EBMC Firebird

Just wanted to let you guys know about one of our latest projects were doing for a customer. Its a 69 firebird with some sentimentel history for the owner Tim. Tim's grandmother was the original owner of this car and referred to it as "precious" for some 40 years. Tim got to drive it on rare occasions as a teenager (as you can see in one of the pics from the 80's) and when his grandmother passed away in 2009, he inherited it. He came to us with a pretty clear vision of what he wanted. He made it clear he didn't want to lose the look of the car as this is to be a tribute to his grandmother, but wanted a mild pro touring build. We have come up with a combo I think is going to acheive what he's after and would make grandma proud! when we dissasembled the car, it was clear this was probably one of the most solid original cars we have seen in some time. It had a couple of rust spots, but was all original down to the factory AM radio. We have put together a stroker 400 with Edelbrock heads and Fast fuel injection. Installing a TKO 600 and a narrowed 12 bolt with Pontiac style 18" Wheel Vintiques.A combination of SPC, Hotchkis, wilwood and Edelbrock will be used in the suspension dept. Heres a few pics with more updates to come!

Great story. Looks like a sweet project Steve.

Cool, I'm anxious to see it with those 18" Rally's on there. Keep us updated!
|
Love the back story! She gave it to the right person....that's for sure!
|
Nice build. I guess a love of cars runs in the family.
|
Yeah it is a fun project to be involved with. The whole family has been exchanging e-mails and pictures and are all really exited about it. The ironic thing is MY grandmother owned a 68 firebird 400 she bought slightly used in 1969. She drove it until the late 80's, till she couldn't drive anymore, It was as original and clean as this one. She sold it for 2k! At the time, I just didn't have the money and i knew I would regret not scraping it together somehow, and boy was I right. So this is a very special project for me as well.

that is a going to be a sweet car Steve! Great story too.

Making good progress. Finished most of the brake plumbing, Installed narrowed 12 bolt Moser (3.73's) and set up the bellhousing and hydraulic throwout bearing. We start on the exhaust system today and begin mapping out the fuel system.

Started it up yesterday and so far pleased with the FAST EFI. Very responsive and should only get better. The motor has a nice civilized tone due to the wide lobe center cam and Magna Flow exhaust. Plumbed and charged the AC this morning.Vinyl top and front and rear windows get installed this week. Were waiting on some trim pieces and will be installing front sheetmetal towards end of week.

very cool story and build great work

The story on this car is really similar to my 69FB. My grandfather bought my 69FB the day I was born and he has the same name as me. Luckly my mother bought the car from my grandfather and saved it. I now own the car and every year on my B day I get a present from DMV to pay the registration. The car still has the old license plate&frame for Mazzei dealer in Antioch Ca.

Great build. The history behind the car is awesome. I bought my '69 Firebird soon after I turned 15 years old and I have owned it for the past 29 years. The Bird is not just a car it is part of the family.
I like the color of the car. Keep us posted. Thanks. |

We got everything done and Tim picked up his car Saturday.Yesterday I got an Email saying that his face hurt from smiling so much! I think the car really achieved our goal of keeping the original look and theme. It drives and handles extremely well and the engine has a very broad torque band. The pictures I took don't do the color justice, but it is beutiful and compliments the wheels well.

That looks awesome, great job
