A bit offtopic: 1961 Slabside Lincoln

This is a bit offtopic for this forum, but I figured some of you guys might enjoy it. This is my other project, a 1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible that has been in my family since 1972 or so. I bought it from my father when he tried to sell it and will likely pass it on to my kids if I ever have any....

I noticed the hydraulic pump has been misbehaving a lot recently, and upon closer inspection it had a bad o-ring and needed a rebuild. I replaced the pump and bled the system and it cycles good as new again.

Pretty impressive technology for 1961. These cars have so many damn features they are a nightmare to maintain, but well worth it in my opinion for sentimental reasons. It rides on air suspension with a dakota digital controller that can control the air about 2 blocks away. Good fun when people are leaning over the car...

Anyways, figured it might interest some of you, even though its out of its element here. It gets driven 2-3 times weekly and I'm willing to bet I could autocross it if I was stupid enough.

I bet that baby rides like a pillow. I had a 68 Chrysler Newport around 18/19 years old as my winter car. Bought it for 350 bucks. That car rode like a cream puff and had a huge back seat....:D

Very cool car. I like the sentimental aspect of it as well, keeping it in the family.

Very cool! The design was originally done as a Thunderbird, but given to Lincoln to help spur sales. Lincoln returned the favor in the 80's when Thunderbird was given its "aerobird" look, derived from the Mark VII.

Shiny Side Up!

Very cool. Dig the Johnny Lee Hooker soundtrack. Funny how people think the retractable hardtop is recent... They have no idea it goes back over 50 years!

awesome car. I love these cars. I have a 63 continental that a long time family friend gave me last year but due to the rattle snakes being so bad I have been unable to go and get it. I am planning on dragging her out of the field next week. It is a light blue with off white interior. I don't know much about her now but it appears to be complete.

Thanks for posting your car. I like the whitewalls and air ride.
