17" or 18"?

trying to decide between 17" or 18"
I am mainly concerned with fitting the widest tire/rim combo possible uner the car

1973 Camaro

thoughts and/or pics?

18's!

speedjohnston 08-23-2009 08:10 PM

I have a 72 and went with 18's

Here's one we did with 19s all the way around in stock wheelwells as an example of diameter not affecting fitment.

Along with this one running 18s all the way around.

Given your main concern of using the widest rim and tire you can, then 17" should make that easier than a taller rim of 18", given a tire of the same height.

anyone else?

Apogee 08-26-2009 02:43 PM

I think Jay's pics say it all...definitely 18's. More room for brakes as well which is never a bad thing. Assuming similar tire heights, wheel diameter doesn't really play a role in determining your max width for fitment purposes as the outside profile of the tire remains the same.

Thanks Man! Double compliment because he's a design client and a wheel client.

And just in case your decision hasn't been hard enough, here's one we did with 18s and 19s

Those cars look sick... You deffinately make some of the best looking wheels out there. I'm saving my pennies as we speak... hopefully some day.

Any details on that silver one Jason, the first one w/ 18's?

No problem, He's running 18x10s and 18x12s with 275/35s up front and 335/30s out back with the full DSE treatment to accommodate all that meat. He'll be breaking it in on the autocross at Good Guys in Dallas next month so watch for him in TX!

The T-man 09-15-2009 01:38 AM

how'd he pull off 275's(!) in the front?:_paranoid

DSE front subframe will allow you to put a 9-10" wheel up front, with 275 wide tires. The frame has all the necessary room to turn lock to lock.
