JCG Restoration & Customs 68 Chevelle build

8 Attachment(s)
Here is a 68 Chevelle convertible that we are currently working on here @ the shop.. This build has gone the several changes from when we first started.. Saving the shell was a challenge!! The car was an east coast car & had rust on the floor, rocker panels, kick panels qtrs, doors, & fenders.. I was lucky enough to find a doner coupe that gave its body parts to this build!!!

LQ9 motor
4L65 transmission
Magnacharger
Roadster Shop chassis with Detroit Speed clip & rear suspension
9 inch Ford with 3.50 gears

Subscribed. Your shop looks incredible. I may eventually have you guys do the tear down and bodywork/paint on my car if and when I ever get around to actually painting it. Its too much fun beating on it for now

Great project. Will be following the buildup. I may have to swing by with the camaro next time I drive up to Santa Barbara...

Cris@JCG 10-29-2009 09:26 PM

You are more than welcome to stop in anytime! When you are ready for tear down & paint, we will be happy to lay down some paint for you. In the mean time keep beating it up on the track :D

I nice interior with red accents would make that viper red stand out.
Do you find it more cost effective to paint the wheels yourself instead of having it done by the manufacturer. I think thats what I would do considering I wouldn't be able to make up my mind at that time of purchase. Wheel choices have always been a tough one for me.

Cris@JCG 12-02-2009 08:33 PM

I would rather have the manufacturer coat the wheels.. You get better finish on the wheels & the manufacturer can stand behind the product.. That is just my opinion though..

The front wheels that you see on the Chevelle are from another build I have here @ the shop

Gonzo, the car is looking great. If you haven't purchased the tires yet, you can definitely go with wider rubber on our chassis. We have been running Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. On the front, you can easily run a 275/35R18 and on the rear, I would run a 345/30R19. Just my 2 cents based on what we have found to perform the best.

Cris@JCG 12-03-2009 10:18 PM

Thank you for the compliment! When we mini tubbed the car, the customer did not want me to cut to much into the structure that would mess with convertible top frame coming down.. We only moved the inner wells 2 inches in for tire clearance.. I remember that when I ordered the chassis you mentioned that 345 in the rear & the 275 were the biggest tires we could run underneth the car.. Also customer wanted me to fill out as much of the wheel well opening as possible, so this why we are going with the tire combination I have listed.. Did not want to go bigger than 19/18 diameter wheels!
