Desert Find 69 Firebird ,,, My new project

hello everybody ,,,

a gearhead from the other parts of the plant ,,, i am writing from Saudi Arabia ,,,for 4 years i was waiting for my lucky day ,,, i keep looking in junkyards barns every possible place u can think about for old muscle cars (specially bird and camaros ) ,,, and i was hoping for a 69 car ,,, to me this year is THE Year of muscle cars ,,, few weeks ago i found a 69 firebird sleeping in an old junkyard ,,, went to the owner of this junk yard ,,, he was a very nice guy however i wanted to play it smart ,,, coz if he notice that u really wants a car that they have the price will go UP uP uP UP ,,, so i started asking about this and that then he told my if u want to buy anything do it now coz the goverment is asking them to leave the area in two days ,,, (this is really my lucky day) then i told him i want to work on a project in the summer but am not sure about which car will be fun ,,, he told me to buy his 56 ford pick-up ,,, i told him i dont like pickups and the prince is above my budget ,,, then he said what do u think about this (pontiac!!) i told him is it a caprice !! he said no its a pontiac coupe ,,, i asked about the price ,,, boom deal done ,,, paid him in cash took the car with me ,,,and when i say cash i mean the amount of cash we usually hold in our pockets

Congrats on the new project.
You are one brave man! I'm thinking that it's going to cost you a LOT more to fix this one than it would to just start with one that is straighter.

Demo 07-18-2009 09:06 AM

well ,,, if its in good shape i dont need it ,,, it all about the fun of restoring it ,,, and i'll be doing most of the labor my self ,,, just wish me luck

Vegas69 07-18-2009 11:51 AM

You are out of your mind....

Grambo90 07-18-2009 12:10 PM

Nice find, good luck on the build. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 69 Firebird too. It's good to see more Firebirds on the site.

BritishGreen68 07-18-2009 12:22 PM

holy crap that thing is just about gone,, you have alot of work ahead of you but good luck!! Get it torn down and see what you have for a shell to start with!
you should be buying roof skin, dash top, 1/4 panels, hood, fenders, doors, floorboards, trunkfloor, wheel houses, headlight buckets/bezels, tail light panel, instead of suspension LOL!!!

214Chevy 07-18-2009 01:47 PM

Hey bro, not to sound negative, you are a gearhead from another planet. I agree & understand what you mean about wanting to fix it up and that being the fun part & all. But why put yourself thru that if you don't have to....physically & financially. Nonetheless, congrats & have a damn good time. Like others have said, keep us up to date on this one. I want to see this.:lolhit:

Efi69Cam 07-18-2009 01:54 PM

I'm not sure what the difference between replacing a dented and rusted panel and one that is just rusted is.

This car is more savable than many I have seen saved.

67rstbkt 07-18-2009 02:30 PM

Good luck on your project; and keep the pics coming.

Demo 07-18-2009 04:00 PM

Thanks everybody for all the positive AND the negative coments ,,, here in suadi arabia its very hard to find a muscle car ,,, actully its very hard to find anything in the 60's 70's range that is worth working on ,,, so when i saw this 69 firebird it was like a dream comming true ,,,

however ,,, if i was to choose between this car and an ok condition car i will take this 1 ,,, if i am going to repaint the car do drivetrain wheels suspention interior then i prefer to work on cheap car to start with ,,,

worth saying , thanks to god there is no rust on the car except for the trunk and the hood(it was laying on the ground for years thats y its rusted ) other than that the car is soild ,,, dont get fooled by the rusty color ,,, its the old paint not the rust ,,, and i will do most of the bodywork my self ,,, i will only buy the trunk panel and a hood and i will try to fix everything else as much as i can keeping good quality job in mind ,,,

Wish me luck "I need it "

regards
mohannad

Welcome to the site mohannad, and best of luck with your project!!

Vegas69 07-18-2009 10:06 PM

I have a question for you. How much is a gallon of gas U.S. over there? :_paranoid

Modmach1 07-19-2009 03:53 AM

Congrats with a fun project!
Cool that you actually can find these cars in Saudi-Arabia.
I have a far out '62 Impala myself that everyone say is beyond repair, but i mean that these projects should be saved as well :)

69 Firebird

Some of you guys are seriously missing the point here- he found a 69 Firebird in Saudi Arabia. That's like finding a mint Yenko in Argentina! Also- I think some of you are seriously underestimating the industriousness of a motivated man. Some people aren't used to having shops in every corner of their city, so they learn to take care of things themselves. While it may not win a Riddler, I'm sure he'll enjoy it. As much as I love the high quality of so many of the cars here, I think many of us get wrapped up in 'keeping up with the Jones's' (myself included).

Demo 07-19-2009 07:05 AM

thanks everybody

i really appreciate the support ,,, the point as said finding a 69bird in saudi is not easy and by law we cant import any car that is older than 5 years with exception to (30years +)but the broblem is it wont be street legal ,,, so finding this 69bird is like finding a hiden treasure ,,,

I Strongly belive that the aftermarket parts has effected our abilitiy to be creative ,,, if u visit countries like egypt u will find shops restoring any things and i MEAN ANYTHING ,,, the reason is the parts are expensive so they Fix ,,, i will try to minimize replacing bodyparts as much as possible ,,, we can buy sheelmetal and we have hammers we can do anything ,,, however suspension and breaks i'll be buying for sure ,,,

I promise that this car Will be a very very good car ,,, hammering a panel does not mean its gonna look bad ,,,

I WILL DO ALL WHAT I CAN ,,, AND WISH FOR THE BEST ,,,

i started cleaning the car and removing the interior ,,, got my 4 disk brakes kit fron ss396 nothing fansy + DSE control arms(Coilovers) rare and front sway bar from DSE ,,, i will order a fiberglass hood next week just looking for a nice looking 1 ,,,

u cant belive how hard it is to remove a 40years old bolt !!!

gearheads78 07-19-2009 08:25 AM

congrats on the find ....looking forward to seeing your progress

dropit69 07-19-2009 11:04 AM

congtrats on the find..thats so cool seeing a car like over there..keep us updated and good luck.!!

TreySmith 07-19-2009 11:29 AM

Does it have an engine?

It really isn't that bad, the only hard part will be the roof and even then you will be amazed how much of it will pop back into place with a little hammering.

Honestly man, get it running and driving first, the rest can come later. Make sure you do the car right though so you can keep on enjoying it for a long time

It seems like you are truly happy with the car, I wasn't happy with my first project so I sold it and bought my 1980 Trans Am and I love it, I have gotten so much done on it. I never did anything with my last car.

ranger2339 08-19-2009 08:22 AM

Any updates on this. I really like this guys motivation and drive.

Josh

Josh69 08-19-2009 10:57 AM

Good luck fellow bird bro! FWIW, my car 'looked' better than that when I pulled mine out of a barn....but in reality it wasn't. It took alot of work to make it nice, like most cars on this forum.

Best of luck! Keep us posted.

Josh

Holy crap a 69 Firebird in Saudi

I've been working as a civilian in Iraq for the last few years, if I could find a nice project in a junk yard of Iraq that would awesome.

Let us know if you need help getting anything over there. I can imagine that it'll be tough getting all the little stuff together from over there.

Sounds like you're getting somewhere. Post up some more pics when you get your stuff and make some progress. Have you started deconstruction yet?

Wow :wow: nice progress!! Any luck with getting it registered? I was just in Egypt last year around this time visiting my in laws and heard how expensive it was to register cars. I was told they base it on how many liters your engine is. Is that the case in Saudi Arabia?

waynieZ 10-28-2010 09:03 PM

Very impressive, That looks great. Nice progress.
