SS emblems, feedback on colors

Here's a couple of pics of the new SS emblems on Don's car. We used a silver background around the letters. We are thinking of offering silver, black, and maybe a charcoal color. I don't have pics with the black, but it made the emblem look like the stock one in that color (my opinion) and lost a lot of the billet look. Raw machined aluminum looked good too with the letters polished, but you could still see the machining marks around the letters.

Any thoughts on colors would be appreciated.

I like the SS emblem with the silver back ground and i'd have to see what it'd look like with the other colors you mentioned...To me I think a darker color behind the SS would look a little better. I like the sound of the charcoal background coloring!

Looking good!

As for the colors, I think a lot of it would depend on the color of the car, but I like the idea of the raw, machined look. Can we get a pic from a 3/4 angle, Jody?

I like that as it is with polished letters. I would stay away from paint just to make sure its really set apart from the stock ones. But I could see adding color to match the car and it could look cool.
Cant wait til those are ready!

Oops, should have been more clear. I want the letters polished, but the surround would look cool with a raw, machined surface - just like the pics Jody posted.

I think I too would be prone to paint the background the body color of my car. The polished letters look great.

It looks good,it will IMO look best with a bunch of other billet stuff to tie it all in.

I think from a marketing standpoint, I would offer natural or polished and let the buyer choose from there what they want to do.

Suggestion

Jody, I think a brushed version (of course ;) ) would look really cool...

What's the turnaround time on one of these emblems? I need one made for my rear bumper on my Chevelle. I can send my current emblem as reference. I was thinking of doing it in the new style SS though. I can provide my own CAD file. It'd just need to be resized and converted for machining.

Thanks!
Kris

I am not sure the guy we have doing the cnc work will be receptive to one-off stuff. He generally requires us to order in quantity, but I can check. There is an online machining place here that may be able to quote you off your drawings:

They look great as is. Go for it! I would also like to see a modern rendition of the emblem. Maybe get John McBride to draw up some ideas.

Steve1968LS2 02-11-2005 07:07 PM

I think I want that car.. that shade of blue just does it for me.. :)

As for the SS emblems.. I like them as they are. I would offer them this way and with a charcoal grey background. If someone wanted to paint them whatever color they could do that on thier own.

Next up.. front fender engine numbers

350
346
383
427
etc.

:)

How about a restyled door handle. Something that would bolt in factory like but has been tweeked in the looks department?

God, the list is endless isn't it??

Steve, I saw a Camaro in a mag recently with PT Cruser door handles which had a retro twist to the old GM handles. I don't know what it took to put them on though.

Im thinking of a billet design that would use the factory mounting point and be a bolt in deal so you dont have to screw up your factory metal.. something with an updated & clean look..

Best of all they would not only work on all three years of f-bods but on other GM cars as well..

will69camaro 02-16-2005 10:33 AM

I'll have to check here at school but i might be able to get access to our CNC machine here and if i can then i'll check and see if i can make the SS for you kris.
