This just came out yesterday.......
GM’s Mustang fighter concept for Detroit to source engine from Corvette -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The folks over at Inside Line expect the GM’s muscle car concept scheduled to debut at the North American International Auto Show in January to source its engine from the Corvette. The Mustang fighter, expected to be a 2+2 coupe, is being called a Camaro by many, but some say the Chevelle name is more likely for the concept. In order to compete with the Mustang, the vehicle should get the Corvette engine but lack many of the other perks found in the Corvette that make it more expensive. |
Hey Hotwheels would you happen to have a link to the story?

sure bouncer, here ya go bud..... http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=108247

Yeah I have seen that, it looks pretty good IMO. It should be interesting to see if it goes into production and if the production car stays true to this concept.
Some of the rumors floating around are saying that there will not be a V6 version, only 5.7L HEMI's and 6.1L HEMI's. Some people are saying that it will be a 6.1L HEMI only specialty vehicle. I doubt those are rumors are true, but that is what a lot of people are saying. Also from what I have heard on various message boards (particularly posts by the man from Mars ;) ) the Camaro concept will be a mix of old and new, not straight out retro. David |
If you look at the Insideline articlue of the Challenger, it says 2009! I was hoping it be out a bit earlier then that!
It is a sweet car in concept though! Looks like it wouldn't change much for production either. Tim |

That's what I've heard too so I'm anxious as all hell to get a glimpse of it. I'll also be putting some cash into a CD or money market account so I'll have a deposit ready when I need one. Oh, and by the way, I don't care what that article says, it's not going to be a Chevelle. :_paranoid |
LOL the best line in the article was this:

I personally like the current "retro" trend in the automotive industry. I guess to each his own.

I think every continuing transformation of a vehicle should keep some design cues from the predecessors. That way, the heritage and personality of a car can continue and it can be recognized for what it is. It's like us... every year we look a different (mostly older at this point) but people can still identify us.
The new Camaro should look like a Camaro - just not exactly like any of the previous ones. Subtle design elements that tie it into the past are fine with me but I want a new looking Camaro, not something that looks like it fell out the '60s or 70s. Some new car designs have gone too far, like the '40s (PT Cruiser). Yuck! Too retro. :faint: That's the retro I can live without. We had cars like that once. If retro gets out of hand we'll be driving cars with big wooden spoked wheels with fake horses mounted to the front! |

2010 Mustang II? |
Derek: 2010 Mustang II --- GHIA.
 |
You Chevy guys need to worry about when the next Camaro comes out and what it will look like. I hope it looks better than what Chevy did with the SSR and the HHR. I for one like the new style of the current Mustang. I'll take a 2007 Shelby GT 500. :captain:

By the way....HHR is on pace for 120,000 units since June. That's 5000 more units than Chrysler sold of the PT Crusiser for ALL of last year. |
If the pics that leaked of the 09 camaro are real it's a pretty cool looking car.

'94 - 96 Caprice Wagon (see sig) last american full-frame, full-size, RWD, V8 wagon... don't know how I ever survived w/o a wagon before this one! 04-06 GTO - awesome sleeper, crazy fast "average" looking car 98-02 Trans Am & Camaro SS - great performance, and nice looking, & comfy all of the corvettes - Great performance, good looks '00-01 Silverado HD - I loved the nose on them, and they make awesome tow-rigs. IMHO, the only thing Ford has made recently that I've liked is the GT ($120K+) and the Marauder. Dodge hasn't made anything since 1971 that I like, and very few offshore brands have ANY appeal to me. |
Has everyone seen the concept for the 09 Camaro. Yes...the one that has GM pissed off because it was leaked. I like the look. Much like the Challenger.
More to come -or- better yet search the web -or - use this link. http://www.genmay.com/showthread.php?t=599107  |
