What ECM are you running?

We are working on a new product for late this year. Several ECM's to choose from, looking to see what the most common ECM everyone is running. All feedback appreciated! thanks

mine is the
Gen III LS1 99-07 PCM - Stream S-LS1-B

fits 99-07 trucks, Corvettes up to 04 and CTSV 04/5, Camaro/Firebird 99-02, and several other vehicles. This came with my Escalade LQ9.

factory OBDI LT1 PCM. Will be switching to the same one as Jody when I go to build the turbo system.

Mike --

My Nomad runs Accel Gen 7

I just installed a Fast XFI in a buddies 454 / Imagine Injection 8 stack - works GREAT - I like it better than my Accel Gen 7

I have a factory ECM for my LS6

Call Bob Ream at Imagine Injection in Phoenix - he tunes them all - and might have some "builder" insight... Or maybe Mike Norris also - he's familiar with all of 'em I think.

fast xfi... runs great.

Mike, I have a Holley Commander 950 for my ProCharged LT1.

tobenk 01-28-2010 11:21 PM

I'm putting a 5.3 in a 88 chevy and lookin for a ECM to run. Been lookin at the Big Stuff 3 cause it can control the trans to but it cost alot. I was hopin somebody would come out with one that wasnt so race based. The factory ECM works great but to tune it u have to buy some software like HP tuners, EFI live, etc to so it adds up to.

Hey Mike,

I run an XFI on the old school small block 427 and run a gm gen 3/4(speartech) on the new LS7.

Holley HP or Dominator EFI. Either ECU can do an LSx and the Dominator does LSx and 4L60/80e trans aswell. Touch screen is nice replacement for the laptop Due out in a month or two.

I've run/tuned everything from basic SDS systems years ago to Motec. They all have merits.

looking for a ECM. Heres a new idea. something reasonably priced would be different.

Blown353 02-11-2010 04:51 PM

Pantera 882 this time around. Not satisfied with Gen VII or XFI on other installs I've done and I prefer the Pantera over BS3.

Holley's new Dominator system looks intriguing on paper, I can't wait to play around with one first hand.

Here is what I posted on PT.com

I would say it really depends on the engine and trans combo.

For the LS1 and LS6 cars with a cable, a 2001-2002 Camaro works for me.

For LS1 and LS6 DBW, the a 2001-2004 Corvette.

For the later LS2, LS3 or LS7 DBW with a 4L60E, a 2006 GTO.

For a later LS2, LS3 or LS7 DBW with a manual, a 2007 Z06 Corvette for an NA car and for a FI car a 2009 LS3 Corvette.

For an LS2, LS3 or LS7 and a 6L80E it would be a 2008 G8 or a 2010 Camaro SS.

I personally try to keep away from the E67 and E40 ECM's.

A lot of different possiblities for sure.

Of course as far as aftermarket I prefer the FAST XFI and BS3. Looking at the Pantera to get a comparison as I have yet to use it and I should have one of the new Holley setups to work through before long. Actually trying to get to BG for a look through.

Hope that helps.

We are not building a new ecm. We are working on components that integrate with them. Ecm programming varies between makes so we are trying to find the most common to start with, and work from there

Are the 99-00 camaro ecms different from 01-02? I thought the 98 was the outlier of the group.

mdprovee 02-12-2010 04:02 PM

I have FAST XFI with my holley stealth ram and procharger.

Mike Norris 02-12-2010 04:21 PM

I want to say they are interchangeable and are a viable option. The 01-02 operating systems have a few extras that I like to have.

The 97-98 PCM's are the ones to keep away from if you can. They work great for stock engines with normal bolt-ons, but more aggressive cams and forced induction can be a pain.

MOTEC or Haltech are two of the brands I recommend, Hands down there great system's and in this field you get what you pay for.

The GM computers Like the E38 ECMs are really good ECM's. There fail safe, and plentiful.

I'm running an Accel gen 7 and for quite awhile it was running me instead of me running it. Almost smashed it with a hammer and was going to post it on youtube so others could see someone taking their frustrations out on one for a laugh.
Then I called and talked to Eli and he said he would make it right for me. After It got checked out and a new up to date board installed I now have a unit that works. They actually are trying to change the image they have gotten and the tech help is getting better when you call. Dave got right back to me when I called the other day and had the right answers and gave me further protocols if needed.

I am a lot happier camper and as long as the wideband helps me tune a lot easier and had better control of the A/F ratios I do believe I will have something I was promised to begin with, even though there is a lot easier stuff to work with out there now it is still a good unit to control what I am doing I am told.

There is going to be even bigger changes in the next 6 months to come out than what is available now from what I have heard thru the grapevine, but what it will be is going to be a surprise.
