rat rodders?
anyone else on here get the itch for one of these yet? after i finished the dart i was bored as hell going in the garage with nothing to cut up or weld so i got a little project going. im doing a 36 ford pick up. picked up a 1st gen dodge ram cummins for motor and got an f350 rear with 10 lug adapters so i can put the big 22.5" wheels on the back. gonna use the drivetrain from the 89 dodge ram. plan to z-bar the frame so its sitting right on the ground. heres a few pics of what i got so far, and this entire project will all be done under 5k
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../flames024.jpg first day it was home had to cut it up haha http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../flames029.jpg the donor http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../ratrod017.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../ratrod016.jpg the rear end is 8'3" wide barely gets in the garage http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../ratrod003.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../ratrod004.jpg my hood orniment i made haha http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1.../ratrod015.jpg |

I had the urge for one but I am not going the rusted route. More of a traditional mid sixties theme for me. All rust fixed, channeled 4.5 inches chopped 4.5 inches, custom frame stepped 14 inches in rear and pie cut at firewall to enhance rake and a cut down 32 grill. Running a 327 with fuelie heads and 3x2 carb set up thru a manual trans into a ford 9 inch.
Hoping to have it on the road by the end of the year. Working on it slowly in the corner of one of the garages. http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...ies/modela.jpg |
twinsting, thats coming out great. the clean body is never a bad thing, shows you put some time in it. i would of liked to do a good body but i'm doing this one all myself and am certainly no body man so i took the easy way out with rust and bad body lines haha.

here's mine 26 rpu powered bye a quad four and t-5
i like to consider it more of a traditional hot rod then a rat rod http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...2/PICT1535.jpg |
I absolutely LOVE this "movement" and have toyed with turning the 37 Ford into a traditional - leaning towards Rat...
The last few years - I've spent lots of time at the LA Roadster show and others - trying to learn what makes one kooler than the other. I'm not sure I have the "mindset" to do the job. I think these actually take a HUGE amount of effort and a real eye for what it is. Billet can be bought from a catalog - these however - take some real effort and imagination. :hail: :hail:  |

There was a truck last year at Del Mar with a similar build style to what you are doing. It was an early 30s truck cab on a heavily Z'd frame, dually rears, hiboy style, Powerstroke in it with a stick, and a wicked dropped axle front suspension. It was a riot in the autocross. I'll see if I can dig up any pics of it for you. You are on the right track.

Pretty cool truck there! Love the radiatior in the back look.
Just don't try to take it to any "traditional" shows with the big wheels, they won't let you in! ask me how I know! LoL! |

nice trucks! just got the frame about all done this week, fitting the motor and making mounts is next.

Cool! My next door neighbor has a 41 Plymouth pickup he just put together. You wouldn't happen to have a Plymouth tailgate would you, or know where one is at? |

the plain one might work for him ? tell him to be sure to check the width, the plymouth might be narrower. |
Thanks, il let him know. Didn't see one that says ply, but I'll forward the info on to him.
