:46 PM

I'm thinking wookham likes red. I like them all. It is going to be tough, but the silver is winning out so far in this house (wife).
Ben is right, it needs some kind of graphic or stripe to go with the base color.
If I had the funds to build three, that's exactly what I'd do.

66LS7 07-16-2009 02:51 PM

Silver/Red

I would do the silver with a faided red hocky stripe, & then have the same color red pinstripe on the wheels.

Here is the final choice guys. I thank you all for your input. And a HUGE thanks to Ben Hermance for all of his hard work and for putting up with me through this. You rock man!
I hope you all like them.

It's going to look sweet! Now go start on the body work!! :P

Nice work Ben!!

I agree with you Tony.
She's gonna be a beauty Eric. Keep us posted. Great work Ben!:lateral:

70rs 07-17-2009 03:54 PM

The body work is a ways off Anthony.

I am going to continue with the teardown and clean up of the subframe. Need to toss the old motor and trans in the lake. Then another trip to the media blaster. It had been blasted before I got it but they left the interior in it AND the motor and trans. After that I will weld up the stock sub frame and get it powder coated, then start hanging new parts on it.

In the mean time the motor should start taking shape. I still have not ordered my rotating assembly or heads. There is a bunch of stuff to start buying really soon.
While the motor is going together, the body will be at a local place getting some love. The window channel in front is toast and needs to be replaced. There are a couple other areas needing rust repair too, but overall it is pretty solid. I have new fenders, hood, trunk lid, rear tail light panel and quarters all here if I need them (may not need the rear quarters). I'd like to do as much as possible myself on this. Other than the body repairs and prep/paint I hope to do everything else myself.
Let the games begin!

I'd like to thank everyone for the support and advice. It has given me the balls to jump in with both feet and do this. I'm not a total rookie, but in no way am I any kind of expert. Your advice, answers, ideas, comments are all very much appreciated and will ALWAYS be welcome!

I will start posting pics soon. I know I am slacking bigtime there.

tones2SS 07-17-2009 04:05 PM

Sounds good Eric.
Now get off the computer and get back to work on that bad boy!!! lol
Just kidding bud. Keep us posted.

That's going to be a sweet ride!

thedude327 07-18-2009 09:44 AM

The renderings look great !!! Any one of those schemes would work just fine. If you run into any questions on your 70 , fire away, oh and post some pics of your proj. when you can..........would like to see it. Here's one tip, if you can get your hands on a parts car second gen., do it. You can cut out the sections of damaged window channel and have them welded in from the parts car without fabbing up the contours (bends) from scratch.

Paul

Kendall Burleson 07-18-2009 11:27 AM

I like the silver It nothing cool than a black car (silver and ghost treatment)

Thanks for the tips Paul. There is a second gen near by that may have the parts I need for the windows. But the rest of the car is trash. It was an old drag car and has been beaten beyond help. The roof structure is about the only semi straight part left. I'll have to see if the channels are ok and what he wants for the shell. The guy thinks everything on his property is worth gold for some reason. Hes got over 20 cars there and the county has been after him to get them out. His forced sale is not going so well because of his prices.
I'll get some pics up in the next week or so of my car. It is nothing special to look at right now. But it is a really good base for this build.

BlkBird 07-28-2009 08:19 AM

I think you might be a little biased.

I landed on the silver/grey/red stripe with black wheels. The hood is a point of discussion with the wife (it's going to be flat, SSSHHHHH:rofl: ) she wants the cowl hood.

Thanks for all the great input guys! Time to start building.

Yes. They both look awesome Eric. But, I think your wife has got good taste. Because I agree with her about the cowl hood! lol:thumbsup:
Either way, awesome looking ride!

70rs 07-29-2009 12:56 PM

I may have to end up doing the cowl hood in addition to the flat one to keep her happy. We'll see how it goes.
It was Ben who made it look so good, I just had some ideas. But the two tone and red stripe was all Ben. He suprised me with it and it stuck. That is why guys like him , Jason R, Carter and all the rest are so good at what they do. I just don't have the "vision" required to do it right. You should have heard the "piping vs mullet" conversation me and Jason had at the Googuys BBQ. Good thing I'm not a designer is all I can say! Thanks Jason!!

OLDFLM 07-29-2009 01:14 PM

I say cowl and baby spoiler... or flat with no spoiler.
But I prefer the cowl/spoiler version fwiw!

70rs 07-29-2009 01:32 PM

How about baby spoiler, no cowl, no front lower spoiler either?
I think if it had the cowl hood, a front spoiler would look ok.
Tony Rose brought up a good point at the GG show last weekend, that the second gens look good with no front spoiler, and with a baby rear spoiler.
But that if the car has the large three piece rear, then a front spolier looks good on it too. I have to agree. I saw both at the show and it made a big difference in person.
I think the cowl hood also looks better with the front spoiler, it helps balance out the fron end a bit. IMO.

Confused yet?

YES!! Now hurry up and get cranking on it so we can see it right here -- and then we can all comment on how we might have done it "better/different/more/less" etc....

A LITTLE!!! lol:lol:
Just kidding bud. Either way it's gonna be bad ass. But, I still like the cowl hood and chin spoiler. Adds "character"!!

70rs 07-30-2009 10:45 AM

I honestly think it looks good with the cowl hood. But the flat one looks even better to me.
It's been hovering around the tripple digit temps here this week. Not much going on in the garage.

The design is done, the hood and spoiler will work out either way. Time to get my hands dirty again. Now I know what I am shooting for so it's easier to move forward.
I have the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, cooling and fuel systems, interior and pretty much all the little details planed out. Some may change along the way, but I am at a point where I can start making good progress now.

The car should be going back to media blasting in the next couple of weeks (to be done right this time). The exterior had been done before I got it. But they left the interior and drivetrain in. That is all out now. The sub frame is coming off and going to be stripped of parts. Then it can all go get blasted.

Slight change in the paint. I have seen a couple other cars with similar paint jobs to the one I had decided on. I really wanted to go with it but at the same time want my own car, not a duplicate of someone elses. So after bugging Ben some more (and thank you Ben for being so patinet with me:thumbsup: ) he came up with a little different design/color combo.

The main body color is the same dark grey as Tony Rose is doing on Karma and the center stripe is black with a red divider stripe. The red is carried to the wheels and will also be in the interior in a few small places to tie it all together.
I think having the Rushforth wheels with black centers and tinted windows will look great with the black center stripe. I can't wait!!

Vegas69 08-07-2009 11:41 AM

That should make Tony happy since you live in the same area.:unibrow:

70rs 08-07-2009 11:54 AM

The darker color was his(Tonys) idea in the original design. He sent me a pic of a Ferrari with it ( It's a factory color ) and thought it would look good incorporated into the silver theme somehow, just to break up the base a bit. I really like the color and wanted to keep it so I asked Ben to swap body and stripe colors around, this is what he came up with. Ben is great to work with.
The whole thoughts about color started at the GG show up here when I saw a first gen with pretty much the same color scheme (silver base/grey center stripe) then right after that saw the second gen from the Anvil site with a very similar paint job.
With as much time and effort I am putting into this car, I'd like it to be a little more unique and not "one of three" if that makes sense.
