Damn, that makes me cringe. Hope it's true that the driver walked away.

LowchevyII 02-02-2010 07:52 PM

thats one hell of an oops

awr68 02-02-2010 08:12 PM

WOW! Hope there was only the driver in the car and that they really did walk away! :wow:

BBC71Nova 02-02-2010 08:19 PM

Had to be moving at a good clip to do this right, like 45+ mph?

GregWeld 02-02-2010 08:23 PM

I'd be sympathetic --- but it's obvious that this happened "in town" -- and the driver had to be hammering it pretty hard to dang near cut the car in half lengthwise....

I hope he/she "walked away" (doubtful without some hospital time) and learned something from it...

I sent them to Alex - maybe he'll learn something from the photos -- and not be involved in the real thing!

That appears to be a pretty stout steel pole. a lot of force over a small area=car cut in two. Speed may not have been all that high. There also appears to be snow/ice around so there may have been no effective braking, either.

GregWeld 02-02-2010 09:22 PM

Rob --

It's FLAT -- and if there is a traction issue, as in, lack of traction, then this person should have been going even SLOWER than they obviously were....??

No way that car gets that damaged at 30 or 40 mph??

rwhite692 02-02-2010 10:13 PM

I'm not defending anyone here Greg, gee whiz.

Was just pointing out that the difference between what a 5" round steel pole can sometimes do, and what a typical 12-14" diameter wood utility pole typically does, can sometimes be quite dramatic in terms of cutting effect, etc.

Spiffav8 02-02-2010 11:54 PM

Daaang! :wow:

deuce_454 02-03-2010 12:56 AM

it looks like the 10 camaro isnt real safe in a front impact.... i mean if it was going slow enough not to kill the driver it sustained way to much damnage for me to ever want to get in one... i mean is it even welded???

if the driver walked away I say the SS won.

E.rodz 02-04-2010 10:38 AM

maybe the throttle pedal was supplied by toyota lol.I hate it when this happens!looks to me like there was just a little to much speed through this little town.if you could have only had a cammera on the drivers face before impact.:wow:

Serpa69 02-04-2010 10:39 AM

The pole won

The damage is what makes it safe. The front is designed to crumple.
