Empty Nest back at Barrett

It looks like Frank's Empty Nest will be back at Barrett.

Interesting to see if it brings more. I think that cars was worth a lot more. Perhaps the new owner thinks he'll make a profit.

70rs 01-16-2010 04:55 PM

that is one I will be watching for. Do you know the time it goes over the block? Or the lot number?

Roger M 01-16-2010 05:10 PM

Lot 1239

tgvettes 01-16-2010 05:56 PM

That is a car that I would love to have.
I hope I get to see it next weekend.

I get the idea that Barrett Jackson just held onto the car after the new owner was not able to get it thru emissions. Not all that uncommon for auctions to pay the seller and have the buyer not end up taking the car for one reason or another. If the auction company owns the car you can bet it runs in the best possible time slot.

X2 i agree,
funny i have a buddy with a car here this year and he is LESS THan impressed with the process!!!

ironworks 01-16-2010 08:15 PM

I thought it was funny it got a better time slot on round 2. Gotta love BJ

Vegas69 01-16-2010 08:37 PM

Franks my boy but that car just doesn't bling going across the block. White is not an ideal color for those lights. I don't think it will go for much more.

GregWeld 01-16-2010 09:00 PM

If you remember - this car could NOT be sold in Nevada (the Vegas auction) because it couldn't clear Nevada SMOG... so the buyer couldn't take the car - and BJ worked a deal with Frank and everybody went away happy.

1239 is a good Saturday number - my old Vette is 1351 so running a bit later...

Here's my thoughts on this auction -- while the economy has improved - there seems to be a greater number of even better cars available.. Some real serious cars are going begging on the market. My old Vette is a "normal car" - that should ordinarily sell without a hitch for good money. But it's also going against about 6 other 67 red Vettes -- so the competition is kinda like houses right now - theres LOTS of them so buyers can be choosey.

Just look at how many nice cars have been offered for sale right here in the last month!

Actually that really shows how things must work. Probably not that funny considering how many people have lost a fortune under there structure. If emptynest was not worth a saturday spot before at vegas. Seems funny that it is worth a saturday spot at scottsdale.

It's not really funny, but it's no surprise to anyone that knows how things work there. It's nepotism at its very core.

When you're the boss or own the company, you call the shots and move things around in your favor. Pretty simple really.

I am not defending BJ - far from it - but "lost a fortune under their structure"? No one is forced to put their car in a no-reserve auction. I don't have any sympathy for anyone who "loses money" there. It's gambling plain and simple.

I agree.

Also;

If the Nevada smog thing is the reason it didn't sell the first time. So out of the thousands of cars BJ have sold, they never sold an old car to a person living in Nevada before?

tgvettes 01-17-2010 07:02 AM

What's so different with Nevada Smog? We have at least a few heavily built pro touring cars on here that are in Nevada.

Tonny

ProdigyCustoms 01-17-2010 07:34 AM

Actualy , you guys are wrong, They DID NOT give it a better time slot which stunned me. My friend has a few prime time cars and EmptyNest is a few hours before Prime Time. I am guessing 2 to 4 PM pacific time. I would have thought this thing would get THE number since it is their money.

At Vegas it ran PRIME TIME, best slot it could have gotten.

Barrett Jackson has been comendable through the entire process including paying me for the car when they made a mistake about Nevada emissions and NOT burning a kiiller number on themselves to run it this weekend.

I am very impressed they bought it, did not take THE Prime Time number, and gave those numbers to oters.

I truely hope they hit a home run on it. They never responded to my offer to promote the car, so I will be watching from the cheap seats at home

Long story short it had to have a original for that year motor complete with smog system for that year. Some of that was missing, LOL!

It ran on THE Prime Time number on Saturday agas, 6PM Saturday at Vegas, 6PM is good as it gets

II Much ran Friday

Gotta give credit were credit is due, they could have burned a Prime Time number on it for this auction with ease

wiedemab 01-17-2010 08:20 AM

Dumb question Frank, but weren't there a bunch of other cars that would have been in the same boat as Empty Nest?

How did they handles those - ie: II Much?

ProdigyCustoms 01-17-2010 08:59 AM

It only pertained to cars that were sold to Nevada residents. And as I understand specifcally too that county maybe. Nevada goes all the way back to 1968 for emmision, most states only go to 1975. It failed on the cisual, not the sniffer, they never got that far.

So there were only 2 cars that fell in that catagory oif being old enough, modified enough, and sold to residents in the affected area. Other cars sold to area residents, but were either original or out of affected range.. I have no idea what happened to the other car or what that car even was.

All I know is they offered to either pay me off or I could keep it and get a smoking Saturday number for Scottsdale. There was no option to just keep it, and I was happy with the price anyway. So I said, pay me.

Good choice Frank -- a bird in the hand.... and never look back.

actually in this case, it was a "bird" out of hand...haha

GregWeld 01-18-2010 06:28 PM

Oh -- Good one Bill!!

Selling cars is like buying or selling stocks -- if you buy a stock - it goes down the next day -- if you buy a car - someone offers you one that's twice as nice for half the price the next day... If you Sell -- the stock goes up the next day -- and if you sell a car - a buddy says "heck - I'd have given you twice that but didn't know you wanted to sell"...

No doubt John -- but it's still funny.

What kind of crap are you trying to spread Weld?

My daddy always taught me - spread it wide and deep.

Hey Todd -- forget coming over to BJ - RAINING AND COLD

Not only did they not burn a prime time spot on themselves, it looks like it won't even make the TV coverage. They are showing results on the website for number 1216 already, which is at least a 10 minute delay, EmptyNest is 1239 and they do not start TV coverage for another hour. Maybe it is a good thing I don't have to watch, LOL!

I comend them for NOT burning that Primetime spot, but think it is STUPID to not even get it during TV coverage.

I got a call last night from Bret (Air Ride) he said I need to get out there and clean it up, it was filthy!

zbugger 01-23-2010 11:09 AM

Show started and they're were at 1235.1, so unless they put a commercial over it....

70rs 01-23-2010 11:15 AM

It is at commercial right now. One car....ten ads......two cars......20 ads......I am really not impressed with the coverage this year. Speed over sold the hell out of the airtime. Maybe with any luck the ratings will be down and next year there will be longer runs between commercials. But I doubt it.

EDIT: Now it is on stage behind a charity mustang (Hurst/pace car) . I bet it goes to commercial RIGHT before it gets on the block! AAARRGGGHHHH! These guys suck!

I would almost guarantee it................very disappointing how often they cut away for commercials this year.

Jody

camcojb 01-23-2010 11:33 AM

well, we called that one. I hope there's plenty of backlash................ they're still at commercial.

camcojb 01-23-2010 11:35 AM

crap............. $60K, you did good Frank!
