Never seen paint peel up in peaces that big before.

Wow! My jaw dropped on picture three with all the paint peels sitting on the hood. That's craziness.

Actually, if I was the owner, I would box it up and file a lawsuit against the previous shop. They obviously did something wrong or were negligent somewhere. I would think this would be grounds for some form of reimbursment. My first phone call would be to the paint company to get their opinion as well.

Bakaruda 12-01-2009 04:39 PM

Love the paper paint.

awr68 12-01-2009 04:40 PM

Look closer

nvr2fst 12-01-2009 05:25 PM

Holy crap Pete! You sure that was paint. The way it was coming off in sheets you could swear it was a banner decal wrap over metal. LOL
As for the owner of the car... its a shame spending funds you weren't expecting but it looks like hes in good hands.

I have images of that car driving down the freeway and the paint just all flaking off in a huge dust storm of blue paint :)

nvr2fst 12-02-2009 06:21 PM

May we ask who painted the car prior to it coming to Pete as to know who to avoid.

fleet 12-02-2009 07:35 PM

Tones, wasn't that nice of Pete for helping you partially recover from the Aints whacking your beloved Patsies?! :P

Musclerodz 12-02-2009 07:39 PM

I would hazard to guess they may have dry fogged the base and did not wipe the car down before shooting clear creating a boundry layer of dust. Looks alot better now.

Looks to me like the base coat sat and was dry too long. It happens once in a while (i've never seen it happen but i have heard of it before) if you have a bake booth, and you bake the bascoat to fix an imperfection and you don't sand or scuff the whole car to keep spraying. Most basecoats like Chromabase or ppg have about an 8 hour window to clear. If you wait to long or bake it too long, guess what happens! Clear doesn't stick. I use spies hecker, which has an open recoat, meaning you can wait forever and the clear will still stick. Comes in handy if you have to sand any imperfections out of the basecoat, you can let it cure, and sand or fix what you need to and not have to sand the whole car, you just start spraying again..
