1968 firebird IRS kit
Hey all,
Nice place you have here. Like I have read in several post on this site I too have been searching for the ever elusive IRS install kits that don't cost 4500 dollars. So far I have been coming up short and hope you all can point me in the right direction. Even if i could just get the fabrication measurments / instructions to build my own...honestly as a matter of pride I would prefer this method. Anyway...I would be greatful for any help I can get. I'm hunting for a supplier builder that does IRS stuff - will post it as soon as I come up with it.

These guys have "kits" for Corvette IRS installs...
The prices you're quoting - 4K - etc -- would include the rear suspension... apparently you don't need those parts - you're just looking for brackets and instructions... ?? So try these guys: http://www.progressiveautomotive.com/sweetrear.htm |

I built my own for my 67 Camaro. Really wasn't too hard to do. Here's a pic.

That is just what the doctor ordered! I was wondering what to do about the forward links as most setups cut open the back seat...now i know. Other than just running them forward and apart does the location of those links hurt performance or are they just there to hold things put?

I made mine adustable so that I could move them around if I raise or lower the car. It also has some effect on anti squat but I havn't tested anything yet. you can see that I made mine from Speedway products tie rods and qa1 endlinks so I can also adjust the kingpin angle on the rear (if it really matters). Mine are also longer than stock. I do have minitubs installed, with out those you would be inside the inner fender. If it helps you I have the .dxf files for most of the components that I had my buddy waterjet for me. That should be worth at least a case of beer to you! :cheers:

a .dxf is a cad drawing file that your local shop can use to CNC the parts out with a plasma or waterjet table.:thumbsup: Way better than the old tourch or cutoff wheel method.

The length and the angles of the 4 links are a very much indeed important. It is also more important to have them longer than shorter for the most part because you will want the room for tire clearance where the front links will be and they need to be out of the circumferance of the tire where he has them if he plans on running the widest wheel and tire he can. Every 1/4" is a mile when it comes to clearance.
You can go into the back seat area and gain a ton more strength and still be able to put the back seat in and have it cover them. Once you do it you will never do it again because it is harder than starting from scratch, which is why I cut my floor and trunk out and did just that. it is a lot cleaner and just as easy to replace all the area with new and packaged to fit what you want. Google the word " Cormaro" and you will find quite a bit more about my car or just ask. Have fun!!!!:cheers: |
