70 Nova on a budget

Well I have kind of lost some of my motivation so I'm posting some of my project pics hoping a few comments will give me that motivation back.
here is a few pictures of what I started with. It's nothing High dollar like most of the project posts on here.

Ok, I started with the engine and engine bay. First time I have done any project this big. So I had no clue on where to start. So I started with what I knew best the engine.

Looks pretty good, keep doing what you're doing. What are your plans for it? Once you get going you will realize that you can do much more than you thought. I'm up to my neck in Rusty metal, but I have found that if I separate everything into smaller sections, things start to happen.

The old power plant:

and here is the new powerplant I built for the car:

What are you using for tranny?

burntnova 09-04-2009 03:29 PM

Well right now I have a TCI streetfighter Turbo350 that was laying around so I'm going to use that for now. Ultimate goal would be to put a 5 speed in it.

I might be a little bias, but heres a video of my 71 Nova. Hope it motivates you. You got a solid Nova there, keep us posted on the progress.

70rs 09-04-2009 03:50 PM

That's one nice Nova! Nice job with the repairs and engine bay clean up too. Dig in and go for it. You have a great foundation to work with there and like 67rstbkt said, if you cut it down into smaller projects or sections it is really not too bad. Go look at what I have to start with and you will feel MUCH better about yours. I am having a hell of a time with motivation this week and no idea why. But looking around here and asking questions seems to help get me back in gear.
Good luck and please keep the pictures and updates coming. I just subscribed to this build.

Very cool man.
But seriously, all you need to do for "inspiration" is to browse these threads of lateral-g.net and that will get your blood pumping.
Keep us posted.

Ok now I moved to the back of the car where I had to replace both rear quarters, outer wheelhouses and tail panel.

Ok so after I stripped the rest of the car down to the bare metal with my poor overworked DA. I sprayed a coat of etching primer on the car and this is how it sits. I still have to go back and fix a few spots before I spray it again and begin to block it.

I like the color. Let's see more.

thedude327 12-25-2009 08:11 AM

Great proj. !!! Keep plugging away at it because you've got the hard stuff pretty much handled. Be sure and carefully check around the windshield and rear glass openings as those are notorious spots for rot on these old cars. Is the color your using GM Rally Green ? Looks like it should really stand out.

The color is actually a Kirker Product, Sour Apple Green.
So as I was looking over the car for the tenth time something didn't look right around the back window so I pulled it out and look what I found. This being my first classic build, I have taken and learned some good advice from ppl on this site and I appreciate the help.

Here's a few pictures of the door jams. I got them sprayed the other day after I fixed the area above the rear window.

Also did the core support. I wasn't sure if I wanted to actually paint the core support the green or leave it black. I guess I'll find out if I'm happy with it after I get the front end back together.

burntnova 12-30-2009 04:48 PM

I am going to put some platinum silver racing strips on the hood and trunk lid. Should look pretty good with the silver that I have choosen.

That looks great, I like the color.

Wow, very impressive. Exactly what did you mean by the first time you've done a project this big. From these post, we've watched you rebuild and engine, replace a bunch of panels and paint the car. All of it looks to be done at home but very well done. Keep up the great work.

All my other projects have been on newer cars or not this much work on on classics. This was the first time I have done any panel replacement or paint work.I have built engine in the past so that's nothing new to me but everything else is a first on this one and yes everything is being done in the garage including the paint.

DFRESH 01-03-2010 07:56 PM

Looks awesome bro---impressive amount of work in a very short time---keep at it---looking forward to seeing it outside in the sun---

Doug

tones2SS 01-04-2010 04:27 PM

Like Doug says, I'd like to see that paint out in the sun!
GOOD WORK!

burntnova 01-04-2010 07:31 PM

Well hopefully if the sun every comes back out down here it might get a little sun one of these days. The car is coming together here is how the car sits right now.
