Fairlane
I was going to build this Fairlane as a race car but changed my mind. I don't need two race cars. I wanted something different to drive to cruise nights and car shows to promote the shop. I have a 428 and a set of ported Edelbrock heads I took off the race car and a manual C-6.
This is what we started with http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...428cj/22-3.jpg I thought I was going to have to buy a new quarter but I spent an afternoon with the dent puller http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ty428cj/24.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...ty428cj/25.jpg Tied the front torque to the rear frame rail http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28cj/103-3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...428cj/97-1.jpg |
awesome!

We stripped the engine compartment and welded the shock towers like Shelby did on the early Mustangs and also did the Shelby drop.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...428cj/77-3.jpg Not needed holes were filled in the firewall http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...428cj/87-3.jpg Welds ground and than engine compartment epoxy primed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28cj/130-2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28cj/135-2.jpg |

It has been awhile since I did an update.
The roll bar has been epoxy primed http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...28cj/146-2.jpg I started the first of a lot of block sanding and priming on the quarters to make them straight http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/150.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/149.jpg I thought the bodywork was finished but I had a lot of small dents in the roof I found after block sanding http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/151.jpg |
Nice progress. It looks good.

looks like its going to be nice! You guys put epoxy down then filler over it? That's good, I see a lot of filler over metal these days lol.. One trick that i do is put down etch (on bare metal), epoxy, then a couple coats of urethane primer wet on wet, because the primer sands a lot easier then epoxy, and and you have more material on it so don't sand through as much when doing the mud work.. also its nice to have some primer on it to block right from the beginning:captain:

I had to move my car outside for awhile so I epoxy primed the quarters again before all the bodywork was finished. |
We had a little spare time so Brian welded up a few rust holes in the rear window channel and I did some more bodywork
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/152.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/153.jpg I should have it in prime again soon and than I can start the block sanding. |
what about your 6x9 spk. there is a pipe in the way.lol

We mounted it on the rotisserie so we can clean up the bottom and finish welding it.

I needed a little eye candy so I epoxy primed the back side of the deck lid and painted it SPI Red which is a pure red with no orange tint.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/186.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/187.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/188.jpg |
Looks great Rusty!
|
Oh Yah now thats red! I like it.
|
I did not like the way the spring hanger mounts so I had Brian add a couple of gussets.

Starting to mini tub
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/197.jpg The brace for the deck lid hinge attaches to the inner wheelhouse so Brian cut it off and welded it to the roll cage http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...Street/196.jpg |
Very nice!
