LPGT update... still in metal work

2 Attachment(s)
Working every time I get the chance on my '66 Mustang Coupe..... got the body situated on the "Schwartz Performance"chassis, and the front (removable ) apron section finished, Griffin rad, ISIS powercell wiring system, Ricks Hot Rods fuel tank, Fore Precision fuel delivery, LFP heat exchanger and coolant tank mocked into place, and am finally working on outer sheet metal. Got the drivers side '06 GT headlamp in place, and it still actually looks like a Mustang. still have tons of work to do for correct proportion, but being at SEMA and seeing all the serious vehicles out there ( especially for the Optima Challenge) got me inspired to come home and kick some metal but again and get things laid out so I can begin final metal/bodywork. My goal now is to be able to drive to SEMA next year and ride on the coat tails of Brian Finch and all the other great builders that have cars that look as good as they function

Awesome.....keep at it, you have less than a year before you need to head west!!! :D

Thanks Anthony.... I was not sure how much "Cred" I would get on here not being a Camaro/Firebird guy or builder.... I was afflicted with the Ford bug a long long time ago, no apologies... :) I've got the entire weekend blocked out to work on LPGT and shoot photos... I cant wait. On a different note, we've just started a "twisty" friendly build on the show with a Ford Ranger, shoehorning in a 4 valve modular engine with trick suspension & other goodies yet to be named.... I'll post on the progress of that vehicle as well.

Thanks!

Yeah, what he said. ^^^ :D Fords are ok. If you're into that kind of thing.

Just kidding!! It does not matter what you build. Just build it. It looks like you are off to a good start and have some cool ideas for the project. I am looking forward to watching you build it.

Cool looking build, what manufacture is the hood from and how did it fit before you started cutting up the fenders? I can't find a cool hood for my '65, not many avalible out there.

I cant believe I'm hijacking my OWN thread LOL! I'll keep you posted on the Ranger project.... it's name is "Rolling Thunder" (yeah, i know... kinda corny...) but it should be a fun experiment.

The hood and other fiberglass on LPGT comes from "Mustang Depot" I believe Jay is a member here.... He's got some nice stuff to choose from and a great website; not just body parts... lots of performance goodies too. Like any fiberglass panels it's not a lexus ballbearing fit... none of it is, but 'glass is easy to tweak. Mostly it's a matter of trimming it down and gapping. It's all about the end goal as well, and this car will be what I would call a "show-driver" Definitly not a trailer queen, but still blocked flat with very nice paint and all of the utility of a driver project. I don't get to do them for "Me" much anymore with the schedule I keep, so this one is gonna be something I'm proud of.

Thanks for the kind words!

Brakes! Finally.....

Got my BAER 14 inch brake package this past week! So stoked to finally get the rolling chassis loaded with brakes. Im using the Baer 6P calipers and 14 inch rotors on all four corners. I've been working on other things as well, reinforcements here and there... and got the 04 Cobra (front) seats mounted permanently. Next is finishing the sheet metal mods on the front, some kind of cage ( maybe Brett will have a tiger cage for Mustang by the time I actually need it? are ya listeneing ridetech?) and then on to refining the body panels.

I've actually got some time over the holidays to work... we'll see how many honeydoos get in the way. LOL!

Updates...

Finally some time to work and some progress. Installing the first headlight was fun... matching it on the other side is a beeaaatch! got if though. had to figure out my front end, fascia, heat exchanger placement, etc... as well as a bunch of other fitment challenges... The front fascia wraps around like a late model, and is easily removable for H/E access. Im waiting on a new design fiberglass hood from Mustang Depot that should be in in a few more days... then I can finalize the fabrication and get it into filler and primer.... then the rest is a crapload of blocking and fitting gaps. The goal is to get it ready for Power Tour, or at the very latest SEMA.... when you're a one man show its all about time management I guess..

waynieZ 03-16-2011 08:21 PM

It looks good Kevin. I wouldn't even be able to do the first side never mind matching it. Nice work. Nice brake set up too.

Kevin look's real nice.Awesome project. Scott Mock

Thanks guys, I know it doesn't look like much in a fab-stage... but it'll start showing its real character soon enough. Once the stance is established and the overall silhouette is revealed it should be kinda mean looking. I appreciate the support, especially here where so many incredible cars are revealed and documented.

Looking great!!

Why not use the hood in the first pic? Does the hood not clear the blower assy?

DOOM 03-17-2011 07:36 AM

KT where you been???

Rybar 03-17-2011 01:16 PM

Looks good Kevin. When's the completion date? Sema??

Must be alot more fun working on this rather than the projects on the show

kttrucks 03-17-2011 09:18 PM

The hood in the pics before this one has a clearance issue with the IAC and blower inlet plenum. I bought the "DRAGON" inlet and giant single blade throttle body which as the IAC on the bottom... but it lifts the inlet elbow up for clearance and just creates another problem. I'd have to put a "buldge" in the Gt500 Hood that would look like crap. I was going to use a giant "Boss 9" scoop, but then found this new design hood that has extractors and ram air inlets... looks badass!

Im really hoping that it's finished by Power tour.... the biggest obstacle is the body and custom fab on the nose... the rest is mostly reassembly and wiring/plumbing. I'm going to be leaning on some friends and enlisting their help to accomplish this... I just cant wait to drive the silly thing! LOL!

Thanks for the kind words.

KT.
