Need Pics of Pro Touring 57 Chevys

I have a 57 Chevy project we just took and I need to load my customer up with pictures of killer 57s to get a better idea what he wants.

The project will have a very low stance, monster 20s in the rear, that look.

One car I am trying to get more info on is the silver / red interior roadster that was in the Eaton booth at SEMA. But also looking for pretty much all badd ass 57 cars and links. Exterior / interior pics.

My customer is a guitar player and has some wild ideas for the project that our out of the normal Pro Touring theme, but I am digging some of the ideas. One thing we are doing a generous amount of some really off the hook interior wood treatment using wood supplied by Paul Reed Guitars including custom matched wood faced gauges I am really excited about.

Thanks Jody, that is one I was looking for.

My favorite... and it didn't take 5 years and counting to build either, once KD and crew got ahold of it.

How bout Scott Sullivan's 57 from the early 90's. Even though it had 15 inch wheels I fell like it was cutting edge back then. It had a 5 speed nash with a Accel fuel injection set up. I would love to see more pics of it if anyone has any to share.

tuff57 03-28-2010 10:44 PM

Here's some pics of my fathers 57 project. It's all I really have since I lost 90% of my pictures when my old computer crashed. It's got an Art Morrison Chassie, Winters aluminum 9 inch rear, Currie aluminum center section, 4 link, stainless tank, Wilwood brakes:)

The Roadster Shop 57 'vert in the current issue of Super Chevy is really nice. Lot's of good ideas on it. I like the treatment on the exterior trim and also the front fenders have been cut short at the bottom and the rocker extended forward. It is a small change but looks great.

Frank-
The one you are talking about in the Eaton booth was built by Dutchman Motorsports out of Portland, Oregon. Although no recent pics on the site I posted a few I have. Owner is Todd - real nice guy. I dealt with them on my 57 and also my 55. If you have any questions about mine - let me know.

Thanks for the compliments.
We tried to do something outside the box for a '57 convertible... 150 trim instead of the standard Bel Air trim, matte silver instead of all the chrome, and tried to slim down the monstrous bumpers as much as possible.

Very nice, love the matte silver trim, really tones the bumpers down to not look so massive.

Aschle 03-31-2010 06:42 PM

Everyone has an opinion... I love that car, except for the bumpers  They are ugly I think, but hey, the car was not built for me

Not the prettiest 57 but I think I thrashed on mine a little more than most TriFive owners.

These are with my 18's and 19's so your customer can get some proportion ideas.

almost forgot this one, so I went in a little too hot, I had set the car up to understeer for the autocross, with a 115" wheel base and street tires (pilots) you can't get crap for lateral grip in a real tight autocross course and have enough room to calm down the slide so I had some big meat up front (275/40/R18) and I would run up to the corners, shut it down, rotate and punch it. But then the unexpected happened, they put this huge smooth loop in the middle of the course. The course designed has a thing against corvettes and the bigger cars and all of his courses were always really tight all the time. So I went in hot hopping to drift it, you can see how well that worked.

While it wasn't exactly done in a Pro-Touring style, my father built this 2-door post car about 10 years ago. It's got about 15k miles on it since then. :) It's definitely more of a sleeper, but it has a full aftermarket frame under it with all of the amenities (AC, Cruise, CD changer, etc).

Plus a LT-5 and a 6 speed.

How's the acceleration, ride and handling?

Thanx for the . It actually rides quite well, but I can't comment a lot on the handling as I've never done anything to push it other than a little fun on off-ramps or back roads. :)

The acceleration is great! Shifting the 6-speed is a little awkward as the shifter location is a bit low, but those LT5 engines are smooth and powerful. This one has a chambered exhaust on it too, so it's loses some of that 'sleeper' effect when it's going down the road. ;)

That's obviously a complicated and rarely done swap.

How's the reliability been for your Dad?

There have been some small annoyances with the LT5 since he got it running... There is an electrical control box under the plenum that died and had to be replaced, as well as an AC compressor that is under there as well. But otherwise, there have been no mechanical problems with the engine itself. And it is a fun car to drive. :)
