What this site is all about

Just another great example of what this site is all about...

Since I completed my restoration and joined the Lat-G community and started attending events, I've found something that really stands out a lot more than our cars, and that's the people you meet here and the friendships that are made. A few months ago I met Doug(DFRESH) on this website and then at a car show in Orange County. At the show, he immediately asked me to bring my car over and hang out with his friends and family. It was a great time and it really made the whole show for me. He's got an amazing 69 Pro-touring Camaro and he knows how the drive the hell out of it(watched him on the autocross), but what really stands out is just how damn friendly, positive, and fun he is to hang out with. Just last week we were talking on the phone about the upcoming El Toro event and the BBQ he's hosting at his place afterwards and how the whole day is just going to be a blast with everyone else who's going to be there. I also mentioned to him that I was thinking of purchasing a '73 Trans Am roller that I found up in north LA county. I've always wanted to build a track-focused car and a '73 TA is dear to my heart since I had one in college. Well, immediately, Doug says, "Hey, if you purchase that thing, let me know and I'll grab my truck and trailer and will drive up there and get it". That's a lot of driving and towing and he didn't even think twice about immediately offering. Well, I did end up purchasing the TA, and today we went up and got it and we just dropped it off in my garage a few hours ago. I tried to give him some money but of course he wouldn't take it. Thankfully I was at least able to give him a new MSD 6AL box I was selling on Ebay that he said he could use for his new engine.

Doug, thank you so much man. It was no small task to help me tow the car from northern LA down to San Diego. The gas, the traffic, the time off work, the wear and tear on your truck and trailer, everything. I totally appreciate it. I really do.

And thanks to all the other people on this site who, every day, help people like me with favors, or guidance, or whatever. I'm going to be buying a truck and trailer of my own soon and hopefully I can pass along this sort of favor and help the next guy like me. It's a spirit of enthusiasm and friendship that's very contagious.

Definitely a big family. The internet has allowed us to find all the odd balls just like ourselves. My smart ass has been busy tweaking every bolt, hose, fitting, hole, bracket, wiring harness, to get this car ready for some upcoming races. I'd go broke working on these things for a living. You ever wish you could just half ass something?

I have 2 perspectives on the way I see this site. Both personally and professionally. Professionally I can say that more then 75% of my customers over the past few years have been from this site, and All of the customers that I have gained from this site have been awesome to work with.

Personally I have gained a large handful friends through this site. I have been to shows all over the country and see a lot of people from this site. But I have also met people and become friends with them to the point either them or I would travel across the country together to hang out. I was going to go with Kennny Davis (KennyD )and Tracy Weaver (Recovery Room ) to Kind of the Hammers. I have been to Columbus with Garagedog65, Novanutcase, and HwyNova, SyborgTT, Cracin, Rushforth, Carter Hickman, Nvr2fst, McMic, and I'm sure there are many many more. Shoot Hwynova drove with me across country to Columbus. I have talked with so many of you at other events or when you drive through Bakersfield on your way to some where else and just want to look around for 10minutes while the family waits in the car for you like you just went into a drug house to pick up your next FIX. The friends a car guy like me can meet on here are some of the best friends a car guy could meet.

But in reality Alcoholics don't hang out with the sober, and drug addicts only hang drug addicts. So Car junkies pretty much only hang out with Car Junkies. It is funny when I go to dinner parties with my wife, she can always tell when I'm bored cause I'm scrolling through Lat-G on my phone.

It has been very nice meeting all my fellow addicts from all over the country.

... which brings me to my next point. internet addiction, and more specifically lat-g addiction. *cough*Greg*cough*

Do you make unsuccessful attempts to limit your daily lateral-g visits?
Do you lose track of time visiting lateral-g?
Do you feel anxious, irritable, or depressed when you cannot visit lateral-g?
When you are not on a computer to you frequently anticipate your next visit to lateral-g?
Has your productivity suffered because of lateral-g?

I have no reason to limit my daily visits -
I have three laptops - in three different locations... In front of my normal TV/Chair -- in the shop on the big table -- in the loft in front of my other favorite chair and TV....
No irritable bowl syndrome here...
I ALWAYS look forward to my next Lat-G visit!
I have no productivity issues - I retired 16 years ago (at 41)... Kids in college - house keeper - yard boys - pool boy.... a couple of hot rods to keep me "having to do something"....
I get up early and stay up late - gives me lots of time to "comment".

and besides, he can always quit if he wants to... he's not hooked... he's just not ready to quit yet... why would you think he needs to quit... he doesn't have a problem... why would you think he has a problem... :_paranoid

I had to get the internet on my phone so I could check on what was happening here! I'm like Rodger, when I'm out and bored I'm on here looking around. I've met some great people as well. Garage Dog 65 (Jim)and I talk a couple times a month usually and we are 6 hours apart. We have designed projects via e-mail and phone, it just doesn't get any cooler. Rodger was nice enough to hang around his shop late when my Dad and Uncle were traveling through Bakersfield to give them a tour. Oh and the wives were waiting in the car! Scott should be proud of what he started here. Those are just a couple examples of why this is a great community.

I'm also starting to judge the quality of my threads by how soon Greg posts!

I've decided to stay down in California for the Delmar event and will have my 73TA on the Optima Battery Booth so I'll look for you down there as well all things equal bud.
