New artist/builder

Hi everyone,
My name is Tavis Highlander and I've been roaming around here for awhile, but have just now made my first post. I'm mainly introducing myself as an artist here since my personal project is a '53 Willys Wagon (not exactly an autocross machine). You might have seen it in the March 2010 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. It has a Mopar Performance 6.1L Hemi backed up by a Mopar Performance Viper T-56. As far as my art and design work goes, I draw up crazy stuff for some well known guys. Steve Strope has been using my services for nearly three years now, Tom at Nelson Racing Engines has also had me illustrate several upcoming super car builds, and Hot Rod Magazine has called on me to draw up several project and marketing cars over the past few years. I also drew up Joe Coy's 65 GTO that won the 2009 GM Design award at SEMA for "Best Midsize Car." I also know my way around SolidWorks, Rhino3D, and some other CAD systems. If you'd like to get the inside scoop on what Pure Vision and NRE are up to you can ask me, but they might kill me if I say too much! Thanks, Tavis |
Very cool Willys! I read that article, nice and very unique to say the least.
Nice work on the renderings too. Welcome aboard! |
Tavis,
nice work, where did you go to school? Mark |

marks914, I majored in industrial design at Western Washington University and graduated in '07.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'll be down at the GNRS this weekend with Pure Vision. We'll be showing off two in progress builds. One is a really trick '68 Charger with '66 Charger interior details and the other is a '69 Mustang. The Mustang is being built for Anvil Auto and will feature some wicked inboard rocker-arm actuated coilovers front and rear. Be sure to stop by the Pure Vision booth and say hi in Pomona! |
Hey! Western is right up the road from me. LOL! Do you still reside in Wa?
|
Very nice work Tavis.
Tonny |
welcome, and beautiful work!
|
70rs, where in WA are you located? I'm near Longview right now, but I seem to bounce around the western half of the state. How many NW members of lat-g are there?

Welcome Travis, I've enjoyed seeing your work for quite a while. You have a very well rounded portfolio, loved the ID work and the abstract sculptures.

Awesome stuff!!

70rs, we'll have to meet up when the grayness dissipates. Jeez, that might be a little while here...
Ben, thanks for the compliments! I've seen all sorts of your nice work around. It's consistently high quality stuff. Are you/were you an industrial designer? I remember hearing about that at one point. |

Thanks! Yep, I worked for an ID consultancy for years before I went off on my own May 08. I loved doing that stuff too.
|
Thats cool, you guys make a living sketching hot rods. I have been sketching in the studios here at Chrysler for a bit now. I like working on future vehicles, but I really wish I could make a living doing the older stuff. Can't complain too much, I am getting paid to draw cars too.

Hey Tavis,
Nice stuff! Love to see other industrial designers creativity, we're a crazy type of artist! Steve Strope spoke highly of you when we chatted. Nice website! -J |
Mark, your work is awesome as well. When I have time, I work on concept cars. In fact, the first vehicle I had in a magazine was a Silverado concept that won a magazine contest back in 04.

Marks914, Have I met you at SEMA before? Which projects have you been on at Chrysler?
|
There are a few of us NW guys here.
