Congrats to the boys at Speedtech
I just read the Super Chevy suspension shoot out. I can't believe you out nosed the Roadster Shop Vette in the autocross with that boat anchor up front.
|
Very good.
Speed-Tech make some killer stuff. Saw some of it in person on Tony's car, 'KARMA'. Looks really nice.  |
Way to Go....A

I'm glad the issue is out, and we can talk openly about it. The car performed very well (cast iron anchor or not) and we are very happy to have been invited!
|
congrats

Great job.:hail: :hail: :hail:

Boat anchor up front and 20" wheels?
You go boys! |

WOW that is great news, we had no idea of the actual results, that RS Corvette was nasty and to edge it out, well take it. i still havent seen the issue!! |

totally different plans for this years car. |
Congrats Blake, Roger, and Tim!

Sweet!!! :hail:   :woot:

Their Camaro did very well.. cool car.
But, in fairness to the Corvette.. it had an issue with driver ergonomics. Namely Mary Pozzi could barely fit in it (no adjustable seats) and the pedal placement was "off". This kept her from showing the true potential of the car. Then again, it's a run what ya brung event and everyone was under the same rules. And yea, the Camaro did great considering it had never been tested and had that massive chunk of iron under the hood. |
i have come up with the planed changes for this year.
we are having a custom Cast Iron fuel tank made to off set the weight of the motor and give the car a 50/50 balance. i really think i'm on to something here....???? |

LOL Blake I think that could catch on! |
Well honestly......... why wouldn't it???? isn't is all about weight distribution??
or am i missing something :_paranoid |
I've actually thought about bias. I'm definitely not worried about removing weight behind teh centerline of the car.
|
That's what big batteries are for.... one over each wheel in the trunk...
|
Yeah congrats. Im saving my dollar as i write this for a new front end and hopefully rear

Or was it that I put in the problem with the 'Vette? It's so easy to misunderstood on the net. :) |

I have no idea what you are talking about ????? Puff Puff Pass zero Tolerance for BUD that makes you WISER |
Got my issue as well---great job Blake---I am a fan of course and really pleased to see you guys do so well--congrads on your success!! Looking forward to seeing you down here for the RTTH event.

Congrats! Guys!!!

There are no excuses in racing. You win or lose. :unibrow: I wouldn't of picked the Speedtech Camaro over that vette with 4 plug wires in the trunk prior. The RS boys should of put some sliders on that seat. I'm sure that will be changed very soon.

Lighten up the Camaro a bit and it would be even faster  And yea, it's the RS shop's fault for how the car was built from an egonomics standpoint, but I guess the important part is that it fits the owner. We had to shoehorn Mary into it. lol |
They're both winners in my book. I mean, how can you go wrong with either car?? They both look great, handle great and are true auto-x cars.
Congrats to Speed-Tech. |
Not to hi-jack this thread or take any credit away from the Speed tech crew, but Steve is not making excuses for the vette's performance, only stating the facts. I agree that this is a "run what ya brung" event. What we "brung" was a car that was completely dialed in from a suspension stand point, but was lacking on the interior. There were huge issues on the interior ergonomics that made it difficult for anyone to sit in the car. Unfortunately the interior was the one area of the car that we did not build, and it has caused the most problems. The interior is being completely re-done currently to correct this issue. We were able to pick up an additional 4" of length and lower the seat by 1.5" as well as adding in the much needed bolstering, all by building complete new seats. Due to time constraints, we could not get this completed before the event. We tried to put a bandage on the situation by installing a Cobra racing seat from another car which did give the much needed bolstering and slightly better seating position, but it still had an awkward driving position. The other big issue was with the floor mounted pedals designed for our customer's size 11 shoe. Mary told me that her much smaller foot was barely reaching the pedal pads with her toes. Its pretty hard to make a car perform when you can't reach the pedals, or sit correctly in it.
When I drove the car on the autocross after Mary was finished, I dropped almost 2 full seconds off of her time. Steve, is it possible for you to post the actual time with me driving the car now that the article is out? I am not making excuses either, but I think it was pretty obvious to anyone there that Mary was not pushing the corvette anywhere near its limits. The majority of that was due to the ergonomics and fitment in the car. Again, not to take anything away from the Speed Tech camaro as it definitely did perform great in all 3 areas! |
It's nice to see you guys are human like the rest of us. I agree that the drivers comfort level has everything to do with how fast you ultimately go. That's a huge part of being fast, making the car feel comfortable in your hands and getting the balance right. The ergonomics we're largely engineered by GM in the Camaro and custom in the Vette. Just another of the million little things that make the difference between a good and great car especially is such a custom build. I"m still impressed that you guys flog on that masterpiece. I'd be scared to death to drive it 9/10ths. I'm sure Mary will take her 2nd chance to drive it.

And none of this takes anything away from how well the Speed Tech Camaro did in the event. I'm sure next year everyone will keep in mind that car needs to fit our test driver. lol |
good job boys:hail:

and after the article we are stoked to get some real world tests with an aluminum LS6 and T-56- instead of the "boat anchor... That sounds totally WICKED in person! - that's the problem with magazines- that 396 with 3" exhaust is sweet- no substition :D -Chris |
