I got it. We just upgraded to 2010. It has some pretty cool stuff, but I havn't used the validation process yet. I need more time to "play".

I picked the right one - but I have no idea why.... it just looked to be simple and the gusset extended to the leading edges...
It might also be a "learned trait" from having seen other things made with this type of bracket. So it could be just a familiarity with the style. I was very impressed with the way Solid Works does this... I have no reason to use that product - but it sure is impressive! |
so I picked the right one, but I am sorta cheating having been a structural engineer for 10 yrs now :_paranoid I get to work with much more advanced modeling codes but looks like SolidWorks is getting some nice capability, just depends on how accurate it is at predicting ;)
Greg - the fact that the support went all the way to the edges is actually a good reason to select have selected it, so you actually do have an idea as to why you picked it. And theoretically the more fasteners the better so SW would predict 6 fasteners even better, tho' reality will show there is a limit to the value of additional fasteners. Really there is no wrong answer since they all had positive safety factor :D 'course I could nit-pick the design and say it really doesn't have to go to the leading edge, I could save weight, optimize based on stress, etc and my bracket would look like none of the above, but I suspected what they were getting at which was screw the weight and efficiency and pick the best for load carrying capability. So I guess the correct answer for overall best performance might be none of the above :lol: |

I picked the wrong one. So techies if the double web, four hole supports ran the full length, it would be stronger, would it not?

I failed to notice the material was an 1/8 thicker in the single web vs.the double web. Which is stronger if the were the same thickness. That's the question.

Got it right as well. helps to have a little engineering background. solidworks is a cool deal. I wish I had time to learn more
