Favorite hi-perf sedans you've ever owned/driven?
Not a fan of all the electronics and 'nannies' that are on the new 4 door hi performance sedans. Curious on what are some of the good older models both domestic and foreign.
|
Any of the Ford Panthers (FCVPI, MGM, Town Car). Chevy Caprice/Imapala.
If you weren't afraid of a little technology, id say CTS-V is one of the best cars made. |
I drive a Saab 9-2x Aero which is a re-badged Subaru WRX wagon with a Saab front end. Stock it is a 230hp turbocharged 2.5 liter with all wheel drive. It is highly tunable yet fairly basic in comparison to a lot of modern cars with their active electronic everything. You can easily squeeze 350 all wheel hp out of this car and still drive your kids to school everyday.
The twin turbo Audi S4s are also very fun sedans but they can get a bit expensive in terms of maintenance. |
I dig the Mercury Marauders in black.
I wish I liked the CTS-V's looks. |

Tony,
Seriously, I guess its the angular styling of the CTS-V. For some reason I like something rounded at the free ends... obtuse like. lol http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...2557112791.jpg |
A little bit of an older car, but I still love the 94, 95, 96 Impala SS 4-doors. I went crazy when Chevy brought those back into production for those 3 years. I was a college kid and definately couldn't afford one.:( I would love to have a 96 and take the LT1 out and put in an LS7 and T56, big 15" Baer Brakes, 20x12 rear wheels, etc.

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0240_large.jpg Yahh I kinda like the 94-96 B-Bodys,, I have a slightly narrowed rearend that will be going in this one,Frame has been modified and will be minitubbed, "Future 20x12s wheels" (RUSHFORTH) with 345-25-20s" I did a engine conversion some time ago = 6.0 Lq4 with L92, L76 intake and Nitrous. 4l60e 3k stall.. Roger |
Very nice Roger. First LS conversion I've seen in those cars.
I remember someone saying of the late great B-bodies ... "Ya can't kill 'em" |

Never owned one, but I always liked the Audi A6 4.2. They had pretty decent performance for a luxury sedan, and they looked good with the 'wide-body'. They are an older design, but still appealing to me.
The version that would be my choice would be the RS6 Avant(wagon version). This is not my car, just an example of what I would like... These are 2003 models http://images.compucars.co.uk/104267...ol_1071947.jpg http://media2.worldcarfans.com/2004/...428.001.1M.jpg |
Skip, how about an E55 AMG? :D

I'm running a 2001 7 series bmw, it's quite agile for something weighing over 4000lb and almost silent at 120mph it's one of the few european cars you can fit 3x child seats in.
getting 21mpg even when driving like I'm on fire and managed 36mpg over a 200 mile motorway run. amazing value cars once they have high miles, considering it was Ģ60k new it was stupidly cheap 2nd hand and this one's still going strong @250k miles |
my wife's G35 sedan- light- rear wheel drive and a blast to drive stock

When AMG is not enough, better add 6.5L of Brabus.

BMW M5 - best hi-perf sedan ever!
Looking forward to the next generation with a V8 TT. Alex |
My favorite sedan to drive. Hmm.....
If I had no limitations , it would most definitely be the 2009+ Cadillac CTS-V IIRC That car is just HOT in every way. 2nd favorite is the Mercedez C63 which actually performs better then the CTS-V http://www.motortrend.com/av/roadtes...deo/index.html http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/res...es_c63_amg.jpg Quote:

I like Jeremy Clarkson's description of the AMG C63 in the vid below..."This is actually an ax murderer with headlights." AMG detuned the 6.2 to 451 hp in the C63, but that's has been rectified by the aftermarket. They get 445 rwhp with simple bolt on mods. :) In the same vid they also tested the Audi RS4 and the BMW M3 coupe in Spain at a great track. Very funny stuff with the Stig in part 2 testing all 3. First though he does a lap in Emerson Fittapaldi's F1 Lotus that won the world championship in '72. In a later episode of Top Gear after testing a M3 sedan and a Lexus 5.0 IS-F, Clarkson says the M3 does everything excellently. For him though the C63 was the most fun to drive... "It's not a car, its a complete animal!" "You don't really drive this car, you cling on for dear life!" |

My 94 SHO That is "ESS AYCH OH" not 'SHOW"
handled pretty well for a Taurus, looked good, comfortable on long roadies (so much so that I am going to find SHO seats for my Cougar) ran 15's all day. Won me a few rounds at Sears Point on Wednesday nights. Cool car. I used it up, and sold it with 185k on it. |
Skip, I never really looked at the C63 much, but that is a badass car! Looks like 08 is the first model year I saw which makes it a little on the spendier side. Like to see them at least a few years old for that early depreciation hit eh. :)

If you donīt need the size of an E-class Iīd highly recommend the C63! Alex |
Those C63 are no joke, it's like a V8 Honda Civic on roids, it's amazing how they were able to stuff that motor in tiny engine bay
