West Coast (LA) RTTHs **April 2, 3, 4**
I posted this on PT also, just trying to see how many would be interested in being involved in an event similar to what we do in Pigeon Forge, except this one would be on the West Coast.
OK, everyone has asked for one. After my trip out I think we have found a location to have one hell of an event. Now is the time to step up and commit to being there if we can pull it off. No money needed but I do need to know if we are talking 10 guys or 100 cars. I am thinking sometime in late summer, probably August. If you can be there, participating to some degree, chime in to this thread. Please, chime in only if you can come, I don't need to hear that you would be there if you had a battery or something. We will have spectator areas too so all that is good, but I need a head count on who could come and spend $75 or $100 to make an event happen out here. |
I am in Bill. Let me know when you have more details.

I'm in.

Yea, we're going to see if we can make this happen. My management at the magazine seemed up to the idea.
El Toro would be a great spot. I picture a smaller "tight" autocross combined with a larger "fast" autocross. I've seen cars hit 90 mph at autocrosses there since there's so much room. Here's an example of a 2.2 MILE autocross they do there... yea, 2.2 FREAKING MILES! lol Maybe that will hush up the "35mph in a Walmart parking lot" crowd.. ;) http://www.ocracecraft.com/index.php...d=23&Itemid=55 http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4021/...ef539bb8_o.jpg |

El Toro is a great spot! It's big enough that last year when we took the Evolution school there were actually 3 different autocrosses set up and running at the same time. I'm sure it could be designed with a big course, a small course, and a very comfortable paddock. |

Guess my White 73TA may end up being a west coast queen for a season LOL (man has Chris Gonzola's got some work ahead of him to put that car right LOL) |
We will start wrenching on the 73TA as soon as it arrives @ the shop!! It will make a great West Coast car for you to have out here Albert.. We will make sure that we have it attending a few events, Goodguys Del Mar & Costa Mesa with West Coast RTTH!!

JCG Restoration & Customs is in with 2 cars!!

El Toro would be great. As long as we are not on the road, count us in.

If the track is available, I am looking at Sept. 3-5, Labor day is the 6th.

Sometime in August. Most likely to be right with our Super Chevy vendor test deal we do each year (since they are here anyways). |

Have you looked at any of the Road course tracks on the West Coast? Then you could do some drag racing, some road course and autocross. Just curious. I have been thinking we need a West coast event for a while. |

At El Toro we can have it all.. possibly even some sort of single car drag event or 0-100-0 deal. And the location is NICE. Surrounded by good areas where you don't have to worry about leaving your car out overnight. And a big enough autocross (like that video) is 95% as good as any road course. |
We will be there.
Hey what about the Seattle Area???? hahahha yea right.. i know |
I thought it was in Sept. Either way it sounds like tons of fun.
I just thought a West Coast Run Through the Hills would have some Hills to run through. Not slow motion races on the 405..... |
I'm in.
|
Is this in Socal?? Sounds really cool for sure.
|
Do Hot August Nights Reno then head up to Thunderhill for the track day. Great 3 mile track owned by SCCA..

Portland Internation Raceway, is a road course, a drag strip and they have room for an Autocross. They have autocross events there but not sure if its usually clubs that hold them or if its the track. They also have a motorcross area.

I'm in for late summer- what are tech requirments- is a cage needed?-
Chris |
I'm new to all of this, how do I go about making sure my car can participate in these events? What are the vehicle requirements to run an autox or a road course?
|
Bill --
Have battery charger -- will travel. Will work for laughs. Charley said he'd loan me the $100 so I'm in for WATCHING or WORKING. :lateral:  :woot: |
Update! We are working through some issues, mostly insurance for the event, it is extremely expensive, but we will get there. If all goes well, we will have not one, but TWO El Toro events this year. More soon, I promise.
As far as car goes, we will have a tech team to be sure the car has good linkage for throttle, good brake pedal, battery strapped down, nothing loose in car or trunk, all lug nuts, no floor mats, just standard stuff. Must wear helmet, must have at least a lap belt, even though I prefer a 5 point. This is Protouring, not race cars and I don't think most street cars are going to have a cage. I will be sure the track is slowed down so speeds will not be crazy. My thoughts are we build street cars we can race, not race cars with tags. I will also allow new camaros, mustangs, vettes to participate so if your pt car is not finished, get out that DD and come have fun. |
Sounds awesome Bill---let us know how we can help--looking forward to this!!
Doug |
I'm in, health allowing, even if I have to show up in a stretcher. From the ambulance to the drivers seat count me in...
|
Sounds fun Billyboy.

OK, this is not a formal announcement guys, but.........
Mark the weekend of April 2-4 on your calendar and start saving your change, you will probably need about $125 that weekend. Vendors reading this, mark your calendars also, we need your support. I will be sending out info to all those that have already inquired about a spot as soon as I have conformation back from the city. If you have extra coins, you may want to save them for Labor Day weekend also.....:captain: |
Early April is possible for me but Labor day is out.
Bill could you PM or email me the rules for the event? I want to make sure my car meets tech. I think all it needs now is a battery strap vs. the factory tab. Thanks! Jon |
We will have the rules up soon. But if your car is streetable and will pass California inspections you will not have any issues here. Factory tie down is fine, you would be suprised at the people that simply place a battery in the hole and wire it up, no strap, tab or anything.
|
Sounds formal enough that it's in my calendar already!
Now if I can just find Charley and borrow the fee.... |
Greg if I had your money I would burn mine.....
|
Exactly...........you rich fock.
|
Greg, if you are struggling, my place is only 5 minutes from the El Toro track, you can stay with us in one of the kids rooms---both of them have the jimmi arms and legs when they sleep though---
Sounds like we may have to have a BBQ party at my place if all of the boys are coming down for the event. Doug |
Charley -- You've got that 180 degrees out - like your distributor....
Todd -- I hear a customer calling... better get the phone. Doug -- I have the jimmi leg thing - so I drink TONIC (sans the gin) every night and that cures it. Seriously. Thanks for the room offer - but I was planning on staying in Charley's multi-million dollar motorhome... Jody is bringing it down - not sure where Charley is staying. A BBQ would be "the best" though! Now we're talkin'! |
Guys, the registration for this event is on----just in case you didn't hear---
Doug |

Okay --- Got a link... or a clue... or....? I went to Muscle Rides and didn't find anything there... Try to be a bit more 'on top of things' will ya! I'm riding shotgun with Todd... |
Bring a change of pants.
