Dale Jr's Orange 2nd gen
Was there ever a story done on this car in one of our favorite mags?
Curious about the build. Besides what DSE has on their website. More details desired. |
I think I seen it in Hot Rod a couple years ago.
|
Yeah it was in Hot Rod...read it at my dad's since I don't get that book anymore...have no idea what month/year that was though! I know - BIG help I am!!
Do a search on HR's site, they may have it online now? |
December of '07. I have it right here. What would you like to know?
It's orange, has tires (four), it has some lights and a motor. Glad I could help.  Seriously, I do have the article right here. I would be happy to relay any specific info in it. Other than the article and DSE web site I know nothing more about it. |

The article only says this "..Sherwin Williams provided it's Planet Color paint for Juniors Camaro. It's a three stage system with an orange base, then a metalflake/pearl coat, then a clear coat...Kyle Tucker calls it Home Depot Orange.....the engine compartment and trunk are finished in Planet Color Cup Grey."
Sorry there is not a specific paint code or name. That is all they say about the color. |
I remember Kyle saying he doesn't even know the paint code (but I could be wrong) as Jr provided the paint. Top Secret I guess??

Color
It does seem to darken with diminished light. It looks similar to a PPG Vibrance color or the HOK Tangelo. I plan on doing my car in HOK Tangelo but would consider that color if I knew what the heck it was!

The color really pops with the eye. Went with Kyle for a ride in the country and people about broke their necks looking at the car as we went by. The color is a real popper in daylight. Smooth car also.
|
I would love to see it in person. Did you have a chance to drive it? If it drives half as good as it looks it should be a great driver.

This might sound like a wild idea, but why don't you see if you can get ahold of Jr. and ask him what the color is? With the power of the net and a little luck, I'd bet you could get a direct answer from him. Good Luck!! Paul |
Really??

I think if you take some red & yellow paint and pour them togather you will get the orange color you want.Let us know how that works out.

The car was in the December 07' issue of Hot Rod Magazine and was one of the top ten cars in HRM for that year. As far as color, Sherwin Williams did supply the paint and the sticker did say Home Depot Orange. The metallic was heavy so I believe it was reduced to tone it down a little. The clear was not SW though. I think the clear was Southern Polyurethane.
The car was nice, pretty basic, really had a nice look. Really surprised he hasn't swapped engines by now. LS9 would be a great swap. He doesn't drive the car much but heard that it's one of he favorites. |
I thought the color looked quite a bit different in person - out in the sun - than I expected from the pictures. You can't really see the metallic in the pics.
There are a lot of little details on this car that I find myself going back to look at in the build pics. |
I was told it was a special mix SW did for Jr.
I would really like to know what it is also. Tonny |

Wow Love it great looking Street Machine
 |
Thanks Scott. Thought since so many liked the car, me included, I would throw a few shots of the car that I took when we went for a ride. Awesome driving and very striking orange when you first look at it. Real head jerker. The eyes just gravitate to it, not a color you see alot, when u do it really stands out.

Great job out of you guys Stuart. The single reason i want my car painted orange was due to this car. Appreciate you chiming in with pics.

awesome car.. ive looked at the fab work countless times on the DSE page. there is one thing about that car that irritates me.. and thats the aircleaner box... i mean it could be a cool air, true cowl induction piece.. but then somone, for the sake of pretty... goes and puts holes in it so the engine can breathe nice hot air instead.... :fluffy:
other than that its an awesome car:thumbsup: |
