Floor mounted gas pedals....anybody?? Lets see them!
 

I have been looking into ways of dumping my pedal set(mainly gas pedal). Im looking to either design/build if i can't find any... or just buy a floor mount gas pedal.

Lets see your pedals..... And if it is a floor mount.. where or how you got it.

Yes.... and i can't stand the gas pedal. Even with all the different adjustments i tried... the gas pedal is just too short... falls behind the brake pedal too far.. ect.

That pedal set up looks pretty good. Im looking for something like this... use the stock brake and clutch... but have the gas pedal like this photo. I understand these pedals are(in the photo) "by wire"... but it seems feasable to adapt this style of pedal.... Maybe run a spacer style box coming from the fire wall and have the linkage tide into the pedal up top...:question:
This photo is from a porsche. It just seems WAY more solid.. especially for heel toe driving.

That Tilton pedal set is nice -- but I sure as hell wouldn't have accepted that crap plumbing! What a snakes den of crap that is!

Clayton Machine makes some "fancy" pedals -- but I'm thinking yours is more of an issue of placement etc rather than the looks?

I agree, the lokar puts the pedal a little to close to the brake pedal. Shortening the rod a 1/2 may do it.

Here are some prototype pedals from Wilwood.. Currently getting tooled & will be available in the next couple of months.. Pedals will be forged aluminum with stainless adjustable pads.. I got to test fit the prototype pedals on one of the builds here @ the shop :D We will have the gas throttle pad available the thru JCG

Those look nice when do they expect to have those ready? Also who's column mounts are those they like like what I need.

X2 on the pedals. Any ideas on what pricing will be like on the set? I would also like to know about the column mount. Can you tell us where it came from or anything else?:cheers:

I have a cable throttle though... Also.. it seems that pedal is pretty small and it will still be behind the brake pedal a bit. (lower i mean).
I huess what im looking for isn't out yet. I'll try and fab something up i guess. What gas pedal does "Penny" use... or maybe the RS Chevelle??

I can make gas pad to match what ever lever you are running on the car! All these pedal were set up for the driver of the car.. positions can be changed to suit you your best position for your feet!

They do look nice, thats for sure. PM me a price... or a guestimated one if the pricing isn't done yet.

All I can say about the pedals, is that it might be like 2 to 3 months till they have production pcs...Pricing on pedals is :question: .. But if you buy the pedal assembly 340-3950 with cast pedals in it.. It will allow you to set up your pedals & base to move the build forward & when the billet pedals are available you just order them & change them out :unibrow:

The collets for the steering column are made by machine shop... I had an extra set lying around here but Steve R got it for the TRACK RAT.. I have a list of stuff that I have right now that I am working out the pricing.. check out the cover that we made for the firewall that ties in to lower collet & master cylinders with reservoirs from CV!

Have to agree, when I saw that car at SEMA last year it was the first thing I noticed since I have those pedals in my racecar. Just wait 'til they have to swap a master cylinder out and the fluid is dripping all over that nice carpeting. The car, otherwise, is freakin' sweet but that is just a last-minute, slap-it-in-there looking setup and they should have boxed the floor in so the masters were accessible from outside.

Back on topic with that set, I can say that they are well designed for heel-toe work - note the spacing between the gas and brake v. brake and clutch, quite nice for blipping throttle for downshifts going into the corners, etc. Here is mine, note they are gold anodize as they were one of the first sets they sold, they are black now as a standard. You have a lot of fab in your car so fabbing the floor a bit to work with these and move the masters exterior would not be unreasonable. They are technically floor mounted but using the master mount location thru a boxed section would add extra rigidity as well.

Don't have the best shots of them here at my work computer but one that shows the wheel really closely you can see how well spaced the brake and gas pedal are - you may note it is better to have driving shoes on cuz the typical tennis shoe can be wide enough to clip the edge of the brake pedal when flooring it into straights.

To those who have driven with a floor mounted gas pedal, does it feel okay/normal?

I prefer the floor mount. But i have been driving floor mount forever. Mostly European cars.

to be totally honest, I really don't notice any real difference between floor mounted and firewall mounted. All of my DD stuff is always firewall mounted minus the Porsches that I have owned and the race car is clearly floor mounted but I have to say I never find myself thinking "wow these pedals feel weird" :)

I would imagine you would certainly feel a difference if you had a lot of travel in the pedals but if you have enough travel to notice whether your ankle is bending forward (floor mount) or backward (firewall mount) then you have done something wrong IMO.

I considered a floor mounted setup as well. I'm not a fan of the stock pedal assembly + lokar throttle postion. It makes heel toe shifting difficult, and for people with big feet like me, the pedal is too close to the brake...

The Tilton assembly sure is trick looking. I can't afford to lose any legroom unfortunately. I'm 6'5"...

The more you guys post, the more I think I need to drop by next time I'm up in Oxnard and we can take a look at my car and discuss its future :thumbsup:
