Streetfighter Spoiler Opinion Poll
Ok guys,
Just looking for some opinions here on this style of rear spoiler especially or mainly for those cars like 1st gen camaros and E-body mopars (challenger and cudas for those that only know camaros...lol) that have a relatively flat rear decklid. Anonomyous poll--let's see what you guys think.... Thanks. |

Me likey...:D

I'm pushing Spectre Performance to come up with something similar to the one on the One Lap Camaro..
I think it's a great look for the right car. They are currently working on several designs and I'm pretty sure this is one of them. |
I went with "other". I like it especially on James car, but I prefer the stock spoiler, and dont think I would buy one. On James car the spoiler looks like it would provide a ton of down force and that may be just what he needs at high speed through a long corner. A subtle change to the stock spoiler might be the ticket, perhaps a knotch through the middle dropping it down a bit and third brake light in the back.

yeah I dunno, sadly anything that has potential for cool is ruined by the advance auto tuner crowd around these parts. Spoilers similar to these in look started showing up here shortly after the bookshelf fad starting running on the 4 door nissan sentra, etc....
I like the wide rear view mirror though... that just went on my to do list, the lower rear close out panel is also something i want to look into, that could be nice looking perhaps. thanx for posting the pix. |
I love it..... and i dont think it looks "tunerish" at all. More "race car".

<OPINION>
I think, Screw the Tuners! If you like it, it's your car, bolt the darn thing up and enjoy it. Only you know if it is for you. I personally think it would perform better than the stocker, and it's got a raw, "Performance First" look to it. Changes: Sort out the "Adjustable arms in the rear so they are perpendicular to the road like the ones you see on the track. Plus you might really want to adjust them. I don't see much adjustability to this design. All that said, I bought one for my car and it will be on it. Ty |
hmm my bad fella's, I was not saying it looked tunerish. I was trying to say I liked it on his car, and like most cool things the bolt on anything advance auto sales crowd around here were shifting from the bookshelf spoiler to "homemade hinge & sheetmetal" spoilers.

There is actually a ton of adjustability in the spoiler angle - although you have to change the length of the adjuster arms. The arms that we have on there right now are nearly fully "compressed" because this is where we are running for the time being and I didn't want a bunch of threads hanging sticking out. I can easily adjust the spoiler (as is, with these struts) to a more aggressive angle but don't feel that it's needed. By simply changing out the struts to 1" shorter version (or more) we can lay the spoiler down a bunch (it's actually surprising how adjustable it really is) but that's not a change I want to make randomly. One day (maybe this year) we'll take a day at the track and play with spoiler angles - first for speed and second for downforce. My personal opinon is that it's set up probably too agressively for mile shootouts and the Silver State Classic but I can't complain about how the car feels. With respect to spoilers like this in general - do what you want for your car. Only you know what you want to get out of it and what you're going to be happy with. |
On your car it looks right at home James and is obviously quite functional @ 160+ MPH,on a street-driven Camaro not so much and really clashes with the lines of the car,IMHO.
For a Camaro,it's hard to improve upon perfection with the factory spoiler but if I decided I wanted to do something different,I'd consider fabbing either a taller version based on the original or one that was more laid back that matched the contours of the car. I painted the edge of my decklid just to make the spoiler appear taller,I know it wasn't done this way at the factory but I don't care,it's my car and that's how I like it. |
I say yes but go with a carbon...
kinda like this http://i37.tinypic.com/34fyvj5.jpg http://i33.tinypic.com/24vsnbl.jpg |

I really like the front
The rear is cool and if you actually need the downforce it's the functional way to go. If the car has a track look to it I say yes. If the car is a track car I say yes. If it is a sweet looking street build I say a version of the factory style spoiler on the rear looks the cleanest.

Dane, was yours purchased or built? It's a nice looking piece with good functional details.
|
I love it, talking about the function. I don't see to many venues except the Silver State classic where it's even worth mentioning. Then I can't imagine it making much difference. I can't imagine needing more rear down force when the front end is like a parachute on these things anyway. Racey as hell, but we aren't going 150 mph. At least I'm not!
|
I dig it, as long as the rest of the car is in sync with that look...

The stock spoilers sufficient though, but in track conditions, more aero is never a bad thing. Cal speedway and Chuckwalla coming up |
Really, you would know.

I say do what you like too. It has to make you happy.
I like those spoilers, everyone has the stock one. I went a little different way, I have a 69 Trans Am spoliler to be a little different. |
Old thread.....
Jake Parrott and I made 13 of those spoilers (including James' spoiler). For the amount of hand finishing that went into the long, broad surfaces, the profit wasn't to my liking. The compound curvature of the deck lid didn't help on the labor side. So they ended up as a truly limited edition piece. They really do offer a ton of adjustability as well as an aggressive look. I can't imagine my car without that spoiler. An we're thrilled that one unit contributed to the One Lap Camaro legend. Maybe I'll make more.... |
Wow - this is an old thread and a blast from the past.
The Street Fighter spoiler was an awesome piece and while not for everyone has proven it's worth on the OLC over the past five years. It's going to be strange running without it but four bolts and it's back. Personally I hope that there aren't any more made but can appreciate that there is a market for them. There's definitely some opportunity for improvement and maybe I'll go down that road some day myself. Jake and Steve - thanks! |
