To that person who owned my car.
What would you say to that individual, that owned your car before you. After you got it home and stripped it?
1) Just because it's carpet, doesn't mean shag carpet goes in a car. 2) Galvanized steel and sheet metal screw doesn't make for a good long term repair. 3) That noise you hear in the back is not knocking from your home-made 1/4" flat steel ladder bar, it's from your rear end grinding metal. 4) The rust and scale in your car doesn't give it character it's from your galvanized patch panels that you cleverly installed. 5) Last but not least. the gas tank is nice and secure, doesn't mean it's okay to secure your relocated battery to it VIA 3" sheet-metal screws. |

1. You said rust in only one place and you've "been all over the car" ....you must be blind.
2. No, 3 out of 11 clips holding the heater box together is not adequate. 3. So, you did a FULL rebuild of the front suspension using dryrotted bushings? 4. The shifter arm shouldn't be the only thing holding the console in place. 5. When you replace the engine with one from a later era, you're not supposed to reuse the original timing cover/pointer on the newer balancer even though it will bolt on. Yes 5 degrees is a lot to miss TDC by. |
1. Bondo is not an appropriate substitute for welding.
2. OTOH, the lack of welds made it easy to take apart the shoddy repairs, so thanks for that. 3. Apparently, people have widely varying definitions of "ready for paint." 4. When you go to spray primer, for God's sake, remove all the trim first. It was a massive PITA to have to remove all that overspray from otherwise good stainless. 5. Also, good idea to mask off the inside of the car before you spray primer, too. Not that much of it was worth saving, but it's just the whole idea. |
And don't forget to remove the glass, trim, interior, lenses, urethane body parts, chrome,ENGINE and transmission BEFORE you take it to media blasting.....:faint:
It's amazing how much of the car will need to go in the trash if you don't. |

1. Fiberglass is for boats and corvettes. It doesn't strengthen bad welds either. 2. Tar is for streets. 3. An air chisel isn't always the best tool. 4. Those threaded holes in the floors are for seat belts. Don't weld patch panels over them. |

My 89 Iroc a few years ago:
1) No sir! A bungee cord is not just as good as a tranny mount. 2) No Sir! Orange extention cord does not make a good wiring harness for your headlights. 3) No Sir! White tub chalk does not make good T tops seals. 4) No Sir! An old gym sock does not work just as good as a airfilter on the TPI. But, What do you want for 500 bucks. :lol: |

-Duct tape on the backside of a rusty hole then covered with bondo is not a suitable way of repairing rust -The proper way to put on quarter skins is not butting them up to originals, tack welding every 4 inches, then banging in the seam with a hammer, and pouring in buckets of bondo -holes filled with bondo are not done correctly -a 6x6 piece of sheetmetal from a 89 Nissan does not qualify as a trunk drop down support -Wear a hood and look a what your welding -1/4" plate welded over the holes in the frame rails looks like crap -I'm sure there more |

1. A C clamp is not the proper way to hold on a cross member!
2. Great stuff foam is not the proper way to seal the quarter panels to the trunk drops! 3. If you're going to rivet galvanized sheet metal all over the old stuff at least cut the rust out! 4. Thanks for the rusted tools I found inside various panels! 5. What would possess you to put a double DIN FORD radio in a chevelle dash? 6. WHY IS THERE SO MUCH METRIC HARDWARE!!! |

Sheet aluminum patch panels on the floorboards covering the seat belt mounts. When I got the car the owner didn't even know the seat belts were in the card board box of "extra parts" he gave me. Fiberglass to shave the turn signals. Bondo anywhere and everywhere.... and a whole lot of other crap used to patch that I can't even identify. -Dave The more I think about this stuff the more I get pissed off. Oh well, I'm learning a lot because of the previous idiots "fixes". |
I'd like to thank my former owner for never driving my car and leaving it parked in Mom's garage for 15 years. :unibrow: She's finally living the life. haha

I was thinking "you guys should buy better cars to start with"..... :rofl: I just sold a 53,000 ORIGINAL OWNER So CAL 69 Camaro drop top.... didn't have an inch of any rust - or even the hint of it. Way cheaper to pay up for good stuff than spend a year in body jail. GREAT LAUGHS AT ALL THE "CRAP" THOUGH!! Seriously -- funny stuff. |

So here's a couple of things I'd have liked to have said when I bought the 37 Ford... (I knew what I was buying, but still....)
#1 - Why would you spend good money on paint and stick the body over a chassis held together with chewing gum? #2 - Brakes are a far more critical component than chrome. #3 - Dude! That's an exhaust leak - not a "mechanical header sound". #4 - A flip out black and white TV does not make up for that birds nest of wires. #5 - Yeah... it would overheat in BAKERSFIELD, CA even though it has an electric fan.... 10V's to the fan might be more of a drawback than you think. Ya think? #6 - That stud on the starter motor - might not be the best place to gang a half dozen accessories... unfused... #7 - Remember that "big cam"? OK I'll play:
- Brushed on primer is not a substitute for a vinyl top - Zap strapping the clutch to the floor board when you swap from manual to auto - Glueing a beer bottle cap to the dash - for what reason I"ll never know - thick layer of bondo overtop of rust in the 1/4's not a good way to repair rust. - see pic :lol: - bashing in the firewall with a hammer to make clearance for a larger distributor is not a great idea. |
I only drove 6 hours to come and look at the car, perhaps washing the 100+ piles of bird**** off it isnt too much to ask.
Aluminum foil is NOT a power steering cap. Contrary to your belief, skull and crossbone stickers all over the interior is NOT cool. |

The previous owner "restored" the car in 1983 and the materials of choice were definitely fiberglass, yellow wire, and epoxy to make up for the welder that must have been stolen from them. I'm working on fixing them as my skills, tool collection and budget allow. |
