2010 Camaro SS --- Blower 1, Clutch 0
 
Well, we've gone into overdrive on our 2010 Camaro SS project car since we want it mostly done, performance wise, by SEMA.

First up was installing a DSE suspension kit. It was super easy to bolt on (except removing the front factory sway bar.. ack!) and we didn't even need a spring compressor. Car feels much better now and far less "wallowy" (is that a word?). It also looks better with the drop and we have zero problems with driveways and bumps.

Next up was the biggie.. the Magnacharger. This was done on a bone stock engine, we even kept the paper filter. We also did it to pass California smog and run on our craptastic 91 octane gas. In other words it was a very conservative tune.

The final pull ended up being 472 rwhp and 451 rwtq. Later we will try a cam and a few other "outside CA" modifications. As for the blower it feels great, more like it just has a higher displacement engine rather than a blower. The power comes on gradually and not "all at once". I think it would be good for a car that does track duty. Dropping into third on the freeway is a blast now and in sixth you wouldn't even know it's there. I was very impressed and I think one will end up on my car.. maybe soon.

BUT, we did find one limitation.. the stock clutch. Decided to try launching from a stop.. not a huge clutch dump, but fairly aggressive. Well.. the clutch bid this life farewell in a hail of smoke and nasty smells.. it's toast. We can still drive the car, just not hard since slips like crazy now.

We called Centerforce and as soon as we told them we put on the blower they said "so, have you blown the clutch yet?" I guess they've had this happen already. A new 2010 dual friction clutch is on the way and I will put it in on Wednesday so we can still make it to Buttonwillow raceway on Friday.

Today the Camaro got new Baer 6S brakes.. the 15" rotors are crazy big and the calipers are insanely big. The install took all of an hour and a half over at Best Of Show.. it really was that easy to do and that included bleeding them out. Right now I'm bedding in and seasoning them but so far they feel great and look great behind the factory wheels. In a couple weeks we will have our new Boze Forged wheels and 275 front/315 rear NT05 tires..

That's not good if Chevy is throwing in clutches that can't handle a little bit of the power.

lol.. I don't know if I would call adding 100 lb-ft of torque and 120 HP a "little bit of power".

To be fair to GM it's not thier job to support our power obsessions.. the stock clutch if fine on a stock engine.. not so much with a blower.

The clutch was on my list.. it's just happening sooner now.

Very cool. Not bad for a conservative tune. (Those pesky emissions play a big role in how much fun we can have, legally speaking.):mad:
Steve, how well do you think the MagnaCharger will respond to your LS2 compared to the LS3? As demonstrated above, it responds pretty well to a stock LS3. What numbers do you expcet to see if you decide to go with the supercharger? Thanks!:thumbsup:

That MagnaCharger would look bad *ss on Penny. You better start saving some money on tires...lol

What do I care.. they are your tires... :rofl:

I need to find out the compression on the stock LS3 engine.. I've read 10.7:1 and 10.9:1

Right now I'm 488 rwhp and 474 rwtq.. I also have 11.1:1 compression (need to recheck my math on that)

So we would run something like 5 lbs.. boost is a function of restriction so I'm not sure what I would get in my free-flowing 402 LS2...

I would also be tempted to put on a set of ported LS3 heads so I could run the LS3 Magna and not the cathedral port style. It's all so tempting since the 2010 SS is so dang drivable.

Then again, why the heck do I need a blower.. :_paranoid

Anyways, taking the 2010 to John Force's cruise night.. see ya!

Every time I see that car in person, I start to like it more and more. I think lowering it really helps.

Steve, I think I'm even liking it enough to have wished I'd taken you up on your offer to race for pink slips yesterday :rofl: . I don't think my little Mustang will have a chance when your clutch isn't burning up. I'd have felt bad for Yancy though...

This is true, however, aren't there a bunch of LS1 guys in the 4th gen Camaro's running superchargers and NOS and the like?

How high did the IAT'S get on the dyno pulls, and how long did it take for the iat's to come down to a "normal" number? Will you share the IAT numbers?

I will get those numbers.. don't have them handy.

I will say that we relocated the IAT sensor from the MAF to one located in the blower housing.

Keep in mind that the dyno fan is no substitute for the car actually moving so heat build up will be worse than in "real life"
