Cash for Clunkers Procedure
Ouch!
|
What a waste... on many levels. I'm so glad my taxes went to buy and destroy a perfectly useable car.
The Feds can't even run Cash for Clunkers right, I can only imagine how F'd up our healthcare would be with them running it. :beathorse |
I wish people would wake up from their fast food induced comas.
Waste like this make me sick to my stomach. |
That video enraged the car guy within me.
Between this, and other frivolous spending programs being shoved on us and the threat of socialised health care. When do we start the revolt and were do I sign up? |
not to mention they are killing a car that gets 17 mpg, then giving $4500 towards one that gets 18mpg. AM I MISSING SOMETHING ?
|
That is ridiculous. A 1995 Aurora while not my favorite car, is not a clunker. If it passes smog, then it should be exempt from the program.
|
WTF?? And to think someone actually got paid for dreaming up this wonderfull program. :censored:
And the huge cloud of sh*t created while destroying these cars is helping us all breath a little better too? Again, WTF?? |
Talk about waste and abuse, taken from official site: http://www.cars.gov/faq#category-16
"What happens to the vehicle I trade in? The CARS Act requires that the trade-in vehicle be crushed or shredded so that it will not be resold for use in the United States or elsewhere as an automobile. The entity crushing or shredding the vehicles in this manner will be allowed to sell some parts of the vehicle prior to crushing or shredding it, but these parts cannot include the engine or the drive train." And IMHO this is nothing more than pumping money into the auto industry. A billion dollars at a time. I wonder who will *really* pay for this. |
Another "awesome" point in all this, most of the cars that people are buying are the Toyotas and Hondas!! Ford Focus was the ONLY American car on the top 5 list.
What a shame! |

Thanks for the info Mark.
But still... a car that gets 14/16 (city/highway) vs 16/18 (city/highway) [4 mpg combined] isnt THAT much better. |
Look at this Volvo they blow up, and the 2 Explorers waiting in the wings,In my mind not clunkers at all. The problem with this whole thing is that the people who are driviing clunkers drive them for a reason, they can't afford a new one.I have a 94 Explorer that my 16yr old daughter drives, but only working 2 part time on call jobs I certainly can't afford another payment on top of the 2 I have now.Now if they would give me a good deal on my pickup I would consider it but now they just give me a low ball trade in value.

Why not give these cars to people that can't afford to buy a new car that are driving huge piles of sh*t that burn two quarts of oil a week. (Everyone has been stuck driving behind one of them)

you know I have a huge problem with this. I had no idea they went about it this way. What I think about is the families that are struggling to get by and maybe their transportation is way worse off. Couldn't they use a decent running car?
Maybe I am missing the boat. Yes it has boosted sells for ford, but why couldn't the cars be donated and used as transportation for people struggling to get by. I guess it goes hand in hand, we have some people who don't even try to help themselves where others are always trying to but are still back in a hole. (sorry, I am getting off of topic) RANT OVER! :D Does this mean are metal prices will decrease? Or is there not enough clunker cars cycling to cause any significant drop in metal prices? |
If I had a sh!t box that qualified, I'd be buying a new car too.
Hell, might as well get in on something I'm helping to pay for. |

How fricken stupid. Never been so disappointed in our goverment. I guess I need to start thinking about Hot Rod Hybrids! Electric Pro Touring cars! UGH!
|
This is a complete waste. Then they crush them after this. So far, the number one car being sold from this program is the Toyota Corolla. Great way to stimulate US auto makers (I know the Toyotas are made here now).
Am I the only one who sees a repeat pattern here? Doesn't this program seem familiar? Wasn't there some other program that tried to stimulate the market by getting people who can't afford something into debt for something they can't pay for? Wait, wasn't that the housing program?! Isn't that what caused this problem? I wonder how the used car market is going to look after they reposses cars from people who can't afford them? Just a thought, Mike |
What do they do with all the scrap metal after they scrap the cars..............I know, they put it on a boat and SHIP IT TO CHINA

I guess since it still under way the numbers are still coming in. Check out 3 of the top 4.

Talking about car makers, heres another one. Remember when the CEOs of GM and Chrysler got yelled at by congress for the nerve they had to show up in company jets? Take a look at this. These aren't bottom of the line or even middle of the line.

This is a complete outrage. Years ago I was a mechanic. Telling people to destroy a vehicle in order to qualify? These are the same politicians who put together the legislation for the mortgage industries. They are telling dealers to COMMIT FRAUD.....
Lets see. By them burning up the engines and the polutnts that are expelled??? Wow thats green.... This is teaching and condoning FRAUD.... I cant believe this is where the great USA has come to .... Blessings, AMS |
Has anyone seen the news reports about the government information web site regarding the clunker program? Do not log on to the site. It has a disclaimer about your computer being considered part of the government network and while logged on it is their property. They have wording in the disclaimer about being able to observe, audit, sieze, share(with both foriegn and domestic agancies). It basicly says they own your computer and all information inside it when you log on. It also gives them the ability to track everything you do after. I am not a conspiracy thinker, just sharing what I saw on a news report.

I see that Chrysler/Fiat/UAW's new Italian tin can car will be built in...Mexico!! I also see that GM/UAW/US GOV's new tin can car will be built in...Asia!! What a great way to help out the US economy. In a way it's kind of funny because who helped bring down GM and Chrysler? The UAW. And now they are getting screwed by the guys that got elected, the hardcore left. Ain't karma a bitch?
