Anyone have a 2010 Ram 2500?
 

Anyone? I test drove an 09 1500 when my grandpa was going to get one and I loved it. I am considering picking up a new 2500 if I can get it cheap enough since I would like one to DD and tow all my projects. I actually didn't like the looks of the 2500's but after seeing this truck below I am sold. Exactly what I want mine to look like..

But I am curious what the mpg's are and what are people actually paying? Spring Dodge says 40% off, so if that's true I will get one when my SS Camaro sells. Just kinda scared at what the insurance and what not will be at my age.

with those rims and tires, you'd be looking at 11-14 highway on a good day. unless is Diesel.

Diesel for sure, I love the power they make plus they get nice gas mileage. My bro in laws 6spd dually would get mid 20's under perfect conditions. Once you start running into hills and traffic it will be like 20.

Honestly as long as it gets around 15mpg city I would be happy since that's what my Trans Am gets.

yeah i'd recommend Diesel. They make non smelly power now.

def pop for the extended warranty.

Trey, you should be able to average mid-teens with a diesel....but to be totally honest the Big Three have had a hell of a time getting great MPG in the last few years! From what I've heard all the guys with the newer trucks are more than pissed at the MPG's they are seeing as it doesn't come close to there 4+ year old trucks. IMHO, the best truck is a '06 GMC 2500 w/ a Dumamax/Allison. My father-in-law just bought a '08 Chevy 2500 diesel, he loves the power but isn't too impressed with the MPG's and it's a stock truck (no lift). Now my cousin has a '06 GMC with a tuner, 6" lift, and 35's and is back to 20 mpg on the open road (after the tuner) and still gets in the teens towing his 12k lbs race trailer...but remember that's the last year before the new emissions!

FWIW, I have a '07 Ram 2500 HEMI w/ a 5" lift and 35's...and I regeared to 4:56's since it's a gas motor. You wouldn't need to regear a diesel with the type of lift you are talking about. I used to get 16-17 mpg (highway) when the truck was stock and now I get 12-14 mpg...and 9-10 towing my 6k lb trailer. This will probably be my last gas truck. Even with all the new emissions the new diesel trucks do much better than what I am getting....I just couldn't afford the price increase at the time....hopefully I can in the future!

If you aren't going to be towing more than...6-7k often I would look into a GM 1500. They are a great truck and knock down 20 mpg no prob!

I have a 04 Dodge 3500 4x4 duly an have been tickled with the fuel mileage 120000 miles on it an we get 19 mpg running around town, an 21 on the highway if i can keep my foot out of it. I get about 12 mpg loaded with enclosed 8.5 x 24' trailer at 65 mph
I have a friend with a 2 wheel drive same year that gets 22 mpg around town.
A new truck is nice but i have head the same things as above most people are not very happy with them an the power is not as good ether.

I have 2005 Dodge Ram Daytona with the 5.7 litre Hemi and that thing is a pig on gas, especially when using the air conditioning or the 4 wheel drive!! I do love it, but the gas mileage isn't great.:faint:

Not to get into a Ford/GM/Dodge battle but if MPG is a primary concern, the 2011 Super Duty is said to be putting up some really impressive numbers for MPG.

That’s interesting Rob! My bro-in-law is an excavator and is die hard Ford for his work trucks as he tows a lot! He gets new trucks every couple years or so and swears that his Ford Diesels get worse mpg with every new truck. His favorite so far was his '04 F-350. Hopefully Ford has figured out their (and the others as well) mpg issues of recent years....did they say in that vid what mpg they were getting? Or just that they went longer distance than the other two? I may have missed it.

I have to say, the Ram HD is the best on the market. I'm not just saying that because I worked on it for the past 5 years, it really is. Best in class brakes, towing, etc. The 6.7 is awesome, I towed our 7500lb trailer with a 3.08 gear and it was like it was not even there.
And the biggest front bumper ever!

I had a '04.5 duramax and my average MPG was 22. with dodges history of transmission issues and fords issues with the diesel transmissions i would stick to anything with an allision.

I don't believe that because it's a Ford website. Unfortunately all the emissions crap is killing mpgs. A dpf delete on the 6.7's gain 3-5 mpg from what I have read.

But after seeing this video I don't ever believe anything a company says when it is about their product versus another.

I have an 08 with 40k miles on her. I took the DPF, Cat and EGR off at 10k miles. I get 19 - 20 mixed city/hwy, 16 - 17 on winter fuel, 10 - 13 towing depending on head wind (cruise set at 75mph+).

The 2010 is a little different cat, the Smarty and H&S boys are working on tuners for the 10.

I've had three Dodge diesel trucks, then bought an '08 Duramax. MPG sucked so badly in that truck (14 mpg avg) that I sold it and found a low mileage '06 Dodge which I still have. It averages 22 mpg (2wd dually crewcab). I really like the new Dodge trucks, but I know someone with a 4x4 dually crew and his only averages 14 mpg.

If you want gas mileage, stick with the 06 and older, pre-DPF years, of any brand.

Mark for what model year? I don't think you are talking about the 2011 models?

2011 Ford Super Duty w/6.7 Diesel = 390 horsepower and 735 pound-feet of torque. 6,520 pounds of payload / 24,400 pounds towing.

somehow I always feel some peoples MPG claims regarding diesel trucks to be full of BS.

I've recorded every drop of fuel i've run through my 2wd '04.5 5.9L quad cab dually, auto trans. i have a straight through muffler and I own a dog, so I don't have a cat. I have an Edge Juice with Attitude and leave it set on the milage setting 99% of the time during unloaded driving and set it in tow mode when towing.

Off the top of my head, the BEST full tank with mostly highway driving with no load was in the 16-17 mpg range. This was limiting speeds to under 70. I think my best mpg range is in the 60-65 area, a touch under 2000 rpm.

Around town with no load I get about 12 mpg. It's a lot of stop and go with lights. The surface street speed limit is 45 and thats at the cusp of lock up and OD.

I know the earlier trucks did a good bit better. The dual rear wheels probably knock off 1 mpg ? The auto maybe 1 mpg ? Either way, around town it does better than the '02 1500 Quad Cab short bed with a 5.9L gas engine I had. The gas truck did better on the highway by a little bit.



I forgot to add : if you are relying on the truck to tell you what MPG you are getting, it's probably wrong. And it can be by alot. I do the math myself.

My buddies with diesels always talk big talk about their mpg's, until you go on a trip with them and it's no better than a gas truck and they make up every excuse in the book to justify the 10K they spent extra on it. I laugh...and laugh. Must've been some crappy winter fuel. Too many additives. Had it in OD, didn't have it in OD. Big headwind. Too hot, too cold. You name it. They didn't have much to talk about when diesel was $5/gallon here a while back. Of course, I do live in MN, and I imagine the summer/winter blends do vary through the season as tanks get refilled at the stations, etc.

I get 14mpg all the time in my gas Silverado 1500 with a lift and tires....about the same as I've ever calculated with my buddies diesels. Their claims of 20+mpg suddenly go out the window when someone knows how to run a calculator. :_paranoid

I will say one thing. If I lived in the mountains it'd be a no brainer. I can barely keep up to my buddy's Dodge 3500 pulling a gooseneck with two rock crawlers, two quads, a generator, two dirt bikes, a full toolbox and auxiliary fuel tank through the mountains with the Heavy Chevy to the boards...unloaded. HAHA!

I've had a 04' GMC Duramax and loved that truck, BUT if you are planning on buying a new truck consider a few things.

1 -How much of the time will it be used as a tow vehicle/daily driver?
= if your not going to be towing with it 60-75% GAS is better.

2 -How many miles do you drive one way to work or will it be used as a contractor (work) truck
=as a daily driver you need to put more miles on/ longer run times because DIESELS LIKE HEAT!

3 -How long do you plan to keep it years/miles?
= consider the amount you pay extra for the diesel engine/trans combo vs. a gas 3/4 / 1 ton? at least $10,000, you can buy alot of gas for that.

4 -Are you buying it just because you and your friends think diesels are cool?
= Yep they are awesome if you plan on using it as a truck, and pull and haul alot, but if you want to save some money up front and over the long haul, I'd buy a gas engine all day long.

Not really sure how much I am going to be using it. Once my SS Camaro sells I will have about $17,000 so I still need to do some more hustling before I have enough money to really start getting into the car business. Honestly I just love diesels and they look kick ass, they also hold their value a LOT better than gas trucks.

I am an attention whore, hell we all are. Take a look at what we all drive haha, so of course a big ass diesel truck is a must. I just love the effortless towing of them, my friend has an F150 we used to tow my 73' Camaro home and it didn't really like us too much. I would be using it a little bit for work also towing dead cars around the parking lot along with driving all over Texas for project cars.

But I still have a little while to think about it since I don't have enough to pay cash, which is the only way I will get one. No debt EVER for me, has worked great so far so that's the only way I want to live.

That $10,000 (more like $8K) difference is also recovered when it comes time to sell the truck. Diesels definitely sell for quite a bit more than equal gasser trucks.

What is a gasser worth at 100,000 miles? How about a diesel? BIG price difference once you get miles on them.

Something to consider.

I have a 2010 3500 I like it. Great truck, love it, drives better then my last Dodge and previous Fords. All chipped up, tore of all the enviroment crap, new air intake and exhaust. MPG what's that...it's a big truck?

Thank you!!! I hear a bunch of claims about getting 20+ MPG, but the funny thing is, it's always on the internet. I know lots of people who own diesels - Ford, Chev, Dodge - and nobody even comes close to 20MPG. My '97 Powerstroke gets 17.5 at best when unloaded.
