G-Machine ultimate goal!
Has anyone reached there ultimate goal of pulling over a g in the corners???
|
I'm sure more than a few have, it's not "that" difficult to achieve. With smaller dia wheels i'd be willing to bet my truck gets real close to it.
Well built Gen I's like Mule and such should be able to rip well past 1g on a flat skidpad. :hail: |
Sure.......
Now I'm looking for the illusive 1.2+ and beyond. |
I am just building my first g-machine so seeing as it is relativly simple to get there, what is the highest anyone has tested on a flat skid pad??? street legal vehicls only!!
|
Up to 40 "G"s on my car..so far.
still haven't driven it yet though. |

Actually, the 1g mark isn't all that easy to achieve. Most g-machines average in the high .80g's to the mid .90g's. You'd be surprised at what most modified cars really can do.

With normal street tires it could be hard, but with a set of sticky slicks it is doable.
During braking you can reach it, but that's another thing. I wanted to test my brakes at a redlight and braked as hard as possible, result: the wife slid out of the frontseat and down on the floor :D Jan |

Yep, tires are incredibly important. Of course, you can cheat, and use R compound tires to pump up the numbers! It's been done before. And with racing slicks, if you are not WAY over 1 G, you should strongly consider selling the car.
Just keep in mind also, that "G" forces measured on a skid pad is only one aspect of how fast a car will ultimately be. Skidpads are steady state systems, meaning the car isn't going through transitions, such as bumps, or alternating turns, off-camber banking, etc. A skid pad is just like a chassis dyno, it shows potential, but doesn't always equate to how fast a car will go. Jan: I can just see the picture.... After she collects herself, looks over at you with "that" look, you kind of say in a sheepish way, "gee, sorry honey, er, are you okay???" And then brace yourself for the shoulder to the ribcage (this is an automatic response for me now, like breathing my survival instinct has conditioned me to brace for impact!). Mark |
Yep
