Whos camaro is this wrecking at Thunderhill?
tough break and pains me to see... :faint: |
So much for that original sheet metal huh? That looked like a pretty hard hit. Ouch!!
The car looks familiar but I can't place it. Maybe just saw it in a magazine ad? |
Man that's a bitc#.If it had been me I wouldn't have had enough ball's to post it on you tube.Maybe he just really wanted to build a new car.
|
ouch...my heart just sank for that guy
|
Double Ouch! That hurts, can't believe how calm he was after the crash... I kinda think swear words would still be coming out of my mouth.
|
I don't know who the owner is, but the windshield banner is Speed Merchants out of San Jose, likely semi local to that area... Poor guy :(

Yea, I've seen that car at speed merchant before. I think I had heard of that crash some time ago.
If I remember correctly it had a loooot of work done to it. |

That is very sad, looks like the rear slid out and he tapped the wall on the left then overcorrected into the wall on the right. Looks and sounded like a sweet car... |

Wow. That isn't fun. Yeah I remember seeing that at Goodies/Speed Merchants forever as well a couple years ago.
|
That looks a lot like Karl Chicca's car. The Speed Merchant logo kinda gives it away. It was a incredibly nice car. I saw it a couple times at Speed Merchant.

What a shame.. But I still say that tracking a car is WAY safer than driving with Joe Public on the highways. |
Well isn't that the reality of all this???? we all think it won't happen, but i guess it does.
it SUCKS!! glad the guy was ok |
Damn, that sucks. Tough break.:(

Yep, dropping a rear wheel off, especially in a corner, will end one of two ways.
1. Ass puckered and heart rate jump 2. Same as 1 including out of control slide. |
Just how I wrecked a 2000 mustang GT with the back left going off the road coming out of a corner, except it snapped back and forth about 3 times, then spun right nearly all the way around backwards. trees. ditch. totaled. lesson learned the hard way.
|
Is there anyway he could have prevented this? It didn't sound like he got out of it when he dipped his tired in the grass... I'm not sure if he knew his tire was on the grass or not. Do you get out of it and try to get back on track? Or do you continue on the run off area? Just not sure how to handle a situation like this...

It all depends, I would try and stabilize the throttle. But once it starts to slide, all bets are off. I lost traction accelerating out of a corner and instead of easing off the go pedal I tried to ride it until I caught traction. Big mistake, the car snapped when I left off. |

Always easy to back seat drive... but technically your never really supposed to 'snap' back on the track, but I don't think he really does that? Should he have kept going off track causing a spin? Maybe because clearly what he did, did not work. It seems like he did nothing to turn left to avoid the barrier but damn it was all so quick. I'd guess he was split second thinking mellow don't spin out oh oh barrier... Interested what the pros have to say. |
Can you post a different form of the pic? I cant see it on my PC.

Maintenance throttle can go a long way as well and respect for power, seems the driver was fond of the right pedal. |
In fact, if you watch the video and listen to the throttle, his tires started speaking to him, screaming for help before the apex of the turn, but instead of listening to them, he stayed in the throttle rather than easing out or applying a small amount of brake. You can hear the tires hopping when his right foot gets off the pedal and back on again and again. That car told him what was going to happen, he wasn't listening sadly. :(
That said, **** happens at the track. Seems like he was outdriving the tires, which many of us are guilty of. I prefer to outdrive my tires where there are no ditches, walls and plenty of run off. |

I've driven that track quite a few times..... I was suprised that this was the turn he lost it on. There are definitely a couple of other turns that are more technically difficult. As Jody stated, there is no wall on the left....only grass. It's the last turn before a big long straight..... the first thought I had was that he was really trying to carry alot of speed into that turn so he could haul ass down the straight.
What a shame.... |
OUUUCH, that hurts to watch,
almost sounds like his throttle stuck.... heres another bad one... |
His name is Carl Chica and he lives in the Bay Area, as far as I know he's been tracking the car for quite a few rears now I dont know when this wreck happened but he has had a glass clip on it for a some years.
