I have a 69 camaro w/an aftermarket richmond 12 bolt and 4 link suspension. I am not interested in a mini tub and would like to put a 285 or 295 tire on the car. Boze wheels says a 18x10 with a 295 40 17 should fit?
I know a 17x9.5 w/a 5.5 back works because I have a set on one of my cars now. I need a bit bigger tire....any thoughts? |

i have 20x10 w285/30/20 on my 69. very very tight. 6inch back spacing. you have to watch for inner fender rubbing. and trim fender lips. mine will rub sometime when i turn in going up a hill and suspension will compress. i would go 9.5 probably if i had to do it again or mini tub it. just watch out.

Frank, I'm running an 18x10 5.75" BS stock wells with 275-40-18 tire. The lips on the 1/4's are rolled and trimmed. It's a very tight fit as is, but my car sits quite low.
I have seen a few guys run 285's and 295's but I think you would have to have the back end sitting a bit higher, sprung stiffer and wheel backspacing has to nailed. |
275-285 is the most we can recommend with some trimming involved.

Here is my 69 with 285-30-20 on 20x10, b/s 5.625 and rolled outer fender lip.

Thanks for the help..
Sounds like an 18x9.5 w/a 5.5 back space might do the trick and stay w/a 275 tire. |
I too would like to fit a 295 on a 10" wide rim, if one was replacing both quarters could they be pumped out enough to clear, perhaps with some inner tub massaging at the same time. Any ideas?

I have 18x10s with 275's and I will rub sometimes on real hard transitions. When we installed the new quarters and outer wheelhouses, we trimmed them back as much as possible and welded them together, so my lip is about 1/4" wide.
I don't see how anyone could run much more tire than that without consequences or compromises. I only have a 2" drop spring in back (DSE). I wish I would've mini-tubbed it back then, but may do so when I install a 4 link someday. |
i have an 18x10 with 5.75 inches back spacing and a 295. it fit, but barely, and i had to trim the hell out of the fender. i couldn't get the stance i wanted though, so i just went ahead and mini-tubbed the car and am now in the process of getting the wheels widened and rear end narrowed to accommodate a 315 or so.
just tub it or run a 275. |
I also run a 18x10 rear on my '69 with 5.625" b/s and a 275/40 tire and my car eats that up whole,could have easily run a 285 or larger...but then again,my car's a freak.:willy:
I've put the 18x10 (5.75" b/s) & 305/35's off of my Chevelle and those fit with clearance...weird car I tell ya. |

are your fenders rolled or pulled at all?? a friend of mine with a 69 pulled his fenders slightly and he managed to fit a 295 at a pretty low stance, and he auto crosses frequently with little if any rubbing |
