Mustang FR500S at Sears Point
Link below to a fun video shot at Sears Point....turn up the volume and enjoy

would be good without the Stones - no better music than a V8 on the track IMO and it would be nice to hear the car more :)
That said, it is always fun having a car with left foot drive-ability and it always seems to push the guy in front of you enough to make a mistake - you know he was hell bent to not get passed when he overcooked the turn :unibrow: |
Another video without the sound

Sears is, hands down, my favorite track. Your video brings back good memories. Looks like you're getting around there pretty good running 55's. Your car looks strong coming out of the carousel and through the esses. Nothing quite like Turn 10 to get your attention. Have fun!

yeah, better, can hear when you are on or off the throttle. Take this as a piece of advice, not necessarily armchair quarterbacking: on the two 180 deg turns you are leaving a lot on the table by turning in way too soon. You want to stay out and do a later apex on those so you can shoot into the stretches that follow. I can hear the car is way off throttle when you go thru those without the music and visually I could see before that it was too inside and early.
Here is a vid I know of a guy that runs it and you can see the line I am talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlA3fyApSps Have you ran with an instructor? It can be a big help if you are not sure of a good line. You are pretty smooth at the wheel which is hard for many to do so you have that in your favor, but you are leaving a second or two just in those two turns I suspect. |
Enjoyed the vid; that cammer sounded nice Jack.

hey Jack, welcome to the site! Great car, but I think you're gonna need to get your new 69 Camaro out on the track when it's done..................... :unibrow:

There is almost always a single, fast line thru a turn - especially when you look at a turn as being from the time you enter it to the time you enter the next turn, not just the exit of the turn. Some guys with big power can use the throttle to make other lines work, but almost always the fastest line is the smooth line using momentum, not the go pedal, to get around it and make sure you exit fast, especially into stretches as in this case for both turns I mention, as 2mph out faster than everyone else means you can carry that 2mph extra the whole length of the next stretch. I would allow a pass on a tight turn into a straight to hit the straight right as I will pass you and leave you back a car length by the next turn carrying 2 more mph. Spec classes are where you can really see this work (like "Wreck" Miata) - watch the guy in front and he usually can enter the straights just a little faster and carry it all the way down, passing a couple guys or increasing his lead in those stretches, with only 2mph more than the others. It is better to learn that line, then detour only in W2W for position. If you can get out front tho' you want to know the fast line... |

When I listened to the audio of the car in the vid, the car has the power, but I can hear that Jack is way off power for a long time to make that turn with his driving style - you need to stay out a little bit... hard to describe but you really tuck in tight before the first of the 2 apexes so you are way off to get the car rotated. You need to apex that first from a bit further out. I know I can find an AIX vid somewhere to 'splain it better... A ha, got lucky and the first one I found had what I am talking about. Jack, watch your section of the vid as you enter the turn and watch where this car is when he enters, and listen to the throttle between the two apexes. this is how I would take that turn, and have to admit, I forgot that dual apex (been a LONG time for me to be on Sears... back when it was Sears :D ). Watching the in car on Jack's made it look like one big sweeper but then I started watching the AIX vids and remembered what that was like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWbeAzvAEtY Here are snapshots showing how much different the entry is. So while I agree I wouldn't swing out like the Porsches did, I was trying to make the point to move out and attack it differently. Finally had some time to dig out example links. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyxsXR4Nc7g once I get going I get watching vids and not working haha, here is another good one for showing the proper line thru that turn. I used to find the fastest guys on the track and then beg them to tow me around so I could see what they were doing... youtube makes it all the easier to find stuff! |
